Poured a darker color than I'm used to for a Hefe, deep golden orange with a head that was gone quickly. No lacing. Smell was good with good dose of bananas and clove. Taste was very banana like with a sliver of sourness. THe feel was a little thicker than most hefe's I've had. Decent carbonation and overall a nice beer but not my favorite hefe in the world. Worth trying especially on a nice warm summer day.

Very phenolic aroma with a nice spiciness. Seems more
Belgian than German. Slight banana. Fresh and nice.
Head is moderate and white, but really quite short-lived. Cloudy gold and a heavy look to the drink.
Boy this drink a lot more like a wit than a hefeweizen. Dry, spicy, malty character as well as wheat. Phenolic in flavor too. Strong yeast qualities.
Rather heavy mouthfeel combined with full, picky carbonation that provides a fullness.
I like this, but there are two things. First, the dryness is too heavy at times (not throughout the whole drink). Second, this is not a hefe. Beyond that, tasty and flavorful. Interesting mix of summer flavors with winter feel to the drink. Bell's has done a winter wit and this kinda' fits in that category.
This is scored on whether or not I like it and less on style issues.

A- it pours a pretty dark wheaty color with a good amount of head
S- like wheat, lemon , citrus, and carbonation

T- like it smells, a little heavier that a wibier , it doesnt have that banana smell which I am not crazy about anyway

M- Pretty smooth, a good amount of head

D- very good I dug it , a great anyday session beer , esp to go with dinner and a nice refreshing beer on a hot day

and the can is nice for when you go places in which glass is not allowed

Recieved as an "extra" from BRDC. I was pleased, as Sly Fox does not distribute here in CO.

Pours a dark shade of "orange juice" with about the same transparency. Head is pure white and the beer is obviously heavily carbonated. Think pilsner-style carbonation.

Smells spicy with maybe a hint of lemon. Very classic wheat-beer. Lacks the banana/clove aroma of a german hefe though.

Taste falls somewhere between a hefe and a wheat, with maybe a pils influence somewhere. It's an interesting combo. However, once past the novelty factor, it's rather basic and uninspiring. Typical spice and wheat malt flavor. Hops are mostly forgotten. Hint of fruitiness at the end.

Mouthfeel is great. Very grainy and very gelatinous. Heavy without being obnoxious. Everything I could want from a beer like this.

This would be a very drinkable beer, especially on a warm summer day. It's rather refreshing, I would say.

I'm glad I got to try this- one of my more favorite wheat-style beers for sure.

This beer poured a cloudy copper with a single-finger head that didn't last very long. The smell is your fairly baseline wheat with some banana and spices. The taste is pretty close to the smell with some sweet citrus up front that gives way to some fruity banana in the middle and spices in the finish. The mouthfeel is pretty satisfying with a good thickness for a wheat beer and a basic amount of carbonation. This may be a little less drinkable than some wheat beers, but I think it makes up for it with some very nice fruitiness and spices.

Pours a very nice cloudy golden yellow color, nice carbonation, nice one-finger plus white head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, grassy, with some spices. The taste is malty/yeasty, with some grassy tones, and some spices. Medium body. Drinkable, a tasty brew.

12 oz can into a Weizen glass.

Pours a cloudy orange gold with a few fingers of foamy off-white head. Fizzles down pretty quickly into a thin, sturdy retention that leaves some good spotty lacing behind. The aroma is a mix of bread & wheat, some earthy hops, lemon grass, a bit of clove, and yeast.

The taste matches the aroma with some bready sweetness and wheat notes, yeast, spicy clove, a splash of lemon zest, and finally, a nice dry hop bitterness in the backend. The mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with a crisp yet easy carbonation that goes down very well.

A nice American take on the German style Hefe, this is perfect to quaff on a hot summer day. Coming in a can for easy mobility is also a plus!

Can poured into a pint glass produced two fingers worth of head on a cloudy orange body. The white head quickly turned to a thick lace that topped the glass

Aromas of bananas and bubble gum filled my nose

Flavors of wheat and spices filled my mouth a real nice pepper finish to this one. Light boded with good carbonation

A good American Hefe another great summer beer

A-Hazy orange-yellow with a medium white head and a huge amount of CO2 bubbles....cool. Head left spotty lace.

S-Somewhat spicey with a fair amount of wheat malt aroma. In addition a bitof lemon zest.

T-Much as in the aroma....all flavours present but light.

M-Light bodied and crisp.Did border on thin.

D-Not a true German hefe....more like an American/German hybrid. Not bad but I like more clove and banana in my hefe...good "bridge"beer to lure folks from the "other side". I don't dislike it, but for a light summer drinker give me a Pikeland Pils any day.

Barvarian wheat beer with hersbrucker hops.

A: Poured a beautiful golden-orange that was cloudy by nature and was topped off by a bright white fluffy head that held up nicely leaving a moderate trail lacing.

