Served in a standard pint glass. Rich creamy nitro head. Jet black color. A nearly perfect looking standard stout.

Smell was a bit bland. A hint of roast in the smell but not a lot going of aroma-wise.

Taste was nice. Some chocolate and roasted barley. Just a little hop bitterness. Malt was there but not overly strong. Nice standard strength stout.

Mouthfeel was nice a rich, slightly thick and slick. Nicely low in carbonation. Nice beer that was easy to drink. A beer I'd enjoy drinking again

On tap at Nodding Head on 8/6/08.

A - Black with dark chestnut highlights (barely) and almost one finger of creamy tan head that receded into a thin ring of retention and left no lacing.

S - Dark roasted malt and a bit of chocolate, but the aroma is lacking overall. I was expecting more coffee and some more apparent malty and bitter notes.

T - Mild coffee aspect with chocolate and roasted malt goodness. There's a touch of hop bitterness, but this oatmeal stout is on the sweeter side of the spectrum.

M - Medium bodied stout with creamy texture and mild prickly carbonation on the palate. Pretty nice, round mouthfeel. Finish is just a tad dry and only minimally bitter.

D - Easy-drinking oatmeal stout with a low ABV. Aroma could be beefed up a bit, but it's still quite flavorful. Pretty solid brew from Nodding Head.

A pint glass served at the brewpub in center city Philly.

A: The oaty is a dark, oily-looking stout, quite dark with a blackness that envelops all light around it. A tan head of nearly 1/2 a finger slowly recedes but coats the top of the glass.

S: The nose is roasted malts, sweetened up by the oatmeal with just a touch of coffee bitterness.

T: The stout is a nice sweet one. The oatmeal is pronounced, as it a slight lactic milk flavor. The result of those two flavors is a pretty darn good breakfast stout. The stout body is not overly roasted, it adds only touches of char into the sweetness of the oats. A good quaffing stout with a low alcohol level.

M: The oatmeal with a touch of lactose is very inviting, sweet with a dark chocolatey uundertone. A good early morning stout.

D: The alcohol level is dangerously low, I wanna say in the 5% ballpark. It is good enough to keep you coming back for more.

Appearance: Arrives at the bar with a pitch black color and and billowy head that really sticks and coats the sides of the pint glass with foam

Smell: Strong roasty aroma with an underlying cafe au lait element

Taste: Moderate cafe au lait with underlying brown bread tones up front; after the swallow, there is a slight hint of caramel

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body and somewhat creamy; moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Easy to drink but lacks a bit of flavor on the finish

Thick, viscous black with ruby highlights and a half inch thick tan head. Roasty, toffee aroma. Flavor was much more "oatmeal" than any other oatmeal stout I've tasted. Does this make it true to the style? I dont know. A little different from the classic Oatmeal Stouts (Sam Smith, Young's, etc) in that it was a tad sweeter and you could really taste the oatmeal. More liquid breakfast than any other beer I've had. Notes of milk chocolate and toffee to balance as well. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy; one that I could drink a few of. An interesting take on the style.
