A special beer brewed to honor beer writer and historian Dale Van Wieren on his impressive accomplishment upon reviewing and notating 10,000 different beers. This creation was lovingly created by Sly Fox brewmaster Brian O'Reilly dubbed as an Amber Pils / Dubbel / Bier de Garde hybrid.
Enjoyed on tap at the Sly Fox Phoenixville location.
A-Dark, reddish golden tinted copper with the thinest of off-white rings that left behind no lace what so ever.
S-Light apple and pear fruit up front with a touch of spice and mild malt sweetness.
T-Sweet fruit notes up front with a light touch of spiciness in support. Malt sweetness is mild and barely noticeable. A subtle touch of alcohol heat tickles the palate upon warming. Tasty and all of the parts work well together.
M-Medium bodied, sharp and biting with an initial sweetness that moves into a surprisingly dry finish.
D-Good overall. At first I found it to be a touch too sweet but the spiciness and dryness build and balances things out in the finish. A nicely done beer that I am sure Dale will be proud of!

Interesting beer labled as a Amber Pils / Dubbel / Bier de Garde hybrid...
Pours a ambery, light brown color, decent froth of head, minimal retention & lacing. Smell is of belgian yeast, earth, grainy whole wheat bread, nice layers of spices and dark fruit. Background notes of faint citrus. Taste follows scent... very interesteing blend of ingredients thats quite all over the map. One thing i noted was the fig newtonish quality - sweet, chewy, bready with underlying hints of dark fruit & spice but with Belgian yeast tastes all throughout. Medium bodied, adequate carbonation. Interesting beer, but not necessarily stellar in any area.

Sampled at the Phoenixville location - reviewing from notes.
A: Pour is a deep amber brown with a thin head.
S: Malty, dark fruit with a slight smokiness to it.
T: Much like the nose - dark fruit and a touch of smokiness.
D: Pretty decent brew - happy to have tried it..

Found this on draft at Capones near Philly. First of all. Capones is the real deal for anyone that likes Craft Beer. Didn't find this in Sly Fox's offerings here at BA so here's a new beer add:
A: Very dark brown - little to no head apparent. No lacing. Unfortunately, I'm not a huge Belgian guy so I apologize if I don't do this beer justice as it was quite good.
S: Belgian spices along with some dark fruit as well as some very faint malt. Very good.
T: Picked up cherries, spices, malt, raisins, other dark fruit, and some more malt. Great taste
M: Very mild and low carbonation. Smooth
D: Wow, this was a fantastic offering from Slyfox and it was my first from them. I'm taking along the Route 113 IPA in my luggage and am looking forward to that brew as well.
