Lumpy, beige head. Slowly settling. Very slowly! Dark brown where no light shines through. Plenty of chunky lace on the glass.

Beyond the black patent comes with a strong earthiness and background of yeast. Not what I would expect, nor is it really on spot.

Not as sweet as some Milk Stouts, but this is an excellent stout. Very smooth body with a slightly elevated carbonation. Bitter finish of heavily roasted unmalted barley along with black patent. Notable hop bitterness. The aftertaste is moderately long and chewy.

A - what is there to say about the color of a stout, 30 weight, deep space, what ever black synonym you can come up with, its that color black, with a thin tan head that laces swiftly

S - chocolate malts with some easily discernible lactic sweetness, even with a blind pour, one could easily pick this out as a milk stout

T - the first word that comes to mind is disappointment, a mess of burnt malts and lactic sourness, not sure I was going to keep drinking this. The finish offered some redeeming qualities, big coffee flavors with a mocha twinge, some buttery acetyls smooth out the flavors

M&D&O - not the best milk stout I have had. It lacks the smoothness of a high quality milk stout, It's good to see Opa Opa expanding their beer lineup and I will continue to check their progress as they work out the bugs in these new ventures.

I'm assuming this is the correct place to put this review. OPA must be bottling this and labeling it simply as their "Milk Stout."

A: Typical stout looks. A nice creamy, light brown head.

S: Good roasty aromas with some lactose and sweet malt.

T: Pretty solid roasted malt flavors. Some bittersweet chocolate and a touch of milk sugar.

M: Enjoyable and easy to drink. Proper carbonation.

O: I really enjoyed this beer. A simple yet well-executed Milk Stout with all the flavors you expect. I'm glad they're bottling this now because I haven't been able to make it out to Western Mass to visit the brewery.

poured from a growler into a standard pint glass.

a: pitch black in color with a tan head that sticks well to the sides of the glass.

s: roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate and slightly burnt toast. not much else.

t: light notes of roasted malt followed by flavors of chocolate, coffee. the lactose is noticeable but it it's not cloying in any way. well balanced and very drinkable.

m: solid mouthfeel.

a very good milk stout. recommended.

Enjoyed on cask at Brew City, Worcester, MA.

Arrived in a pint glass with a 3/4" tan head over the opaque dark brown/black brew. Head fades gradually, with good lacing. Nose is roasty grains.

Taste is sweet dark maltiness to start, coffee in the middle, and lightly bitter at the close, coupled with a revisit of the dark sweetness, which lingers in the mouth. Mouthfeel is way smooth, and very drinkable. Another cask hit.

On-tap at my first visit to the brewpub.

Poured just about black, slightly translucent. Small tan head turns to a ring quickly, leaves lacing here and there.

Nose brings nice sweetened cocoa, some caramel and dark fruit. a bit faint. Taste beats it out I'd say. Nice chocolate taste here, fudge-like almost. Caramel and some faint earthy hops, lingering sweetness. Dark fruit also noticeable. Light, pretty easy drinking. Mouthfeel is overcarbonated for the style which definitely brought the beer down for me.

Overall a pretty decent milk stout, I'd like it to be alot smoother but I wouldn't mind having this again.

Had this at Christopher's in Cambridge.

Poured from the tap into a pint glass.

The color is complete black with brownish foam, and about two fingers of head. Some slight lacing on the glass.

The smell has a slight milky flavor. There is some nice smooth, creamy flavor with a slight roastiness from the malt coming through.

The taste is a bit like a brownie with a slight fudge flavor. It is also a bit milky flavor that goes into some slight bitterness at the end. There is a touch of chocolate and a hint of fat-free pudding.

The feel of this beer is real smooth. The smooth feel of this beer was giving me visions of silk, and thin chocolate and vanilla pudding.

On tap at Atwood's, Cambridge MA.

Black with a thin tan head. Fair lace and retention. Smells like iced coffee when I accidentally dump too much sugar in. That and lactic acid. Tastes is cocoa and watered down coffee albeit not that roasty. Lactic sour in back gives an impression of an Irish stout. Smooth mouthfeel.