S: The nose yielded a strong sense of wheat, bananas, cloves and some light bubblegum hints all combining for a very nice aromatic experience.

T: sweet and spicy with lemony wheat, bananas, pineapples, and zesty dry oranges. There was some spicy citrus notes along with a light breadiness and good yeasty attributes.

M: light, creamy leaving a nice slick coating on the tongue of wheat and citrus all brought on by a crisp carbonation.

D: Overall a very nice spicy and sweet drinking weiss that you don't want to put down, very refreshing wit a nice lemony tang. Could drink this all night.

in can 8-16-10.

A: A cloudy nectarine orange pour produces a foamy and patchy headwork. Some sloppy patches are left for a lacing. Nice coloring but not much else to go on.

S: Bananas and wheat are dominant on the nose with a zesty orange zing with a light to medium delivery and a bit of fruitiness (whole oranges and nectarines).

T: A nice mixture of semi-dry oranges and wheat for the flavor. A zesty zing of hoppiness intertwines but still allows the fine german pilsner malts to be highlighted. Some signs of carbonation but not much but enough to deliver some crispness to be recognized.

M: Medium bodied with some bubbliness and creamy wheat feel on the tongue.

D: Good drinkability. Another warm weather quencher that goes down with little hindrance. Fairly crisp on the swallow, six-pack worthy and relaxing to kick back with.

From a SLY FOX variety case.Drank from a Erdinger glass.

Typical Hefe appearence.Cloudy yellow with a small white head that fell pretty fast.Leaves no lacing.

The beer smells very fresh,notes of clove,citrus,cant smell the bubble gum.I also smell yeast.

The taste is spicy(peppery),yeasty,its sweet upfront and then leads to a spicy finish.

Mouthful is alright,carbonated,spicy and easy going down.

Not a bad hefe for the price but I dont think it can contend with the big guys from germany.I would buy it again though.

Bright blue and gold 12 oz. can that has a picture of a gold crown with barley stocks coming out of the ends. The side of the can list the ingredients and 3 of the beer's specifications, 13.5 Plato, 11 IBU, and 5.6% ABV. Not date stamped anywhere on the can.

When poured into Weizen glass, this Sly Fox is a hazy golden lemon yellow with the usual Hefe tall fluffy head of white foam. It had really good retention that left behind another tall head of white foam and spots of white lace. Also, I couldn't help but notice that I've never seen a Hefe before that contained a tornado of carbonation bubbles swirling in the beer itself. The aroma loved the orange peel. That was mostly the aroma with malted wheat and a touch of spicy citrus hops. While the orange peel was king in the aroma, the spicy hops ruled over this kingdom. Behind these dried spicy hops were malted wheat, a touch of orange peel, and a hint of juicy fruits at the end. The mouthfeel was light like a good Hefe should be, but this one had a faint aftertaste of malted wheat and dried spicy hops. A very unique Hefeweizen. Not only does it come in a can, but this Hefe loved the orange peel and spicy hops.

I must say that this is my first "craft brew in a can." I was very impressed and I look forward to tasting more of this good beer in a can stuff....

A- Bright cloudy orange color with a HUGE hilly head.

S- Smell was of spices and wheat with a suttle fruit hint to it, possibly a juicy apple.

T- Peppery spices (cloves?), wheat, lemon zest, hoppy fruit finish.

M- Light bodied but exactly what I am looking for in a hefe. Thirst quenching and desirable.

D- I could easily drink this one all night long. Bring on the summer!

A: Hazy golden orange with three fingers of white head. It had good hed retention and OK lacing.

S: Cloves and banana dominate but plenty of citrus notes (mainly lemon zest) as well.

T: Orange and lemon immediately jump out, then the banana and clove and then a light hop bitterness on the tongue.

M: Very clean and dry but a tad thinner than expected.

D: This was a beer that quenched my first hot day of the year thirst. It was true to style with just a bit of hop kick and was all banana and clove and not any creamed corn/huskiness.

Another of Suzanne's "gifts". Hey, if anything comes of this, you lie that I took them when you weren't looking and I'll swear to it. I have a track record of doing that and I am still blamed, in some circles, for Heavyweight's demise.

Wow, what a huge, rocky, bone-white head. Two fingers' worth, no less. Big, yeasty nose with a bubble gum scent. The color was a cloudy lemon-yellow. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full with a lot of sweet fruitiness on the tongue. It was like Juicyfruit gum - banana (mostly), some lemon zest, much too fruity for the likes of yours truly. The finish had a slight black pepper/clove spiciness, but it was too muted to pull me back from the edge. I simply do not like hefeweizens. Sorry.

Poured into weizen glass:

Pours clouded yellow with a large head that slowly descends to a one-finger rocky head that stays around as a lasting cover.

The smell is of whiffs of banana with a sharp clove spiciness.

