A curious place, actually located in the middle of a mall. It's a bar/beer store/regular German store. I have never heard of or seen this before. Located on the first floor in the C section near Sears. Located in a mall, so you know the parking is good (unless the mall is very busy).
There is a bar in the front and back, along a very narrow suite. On the way back you pass various shelves with beer bottles and other knick knack items. The back area also has some tables. There are games on the bar, along with beer swag and posters. There is also a Sam Adams Utopias bottle sitting on the bar where I was seated, next to a "beer choosing" guide. I didn't inquire whether they had any or not. It's out of my price range anyway.
The selection is good. I don't know how well it stacks up against other bars, but there are over 15 taps along with some cask selections. Unfortunately they don't have a beer list, except one that's on a whiteboard on the wall.
The food is strictly German with a wide variety of entrees. It's all at a reasonable price as well.
Probably one of the better places in the northeast Tampa area. Recommended.

A old world German bier haus. Very cluttered...
Q good beer, good food
S service is mediocre... They don't know what's in bottles and the draft list is never up to date
S a lot of beer, but they don't know what they have...
F good food. Authentic German.
V not too costly. A fair price.
The place is ok. But what a pain in the ass. It's so cluttered I feel like I'm in my grandmothers front room with all the nickknacks... The beer is in no order, the coolers are a mess. The paper draft list is never right...

I started going to Dunder's when I was in college at the nearby USF and have been hooked since. They have an amazing restaurant with decorations that tend to lend itself to the eclectic. Their beer list always has something I haven't had before (which is getting harder and harder to find!). Their beers are all reasonably priced for the quality and are quick with the samples. The bottle room is a little on the pricey side if you are going to drink it in house but the 15% off to go makes it well within reason. Another note on the bottle room, it is some what organized lending the determined shopper to find hidden gems (a six pack of '07 barleycorn last time I went). They also get a lot of the nearby CCB gems I don't see other places. Great food (I recommend the huge sandwiches) and even have a nice vegeatarian menu for us 'too manly for meat' guys.

I don't like writing bad reviews, so I'm going to try and keep this as cordial as possible...
Located in a strip mall type place, you walk thru the front door and there is stuff piled on top of one another...all beer stuff, kind of odd. Is this a retail store, a bar, a deli, what? I notice a room off the right that has bottles and bottles of craft beer...okay they have a retail space inside this bar/deli, cool. The host greets us, and we say we'd like to have a beer, and seeing how the bar was full, the host went into melt down mode, and couldn't figure out how to handle the situation. Well, we can sit on one of the three couches in ONE of the bar areas, or one of the tables, not a problem.
The selection is nice, again nothing outstanding. Heavy on German, and foreign pours, with some good craft speckled in there.
Everything was poured in proper glassware, but it just wasn't a very welcoming vibe, honestly. As we left, the host was bringing the open sign in, and it was 7...maybe that's why it was such a weird vibe, everyone was hustling to get out on a Sunday night. I will try this place again, but left feeling slighted and unfulfilled, it just wasn't what it's ninety something rating says it is. We did not try any food.

Dunderbak's was my bar of choice for six years in Tampa. If you appreciate beer or want to learn about it, it's the place to go. They have 55 beers on tap featuring both German and craft brews, rotating daily. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. The food is excellent - almost better than what I had in Germany - and they offer awesome weekend specials. They also feature local musicians weekly, they got me started brewing beer, and host the Tampa BEERS homebrew club the first Tuesday of every month. Having just moved to the Twin Cities area for work, I have yet to find a bar that's as inviting and comfortable as Mr. Dunderbak's. I would recommend it to anyone who's interested in good beer, good food, or is just looking for a cool place to hang out.

Nice find in Tampa, perfect after a day at Busch Gardens.
Picnic tables inside a European deli ambiance. Beer/wine are all around you. Box cases of interesting beers stacked around the shop.
Extensive german menu and the few items we snacked on were spot on. Definitely recommend both hot pretzels (the "american" and the "german") as well as the pierogis.
Beer selection is outstanding. Not as german as I would have guessed, but a very impressive array of crafts. Probably 20-30 taps.
My server was friendly, but didn't know a whole lot about the beers. Could have just been luck of the draw.
Prices are great.
Overall, a great find. Recommend stopping in if you are in the area.

As a former student from USF this used to be one of my favorite places to visit while living in that Temple Terrace/New Tampa area. This place has a german beer hall feel and look; sometimes they even have people playing german songs with accordions which is a funny addition to the atmosphere. Best of all, this place has a wide variety of beers both on tap and bottles.
Food is good and the service has always been pleasant and fast. The staff seems to be very knowledgeable, at least when I was there they were able to answer a few questions and recommend me some good beers.
If you are in the Tampa area give this place a shot!

I only wish I could go here more often. The place has the feel of a German Beer hall / restaurant but has beers from around the world. AND these are not just any beers, there is a fantastic selection of beers at this place. US, Belgian,British, and of course German beers were VERY well represented here. Most of the tap beers were German but that was a great thing as that way they were likely to be fresh and from what I tried, they were. Service was friendly and fast. The food was very good and priced very reasonably ($6 for lunch). Some of the bottles may have been a bit pricey but not too bad and they took off 15% from the ticketed price. Great place, will go back when I am in FL.

This place is awesome, straight up. It has a great ambiance that ranges from a pleasantly frenetic pace during peak traffic to old-world comfort during a lull.
The beer selection is phenomenal. More on that later... First things first, they have one of the most delicious potato preparations you will ever feast upon. A hybrid of french fries and potato chips, these spuds are outrageously delicious; I recommend trying them with the various uber-mustards floating about the premises.
Now, the beer... I like to think I know my stuff with the best of the geeks, but everytime I come through here I am confronted with a 'what the hell is that?' moment.
Anyone in the USF campus area should pay this spot a visit, though I would check hours first to ensure that they are open. I have gone there several times expecting them to be open only to be stymied!

Although I have been going to Mr Dunderbak's since the mid-70s, I recently went back for the first time in 25 years.
The outside had a sign proclaiming "NO CRAP BEER!"
Inside is a beer/sundries room, deli cases, small performance area and table seating, along with a bar that stretches between two sections.
Nice selection of brews on tap, including a large number of winter seasonals (e.g. St Bernardus Xmas), specialty beers, and Belgians. All of the staff members were very knowledgeable of the beers, and they were adorned in "Bier Polizei" shirts.
The prices were very reasonable -- $6 per pint/goblet...and the goblet was probably 14oz. Even Coton from The Bruery was $6.
Food is pork-heavy, but that's what the German restaurant is going for. Since they have deli cases, you can choose from around 20 cold sandwiches. There are also 1/2 dozen or more schnitzel variants, and lots of hearty appetizers. There's certainly no excuse for you to feel alcohol effects faster due to lack of food.
Atmosphere is nice -- plenty of regulars, and skews towards a grad-school/post-grad age group.
If you are in the Tampa Bay area, Dunderbak's should be a part of your regular rotation.