Did fine washing down a Tavern burger but not something I'd try again.

Black in color with a light brown foam head. Roasted malts on the nose. The texture and mouthfeel of this beer is incredibly smooth. The taste has a nice creaminess that is balanced with some fully roasted flavors. The creamy and smooth mouthfeel delivers some robust flavors in a miraculously clean manner. The finish is clean and makes you want some more.

Poured black with a brown head. Smelled chocolaty and rich. The flavor was warm, rich, and roasty. It was very smooth and I could pick up the hints of milk. Not much carbonation. Not much lacing. It was very good and I would definitely order it again!

Served from tap at Smokin With Chris in Southington. Pours a deep jet black with a huge yellowish head. Smell is of toffee, caramel maltiness, and milk chocolate. This one has an awesome espresso bean pop in the front, followed by a rich and creamy chocolate character in the finish. Nice dose of esters in here as well. Mouthfeel is light carbonation, a nice thick body that keeps its composure on the tongue. All in all, an enjoyable stout that is sure to warm you up on a cold night.

L: Pours a deep black color with a short but thick tan colored head that laces the glass nicely on the way down.
S: Smells of sweet and bitter roasted malts, some hints of coffee, caramel, and chocolate in the nose.
T: Tastes of sweet roasted malts, some chocolate and caramel malt, some coffee flavors, a nice milky flavor to it as well.
M: Very smooth, sweet, right amount of carbonation.
D: Very drinkable stout, I enjoyed this one a lot and would recommend it to people looking for a good milk stout.

Had on tap at the Brewmaster's Tavern. A slightly amber dark black milk stout. Good lacing on the sides and top with an overall patchy head. Milky biscuit tastes were sensed in the roasty flavorings of the smells. I did sense a slightly heavy fruity taste to the drink (maybe plums). But overall, a pretty creamy and really sweet. Really good.

growler in pint glass

smooth with no head at all. black. smells sweet and creamy with a nice maltiness.

very light body. creamy taste but not in texture. nice maltiness with no real bite. similar to left hands milk stout, but more simple and a bit sweeter. i wish it was a bit fizzier and thicker but good and cheap ($7/growler) none the less.

Brownish black colored with a low beige head. Aroma of cocoa and dark malts, some coffee. Flavors of cocoa and molasses, nice and rich dark malts, some smoke and oak, all with a fine hopped finish, and a subtle cherry tang linger. Somewhat thin mouthfeel, but it manages a tingly finish. Good beer, very drinkable.

Dennis let us sample this right from the tank, pre-carbonation and pre-much head. Boy would it make a top cask. lots of lactose. Chocolate malt and excellent bitterness. Roastiness and coffee charms were in the background. Can drink pints. Masterful.

Sampled on-tap at the brewpub.

This stout poured an impenetrable black through the body with hints of brown near the edges. The foam was dark brown and creamy, and settled leaving clumps and lace on the glass. The smell was dark, roasted malt with hints of sweetness and a touch of dark chocolate. There was also a faint note of lactic acid in the nose. The taste of this beer was rich, dark malt with some cocoa and a hint of lactose, with an underlying hoppiness. The mouthfeel had an initial sharpness upfront, but was very, very smooth and dry overall. The body was medium-full with light carbonation feel. The aftertaste resonated with roasted malty flavors. This was a very nice and beautifully smooth stout.

Just found this one in the note book. Figure I had the beer a few months ago and forgot to add the write up.
THe beer is chilled and I pour into a snifter.
The beer pours a pitch black with thin tan creamy head foaming up easily.
Aroma is roasty almost to the point of smokyness. SOme chocolate and coffee notes come through as well. Brown sugar makes a visit too.
Flavor is sweet chocolate up front which rolls to a roasty malt hit again almost smoky. The beer leaves a mix of sweet chocolate and roast on the finish. A very tasty beer that I note is the best beer I sampled from OPA OPA.

Almost jet black brew with a decent head...smell is rich in coffee, smoke and chocolate aromas. Taste follows with a nice coffee/chocolate combination that is lightly sweet and dry. Mouthfeel is somewhat light which leads to a veru nice drinkability quotient. Finishes dry....nice brew.
