Great beer, color was amber with good head. Aftertaste was pleasant, with a hint of hops. Smell was little hoppy but not over bearing. Nice conversation beer, very pleasing beer. also beer was served in a good atmosphere at brewery. very happy with beer and brewery. Nice collection of bobble heads. Overall great beer and you need to try it at the brewery.

First had: on tap at Nodding Head, Philly, PA
Didn't really care for this. Pretty bland. Looked okay on the pour: slightly hazy copper-amber color, with a small off-white head. Dark sugars on the aroma and slightly phenolic. Sickeningly sweet to the taste, malty, caramel, medicinal quality...kind of unpleasant. Light-medium mouthfeel, and a bit watery and lacking in flavor, especially for a Scotch ale. Not very exemplary of the style--missing that alcohol kick, and flavor in general--and not very drinkable.

Served in a standard pint glass. Deep red with slightly brown hints. Very little head that was a bit fizzy -- plenty of carbonation, it just didn't form a head.
Smell was nice and malty, plenty of caramel sweetness, maybe a hint of plums, too. No real hops in the aroma
Taste was nice at first with the malt and caramel hitting you first followed by some bitterness to balance it out. However, it finished with a metallic aftertaste that I did not enjoy.
I found the mouthfeel to be overcarbonated. This is normally a low carbed beer. Too much; it distracted from the malty richness. I didn't really want another after the first.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep clear amber with a small white head. Aroma of generic sweet malt, maybe some cinnamon? Flavor of sweet malt and sweetness. Do I have to keep repeating myself...Nodding Head beers are TOO sweet and this is no exception. Meh.

I'm picking up a common house flavor in this beer after having the blonde ale and getting the same background taste. It's a sort of grassy, herbal funk. It was light and added character to the blonde ale, but it's a little much in here and it make the aroma offensive. The flavor and aroma come off extra bready with a little rubber in the aroma. The flavor also has a mellow, malty backbone with spice and earthy notes.

Pours a clear darker reddish brown. Leafy nose. Flavor is even and smooth. Some wood and caramely/wood syrup characteristics kicking in there. Feel is about average. Okay drinkability. No great shakes here. There are a lot greater examples out there, but it's still a good stab at the style, though.

Light copper-colored with thick off-white head, clear. Head retention is OK, no lacing, and gone by the end of the pint.
Slight malt aroma, not much more. Not unpleasant, not nice - just average. The aroma is very slight.
Taste is slightly malty sweet with hint of caramel, finished by a slight hop bitterness.
The beer is thin and light. It would be easy to drink, if it had a bit more flavor.
Generally, nothing special. The aroma and flavor is all a bit light for my taste, certainly more than a typical Macro, but not what I am looking for in a craft beer.

Tasted on-tap 10/09/06 at Nodding Head Brewpub in Philadelphia, PA.
Nice light brown color with a low beige head. An easy drinking lighter Scottish Ale with a nice toasty malt character without being sweet in any way. Light-medium bodied, smooth, and very approachable.
One of few malt-centric beers that I've had recently that are simply delicious to try after being hit over the head with hops for so long.. worth a shot !

Served as a medium copper colored beer with slightly off-whiten puffy head.
Smell is light with some notes of caramel present.
Taste is a bit on the sweet side, but only slightly. Some caramel and roasted malt also present.
Finishes is a bit thin, with a quickly disappearing taste sensation.
An OK beer. Easy drinker, but nothing special.

Clear, light brown and topped by a thin, light tan head. The head retention was decent, no stickage at all. Not much aroma, just a bit of malt. More caramel in the flavour with a hint of toffee towards the end. Bitterness was quite low. Light bodied served with moderate carbonation. Fairly smooth texture, but with a slight bite from the CO2. Easily drinkable, but it didn't hold my interest.

Had this one on tap at Nodding Head for Sunday brunch a week back. The beer was served in a pint glass with an off white minimal head. The body was a deep brown color but pure. The aroma is of caramel and a bit toasty, some notes of chocolate. The taste is pleasing with more caramel and hints of chocolate running through your mouth but the sweetness is not overpowering which makes for a pretty drinkable beer.

Another brew that I tried while in Philly for a bachelor party for Sulldaddy this past weekend.
Presented in a pint glass from a tap, it pours a ruby color with 1 cm of creamy white head that dissipates slowly to a nice fine white edge layer.
Aroma is of lots of plums and caramel malts along with some wheat grains. Nothing spectacular and a bit sweet on the nose.
Sipping was much better. Decent basic scottish ale flavors up front with lots of caramel flavors that back up a very nice, smooth body. Carbonation was a tad bitey, but it quickly went away allowing the smoothness to come through on through the swallow.
Nothing flashy about this brew. Just a nice, well done basic ale. This would also make a nice session brew.

This was my second beer with dinner on a visit to the pub.
The beer arrives in a pint glass with only a thin edge layer of beige head. The color is a clear rich mahogany and looks nice.
Aroma is sweet and with caramel and toffee and a hint of choc
First sip reveals a fairly thick body with a bit of a syrupy texture with mild and spacious carbonation.
Flavor is sweet as the nose advertised with caramel and toffee and brown sugar from start to finish. The beer is super smooth and easy to drink.
Not very complex but well made a tasty. A good beer for maltys, hopheads should look elsewhere.

Light brown body and a sour watery nose. Taste feels like an amber, mild and watery with an occasional grain of toffee malts. Shallow light body. Uninteresting.
Definitely a light scottish ale. The bartender described it to me as an ale "anyone can drink", which is probably true I thought.

Dark ruby red color with a tiny white head that doesn't hold very well. It's hard to smell anything in Nodding Head, but I'm not picking anything up here, just a tiny bit of malt. The flavor is dry and roasted malt, but it's not quite in place for a red. Not quite dry enough, not quite malty enough to be any good. You can drink it, but I still haven't found a Nodding Head brew I love. This is just sort of a boring beer, and I can't see how it won a silver medal at the GABF.

The body is a clear, dark copper brown, but there is little head. The aroma is quite weak. The flavor is lifeless and short with a watery finish. My wife even commented on the quick and watery flavor. A scottish ale needs more body and a fully flavor than this.

A silver medal winner at the GABF 2003 as a scottish amber.
The beer was bronze in color with a thin head that quickly reduced to spotty residue on the surface of the beer. At least some lacing developed through the drink. The aroma was tough to pull out, only some malt was barley noticeable. The flavor was a dull malt and caramel flavor with barely any bittering to balance out the flavor. Hints of the scottish bite was there, but not enough to make me happy.
The mouthfeel was thin, and there was a slightly dry finish. Definitely drinkable as this is light with some average flavor and could be a session beer if your tastebuds want something lighter in flavor.

Poured a light brown color, like a watered-down caramel color, that moved to golden edges. It had barely a head and sometimes left lace and stain. Smelled of maris otter malt, sweet and lightly of caramel scents, though altogether a pretty weak one for the nose. Tasted of an easy malty sweetness, a real quality scottish maris otter type, brown and succulent though quite thin in profile. Had a tiny hop tinge to help the balance.
A very thin mouthfeel, extremely watery, this is a nice light beer with just enough sweetness to keep it from being brown water, and a high-quality malt sweetness that. A nice beer to calm a spicy mouth down or to recover from a dry and hoppy beer.

Served on cask in a straight sided pint glass
Pours a dark ambercopper color, with a thin white head
The nose is malty, a bit dry with a hint of spice, some sweetness in there too. I am excited
A bit malt, sweet without being too sweet, caramel and a bit of hop too
Sessionable, no hint of alcohol, just a refreshing beer
enjoyable - one to sit on all day
