Second time with this beer: Same experience. No carbonation but tasty like a wine or liquor.
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a touch of ruby to the hue and very very little collar around the edge even after a hard pour there was little head that dissipates right away.
Smell: Dark fruits and warm alcohol. Plum prune raisin cherry and brown sugar in the nose.
Taste: Like the nose it is dominantly sweet and warm. It seems reminiscent of the wheat wine I had the other night the warm green grape and sweet wheat attribute but the cherry and fig attribute are there as well with some sherry.
Mouthfeel: Very viscous and yet slick smooth edges due to the fact that there is no carbonation.
Drinkability: It is a *sweet* nightcap beer. I was happy to be sharing one bottle.
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!

On tap at Barcade, Brooklyn NY
A - Pours dark brown with really no head at all. Lacing is in faint rings on the glass.
S - Smells of dried sherry, fresh raspberries & cherries, and candy sugar. While initially this had a great aroma I found it tedious the longer I held the glass.
T - Too sweet for the style, and really reminded me of trying to drink a dessert wine. Very sweet from sugary fruit. Tastes of red grapes, and finishes with a slight acidic burn. Just not my thing.
M - Complexity is there but maybe it could have been less sweet and more blanced with subtle malt and a little more caramel or some other sugary flavor that wasn't from fruit. Felt a bit tedious and while I didn't drainpour it I barely finished the glass.
O - Not my choice for a quad. Give Sly Fox credit for the attampt but i'll pass.

Picked up an old bottle of this for 6 bucks at the local House of 1,000 beers.
A - Head is nice on this one yet just a 1/4 inch which is not very sticky. Color is a deep chestnut brown almost to the point of pitch black but clear at the base.
S - Getting some great sugar plums and cherries in the smell. By far the sweetest smelling quad I ever got.
T - Well the cherries kind of come off artificial and with the alcohol remind me somewhat of cough syrup. Still it's easy to drink with some average dark fruits and candied sugar tastes.
M - Really fizzy much lighter than I expected for the style. Makes for an easy drinking beer it just feels weird for a quad.
Overall worth the 6 bucks I paid but not worth a revisit at around 9-10 bucks. I would rather pick up a St Bernard for the same price. Also the fake cherry taste is kind of off putting.

A-a dark toffee brown with ruby highlights and two fingers worth of creamy head
S-malts, caramel, plums, and a bit of alcohol. The smell picks up a bit throughout the beer.
T-sticky malt, raisins and plums, caramel, and spicy alcohol
M-medium body, light to medium carbonation, leaves a sweet spicy aftertaste
Overall I think the strong alcohol helps this beer a lot since there is really not much carbonation at all. It is a very sweet beer which might turn people off. I like it, probably won't try it again though.

2010 vintage.
Dark mahogany with an ever active head of dense sandy colored foam that just keeps growing.
Massive fruit notes with malty sweetness and bubblegum. Layer after layer of complex fruit scents.
Huge sweetness up front with dark fruits such as plum, raisin, date, red grape and fig. Warm alcohol, woody/oaky spice, toffee, caramelized sugar and toasted walnuts. So very complex and deliciously drinkable at the same time.
The carbonation is big and pretty soft, but a touch fizzy. The body is a touch light for the style and the finish is extremely dry.
Great quad here. This is an awesome american made example of the style. This is up there with the top ones straight out of Belgium for me.

750 mL bottle, corked and caged. no date, but bought recently, it should be fairly fresh.
appears chestnut brown with amber highlights. little head. sweet malty aroma - caramel, raisins, it's rich. taste is similar - complex malt flavors. brown sugar, dark fruit. slight Belgian style yeast. smooth mouthfeel, medium thickness, low carbonation.
overall - a nice Quad, especially for an American version.

Pours a dark red tinted brown, cloudy with thick khaki head, good retention, some stickiness to the beer and lacing. Scent brings a potent mix of dark fried fruits - raisins, dates, prunes - and backs it up with candied sugar, brown sugar, light light molasses, faint herbal quality. Taste tones the nose down a bit, still strong in the fruit front, backing off on the sweetness a bit, slightly lacking in the yeast department for the style. Medium bodied, smooth, creamy, touch of earthiness. Not as subtle and complex as world class quads, but still very nice with some bold notes.
