Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #53 (June 2011):
American oak and rum-infused oak chips, we presume? Regardless, we’ll take this beer on. Dark ruddy brown color glim- mers with its clarity. Soft but pungent aroma; oaky, musty, hint of spice and alcohol, cigar, brown bread and ripe baked apples. Oakiness has some pull on the palate but lets the beer be a beer. Brown sugar and rum notes are mild, but are certainly complex layers. Maltiness is slightly dry and bready; modest hopping here. Some warmth from the alcohol. A very savory beer, perhaps a bite refined, but that factor does not affect the depth of its complexities. Seek this one out.

Bottle poured into nonic
Two finger beige head, brown body
Smells like Belhaven had a baby with Sailor Jerry, but that's a good thing.
Tastes: like Captain and Belhaven, but smooth and delicate. The finish is what gets you, because you can taste the warmth of the Rum accents.
Mouthfeel: Thick
Overall, have this on a winter's night. It'll get you closer to the hearth without burning your bum.

My favorite beer so I am biased... I'm sorry... I've tried a few other wee heavys but this one takes the cake with no competition in sight.... I'm not saying theres not a better wee heavy out there but rum cask is exceptional... had it at a beer event on tap and it was so disgusting that it was phenomenal. All the descriptions as far as taste mouthfeel and smell are dead on.... This is a beer that will not disappoint

A: A dark translucent brown, reminiscent of oak and rum, with a soapy white pillowy head that dies quickly.
S: That's a barrel-aged beer for sure; spiced rum-forward with some oak, molasses, butter, and dark fruits (and some pear, oddly). Drinking this in May, but has the nose of a winter warmer. Excellent.
T: Watered down rum, light dashes of raisin and pear, and a slight oak-tinge are the mainstays, with a faint vanilla underbelly. Grassy hops in the finish.
M: Surprisingly light, although I've had the original and it's similar in body. Very little carbonation.
