I was expecting high prices after reading previous reviews but I was still shocked to see them. Most were at bar prices, and not of the happy hour variety. Alot were actually higher. And yet, when it comes to singles of micros, they are still the cheapest in town. Also the only ones in town. Country Garden (about 5 minutes east) has a great bomber and six-pack collection that is as good as this at slightly better prices, but this place has an unmatched (in this area) 12oz single selection. So, as much as it pained me to support these prices, I bought a mixed 4-pack. The place is a dump and service is terrible for an eatery, let alone for a craft beer store. I can't recomend this place for food or sixers, but until some competion opens up, its the best place for craft singles and mixed six packs in Lancaster.

I completely agree that overall, the beer selection is good, but the it's overpriced. Two important things to point out about Subs n Six Packs: 1. I rated the selection as average because the options for buying a great selection of mixed six packs has really improved in Lancaster. Since The Fridge opened, they have become the standard to compare for mixed six-pack selection. However, they too are pricey. Not as pricey as Subs n Six Pack, but pricey nonetheless. I do prefer Subs n Six Packs for their selection of Rogue brews, a personal favorite. The second important thing to know about Subs n Six Packs is their cheese steaks are absolutely the best in the area! Their chicken cheese steaks are awesome as well. During warm weather, they have a deck opened up and you can grab a draft and a cheese steak and enjoy the outside as well.

Hadn't been to this place in ages so I thought I'd stop in and see what it had to offer since it's the only place locally where you can do a true mixed six pack of single 12oz bottles...needless to say I remember why I don't frequent this spot. Sure they have some nice offerings but holy Moses are the single bottles marked up. I picked up some very standard stuff (2 Sam Adams Noble Pilsner's, a Petrus Gouden Ale Tripel, a Springhouse 7 Gates Pale Ale, and a great divide Belgica and a Smithwicks...I knew it was all over priced but really wanted a mixed six pack to take along to a Super Bowl party...when I checked out it was hard to stomach paying $24 for such an average mixed sixer...I mean c'mon most places give you a discount if you do a mix and match sixer...bummer...looks like it's still necessary to hit the road and travel to Abe's, Stateline, or heck even a Wegman's. I can't wait until the Lancaster area has more to offer...in time in time. Rant over.

the selection here is pretty good, although not very large. i wasn't at all impressed with the place it self, actually a bit of a dump. pretty pricey as well but then again in this are you don't have much of an option. if you're from lancaster or visiting the area i would recomend going to countrey garden instead. it's a little less pricey but not buy much and the selection is quite a bit larger. Although i did find a few things here that country garden didn't have. i didn't attempt to try the food, can't imagine much good comes out of the kitchen. but the lady behind the counter was nice enough.

Subs and Sixes is the west end's best bottleshop imo. they have, by far, the best selection of pretty much anything in the city. German and English micros to 40's of mickey's can be found here. Pricing is horrible though. I don't blame others for leaving once seeing the price of the place. They used to have 2 taps on hand that were reasonable but bottles remain painful to pay for.
For what it's worth the place has recently been renovated. the coolers are the same but the rest is thoroughly different.
i rated service as a 3. it's a bottle shop. you serve yourself. if you order food they'll bring it to the table but it's usually just a person running a register and, at best, a second person on the kitchen. don't expect a waitress, there's only 5 or 6 tables anyway.
my value rating is based only on beer. their food pricing is very fair and the food is of very good quality when you consider the menu. that is to say it's basic offerings done average or better. portions are nice as well. would eat here before "hooters" or similar. put it that way.
Great place to have a beer with a sandwhich or fries. Not a good place to pick up some TOGO's. it's sad really. if their prices would come down they'd be the only place in lancaster worth going too. as far as i've seen anyway.

What a disappointment. When I first walked in I was surprised to see no other customers inside. I said hello to the young man behind the counter and got a blank stare as a response. As I broused the coolers I saw what was probably the best selection of micro's and Belgium's in the area. As an import lover I was shocked that there was not a single brand here not available elsewhere.
Now the real stunner: the prices. Both singles and 6 packs where the highest I have ever seen. Anywhere. I was almost offended and left without making a purchase. Needless to say I will not be back.

As most have already said, the place is something of a dump. And yeah, the prices they charge for singles is an insult. The selection is awesome, probably the best I've seen in PA. But I have to wonder how long some of those singles have been sitting in the cooler. I guess paying eight bucks for something that you've always wanted to try but could never find isn't absurd; but what if you de-cap that overpriced brew and and it's a thirty month old bottle of sour piss?
I actually got a cheesesteak from there. It was delicious.

I just wanted to reiterate what eveyone else had to say about this place. Stay away. At these prices, every bottle ought to come with some vaseline! This place reeks of old smoke and over-flowing grease traps, I can't imgine eating here. They do have a very good bottle selection but I won't ever pay these prices. The woman at the counter seemed friendly enough but I didn't actually buy anything, so who knows. $20 for a bottle of Red and White. That's right, $20. Oh and if you do go in, watch the dates on your bottles very carefully. If I don't like a place, I generaly don't write a review, but poor, unsuspecting consumers need to be warned!

OK...I was reading reviews of this place and just had to chime in. This place is a must....STAY AWAY FROM!! Why? Because they are gauging the consumer. Do yourself a favor and drive a few miles up the road to Country Garden Six Pack. I spoke with the owner many times about his prices and honestly, he doesn't give 2-shits. He actually said something to that extent. A real miserable man. The place reaks of smoke and old, stale food. Who would eat in this place? The selection is pretty good, but for the prices, who gives a shit. I have seen some prices almost double what they should charge. And to boot, he tries to ring up prices higher at register. The kitchen is so filthy. I work in the food industry and I might mention this to our next visiting inspector. It really is a shame that somebody could run a good business like single bottle purchases and chooses to run it this way. Don't go here!
Cheers,
shertz

Quality: You walk in and are hit in the head with a horseshoe of coolers. Small seating for people who actually eat here. They have a few macros on tap. It's clean enough but reeks of smoke and grease, kind of unpleasant (where's the ventilation?).
Service: Not really present. The guy never talked to me while I was pondering the coolers. He was nice at the counter though. I read something on the wall about how immigrants get away with so much financial help. Made me laugh that they actually put it on the wall.
Selection: Awesome. DFH, Stone, Rogue, Belgians, Imports, sixers, singles, 750s, bombers. BEST local selection.
Value: This is where I feel slighted. I think the singles are way overpriced. Chimay Grande Reserve for $14. That's the highest I have ever seen. I've seen 2002s of it for $10.99. The only thing I thought was worth buying was Stone Bombers at $7.25 and even those are overpriced. Screw this, I'm gonna split cases from now on!
