Stopped into Sly Fox for lunch on 03JUN11 during a break in the action at the Reading WWII Weekend. Since there were a number of tempting options on the menu here, I opted to go with 10oz servings to maximize my pleasure. I chose to lead-off with a Helles Bock for $3.75.

The slim flute was filled with a clear, medium golden brew. Slow carbo rose within, and a creamy, smooth, white head topped things off. Head lasted well, and the lacework was very nice. This sucka was quite smooth, and the body was a good medium. Aroma was mild, yet bready, with some floral hops showing up.

As for the flavor, bready, crackery malts are first evident, lending a light sweetness to the proceedings. Floral hops then show up, with light fruitiness tagging along. A bit more bitter than it should be, for me anyhow. Still a flavorful offering, though.

Prosit!!

A: Bright Golden with a two finger head and pleanty of lace.

S: Fresh grains and sweet malt aromas.

T: Sweet malts, grains, and a hint of alcohol. All of the flavors meld well together.

M: Medium bodied with a crisp, dry finish.

D: A bit sweet but a good take on the style. It is something I don't mind having a few of.

Poured a clear deep gold with a finger and a half high white head. Minimal lacing but good head retention.

Malty and floral with some honey on the nose

Sweet and malty, a nice hop bite, the bitterness is a nice balance to the sweet malts. Medium bodied, medium carbonation.

A solid and well crafted beer.

Clear, deep gold with a thin cap of white foam. Minimal lacing and decent retention. It had a pleasant maltiness with some floral noble hops. Mild (yet solid) bitterness with plenty of pils malt sweetness up front. Slightly toasted with floral hops throughout. Off-dry with a bit of alcohol warmth, medium body and carbonation. This reminded me a bit of some stronger euro-lagers, only with a rich malty backbone rather than a thin sweetness. Maybe even like a stronger, maltier helles lager. Either way -- tasty!