The taste is of banana/clove and some sweet bubblegum. A metallic tinge is there, possibly from sitting in the can. Sweet, tropical fruity, finish.

Light and crisp body. Refreshing. A nice HW.

Pours a very clouded orange amber with a nice off-white head. Nose is a heavy yeast. Kind of an earthy tar tone to it. Flavor is earthy yeast and very strong at that. Robust. Thick. Deep. Feel is thick on liquid and nice on the carbonation. Overall I have to say this is a pretty tasty brew. Hearty and deep, but definitely worth trying. Especially with all this craft brew in the can stuff going on.

Appearance: Pours from a can a golden orange color with a frothy white head and moderate lace.

Smell: Wheat and yeast along with a light dash of lemon and cloves grace the nose.

Taste: This beer is built more for easy drinking than for deep contemplation. It has a light touch of dry wheat, lemon banana phenols and zesty spices.

Mouthfeel: Lively yet light and refreshing.

Drinkability: I think good craft beer in cans is a great convenience. A winner at parties this summer. It is a beer that we can all agree on (macro drinking friends and myself). very approachable and sessionable.

Sample at Firewaters in Atlantic City. This beer is a murky yellow/gold color with a medium thin and fizzy white head. The head burns away steadily and there are sheets of lacing. Wheaty aroma that has notes of banana and spice. Medium, smooth body with wheat, fruit and spice flavors. The finish is on the dry side and is bitter at first with a clove aftertaste. Above average all around.

A – Poured a nice pale golden yellow, lots of visible carbonation flying upto the top from the bottom of the glass. A nice large two inch plus head formed initially but then reluctantly settled back down to earth and left just a thin glaze of lace across the top.



S – Lots of grain, wheat with a touch of a light apple yeast to it. Maybe a hop in the back, but nothing really the discernable.



T – Very nice weiss indeed. Had a very light, corn, grain, wheat flavor, just about what you would have expected from it. But had a nice little hoppiness in there which is much different then most of your strictly german weiss. This was really a nice added bonus and made this that much tastier.



M – Super crisp and clear. Great carbonation kept going until the very bitter end. Had a good consisitency and really a nice refreshing quality to it.



D – About as good as it gets. This is perfect for a warm afternoon, you can really have a bunch and not really fill up so quickly. Just perfect one for the game or mowing the lawn, really nice.



Overall this was a great little surprise in a can, and just keeps the ball rolling on my canned goodness. I have yet to find a bad canned brew, they all come out tasting very fresh and just seem to have a better and more consistent carbonation then a bottle. I really enjoyed this one and would look forward to more slyfox in the future.

This one took some time to pour. Even when gentle the foam wants to take over the world. When it finally did recede it left clumps of foam on the glass with a thin white head sitting atop hazy gold fluid.
One whiff tells you that this is a hefe weizen. Definite banana esters, a bit of allspice, some nutmeg... smells pretty good. Definitely within traditional style parameters.
Flavors are traditional and typical, if a little weak. Mouthfeel is too thin. It seems like all of the carbonation was spent in that initial burst of foam. Nothing really to complain about here. There are better hefe's out there but if you need one in can form this is a good option. Personally, I prefer Butternut's Heinnieweisse, but this guy might be easier to find for some.

Presentation--can from Sly Fox brought to MN from my sister served in a pint glass.

A- orange yellow beer with a definate haze to it, and a white head popped up over the top of the glass in spite of a careful pour. Even started coming out of the car upon opening. Head feel quickly to near nothing.

S- very clean spice smell, clove and bananas, though more spice than fruit. Pleasant and spot on.

T- distinct carb bite on the front, and the fruity malt taste settles in and end with a light spice on the way down.

M-medium and lingers in the mouth.

D-easy but the carb in feeling and makes it self conscious.


Overall--the best of the three Sly Fox cans I've had tonight. A very good hefe that matches the style and can be enjoyed as such. I'll pour it in a more appropriate glass to concentrate the nose next time and make for an enhanced experience.

Poured into a weizen glass a hazed peachy-like color a large frothy white head atop leaving a trace amount of lace behind,big bold aromas for the style in my mind clovey and smokey with a real lemony burst quite nice and again in your face.Full flavors like the nose toasty and wheaty with big clove notes and phenolic smoke the lemon stays underlying in form but its presence is always there.A very solid full flavored weizen I had this in the past at the Phoenixville location,quite nice.

Picked up at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, Sly Fox is always pretty decent!

Pours from the 12 oz can, cloudy amber/golden, thin white head forms, settles down fast into a thin layer, tons of lace. Smell is sweet, lots of banana, lots of clove, yeast, bread, pretty standard weissbier. Taste is thin, bread, touch of banana and spice, citrusy weak finish, slightly sour. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation, easy to drink but pretty mediocre weissbier.
