A new update. There was a time this was as close to the cutting edge of beer as there was in southern MN. That day has long passed.
There are several places in town (Owatonna) that do everything better. This is truly a don't bother stop.
Another review as the previous manager was let go a few months ago, and I've been watching to see how the place would change. It appears for now there still is some commitment to keeping the selection fairly wide ranging, but it's real inconsistent and often beers are bought in rather small quatities (not that I blame them). The previous manager had a passion to develop the best beer store in the region (southern MN). I'm not sure that is the goal of the new manager. Nonetheless, good and interesting beer can be found. Some beers have a pretty quick turnover so every few weeks new stuff can be found. Other beers have far exceeded their recommended shelf life. Still not as complete as the better stores in the Twin Cities and still a little more pricey. Regardless, still a worthwhile stop.
I nice little surprise when I rediscoverd this. I've been able to develop a relationship with the manager who acknowledges that he knows little about beer, but from a business point of view wants to have the best selection available in the area. And he does, by far.
As of this writing he has all Rogue available in this area. Several Belgians. Nice sample of British, German and Czech beers. And then lots of novelty selections.
Also pushing for available regionals (Summit, Schells, Lake Superior, Bell's, Capital) plus many US regionals like Victory.. Obviously, there isn't anything here a guy couldn't get in the Cities, but I guess that's not the point. Stuck out here in the middle of nowhere this is nice to have.
One negative...he buys in small quantities so the prices tend to be greater than elsewhere, so expect to pay a little to a fair amount more.
Location is convenient for travelers. Right off the I35 next to Cabela's.
I say, if you're driving by, give it a try. You can find something you like and maybe even something new.
Let's encourage this kind of venture.

Its been a few years since I have lived in Owatonna but this seemed to have the best selection of beer in that town. It was pretty much a run of the mill liquor store with the exception that it had a nice selection of singles. The liquor selection was sub par but you could find some singles there that couldn't be found anywhere else in town.

I'm pretty sure this place is in the process of shutting down. It was like a ghost town inside, with hardly anything in the moderately sized room. Still plenty of macro's in the fridge, but besides that, slim pickings. Don't count on finding anything here.
As I have to write more characters... The attendant came out and didn't say a word. There was plenty of empty shelf space. It was pretty weird being in there with hardly anything on the shelves.
Again, I'm pretty certain their in the process of going out of business.

This is a spacious beer hamlet alongside the highway. The store itself is nice and big, but most of the place seems like wasted space. The coolers have a number of macros but have a few micros as well. There are singles on the shelves that have a fair number of locals. A fair number of the Sam Adams/Leinie's/Sierra Nevada type beers. The service is poor. Didn't see a soul when I was in there till I got to the counter and waited for a while till a guy ambled out to check me out. All in all, it's ok if you need to stop along the highway. Otherwse, meh.

I was driving up from austin when a huge billboard for this place cought my eye. It was easy to find with a huge building all to its self. The store was very spacious and the selection was amazing. i liked how the singles were all labled with the region/country that they were brewed in, i really found that informative. The staff was friendly, busy in back but did strike up a short conersation. not overly knowledgable about the product but this isnt the first place ive seen that. I enjoyed the store, amazing beer selection the only thing lacking is a knowledgable staff

This place is easy enough to find as there is a huge billboard along side I-35 telling you where to go. The store is in its own building, and is very spacious inside. The coolers alnog the back wall are mostly filled with macros, but there is some local stuff like Summit, Schell and Leine. The real reason to stop here is the singles sellection, as there are four or five moveable shelving units devoted to them. As for the selection on those shelves...well, it is solid but not spectacular. There is a decent number of quality Belgains, and an ample amount of local craft brews. The service was inattentive and rude. It is hard to tell how much they know about their selection when they make it clear there intentions are to do whatever in the back instead of serving the costumer.

I stopped here a couple of months ago on a friend's recommendation. He said they had a large selection of singles, and he was right. They had just recently opened, and were still organizing the store, but they had a large variety of Rogue, along with lots of regionals and imports (from eastern europe, germany, UK, and some from Belgium). If you are near Cabella's for any reason, or the Medford Outlets, this is a fine stop for beer. The staff was friendly, but not very knowledgable of their own stock (he recommended me Eku 28, based on it's popularity due to it's alcohol content). Bluemax, Cellars, Surdyks, and Winestreet blow this place out of the way, but for rural Southern MN, it's nice.
