A dark, mahogany pour with reddish edges and a lightly tan head. The aroma has sugary caramel, oak, and some earthy notes. The medium body has a slightly sticky texture with soft carbonation. It has a sweet taste with rum flavor and slight warmth in the finish.

Appearance: hazy, cloudy, strong foamy, puffy white head, straw yellow around edges with orangey tint in the middle

Aroma: spicy banana and clove phenols, slight citrus hop aroma, pale malt aroma

Taste: banana and clove flavors with spicy hop additions, slight citrusy twang to it, pale malt supports the main yeast and hop flavors

Mouthfeel: medium body, smooth, medium carbonation,

Overall Impression: A very quaffable Belgian IPA whose body and flavor belie its 8.0% ABV. Playful hop and yeast character contribute to make an overall great ale.

Clear bottle, consumed as an after dinner drink, in my scotch tasting glass.
"This ruby red beer is matured over the finest rum-infused American Oak heartwood resulting in a beer with a delicious warming character that is bursting with fruit and lively spiciness. The vibrant flavours perfectly balance the beer's toffee-malt backbone making it an ideal accompaniment to game meats like venison or duck. It is sublime with mature cheeses served with good chutneys and relishes."
Sounds good to me! Not sure what else I can add..
Dark, reddish brown color, thinwhite head. Love the smell of oak, smoke, and dark rum.
Taste has the same oakiness, brown sugar, and rum flavors, but doesn't over power the scotch ale base. Complex, with new flavors in every sip. Malt base is bready, minimal hops. Alcohol warms going down, yet still smooth. I have enjoyed most Innis & Gunn, but this may be the favorite so far.

A-Poured into an oversized snifter-dark amber with an off-white head that dissipates quickly but leaves a thick ring of foam

S-Smelled like it was skunked from the moment I opened it. However, after a minute or so the skunk aroma subsided and gave way to dark caramel, alcohol, rum, coconut, and a faint hint of dried fruits. The skunky note really takes a backseat once it opens up after a couple of minutes. It would get a much higher score if it weren't for the skunkiness.

T-Caramel, rum, coconut, alcohol, and fruity with a hint of earthiness in the finish. More malty than hoppy, but there is a grassy hop flavor as well. The flavor was just slightly skunked, barely enough to notice. The flavor is not very strong, but it is very good. I planned on taking just one sip at first, but took two more back to back because it tasted so unique and good. Most of the flavor comes through in the aftertaste. It has a long oaky, rum, and coconut finish that is excellent.

M-Crisp and carbonated at the outset, but seems to mellow and become more silky in the finish. It could be a bit more syrupy and fuller bodied.

D-I began to feel the effects of this one quickly and its abv. is only 7.4%, but I wish I had more than just this one bottle. It feels like a true sipper, but I would love to sip this for a few hours.

Overall, I am pretty impressed with this beer. Once the skunky nose subsided this beer opened up and it was great. It is definitely softer and more mellow than American craft Scotch Ales, and barrel aged ales in general, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to drink it again in the future.

Beautiful clear brown in the clear bottle, but would prefer a brown glass for to insure no damage from light.

Creamy head, mild aroma

Very pleasing taste, smooth, multiple flavors coming through, unique touch of oak from the aging process. Well balanced with a long finish. Now one of my favorite beers.

Bottle poured into nonic

Two finger beige head, brown body

Smells like Belhaven had a baby with Sailor Jerry, but that's a good thing.

Tastes: like Captain and Belhaven, but smooth and delicate. The finish is what gets you, because you can taste the warmth of the Rum accents.

Mouthfeel: Thick

Overall, have this on a winter's night. It'll get you closer to the hearth without burning your bum.

My favorite beer so I am biased... I'm sorry... I've tried a few other wee heavys but this one takes the cake with no competition in sight.... I'm not saying theres not a better wee heavy/beer out there but rum cask is exceptional... Other wee heavy's I've had, had a bit more umph to it. Rum cask is smooth.. which is amazing being it's aged in casks. To me the cask beers usually are the ones with the umph. I don't have the greatest sense of smell but the smell was good... great carbonation which made a two finger head that stayed very long with sticky lacing. Very complex mouthier but again very smooth and layered perfectly. I really can't taste too much alcohol burn, barely taste that it's there but it is in the nose. It also may be more subtle because I drink it at 33°f-34°f. I first had it at a beer event on tap and it was so disgusting that it was phenomenal. This is a beer that will not disappoint. Put it in the freezer for about an hour... just before it starts to freeze.
