Had this great beer on a recent trip to Rio De Janeiro. Had it in an ice cold can as well as an ice cold draft (choppe as they call it). Ice cold is the only way beer will be served to you in Brazil. It was brought to my beach chair for only 2 Reais (roughly 95 cents U.S.) Smooth and refreshing without tasting like a light beer. Kinda reminds me of a Busch beer but with a better taste. Now before you go and write off this review because of the Busch reference, imagine yourself on Ipanema Beach surrounded by literally hundreds and hundreds of Brazilian women with perfect bodies wearing thongs. I think you could enjoy Busch then!! Remember most of the beer consumption in Rio takes place on the beach in 90 plus degree weather so a 6.5% beer is out of the question. Overall a great beer that you should definitely check out if you are in Brazil!

I am a Yankee, my wife is Brazillian. She HATES that I bring this beer Itaipave home. It is the cheapest beer. 12 tall-boys for around $7.00 dollars a twelve pack. My wife says it a Nasty and Disgusting beer and will not drink. I think, perhaps the reason for each top of the can is covered in foil, would lead me to believe that at some point this beer got a bad reputation for rat shit or piss on the cans, bad publicity solved by covering each can with a foil topping. This is just a guess.
When I first got to Rio de Janerio, I would choose beers at the market, the cheapest, because I am not a beer snob, and grew up with Old Milliwalkee, Schiltz, Busch Bavarian...even Colt .45...Mickeys Big Mouth, Drewery...I was even a buyer of old ''BEER'' generic with the white can and black type..generic, was like 99 cents a six-pack and We used to get Buckhorn Beer for $1.00 six-pack. So I am a long-time connoisseur of value beer!!!
Anyways... ITIAPAVA is an extremely drinkable Pilsen lager, a bit of bitter nose...smells like lager beer with a great palate of malt and roasted grain, great mouthfeel and foam across the tongue and down the throat without, clean and refreshing, yes freezing cold of course.
There is nothing wrong at all with this beer, and for the price, you cannot go wrong.
And what in the hell with these reviews saying this beer has ''notes'' of fruit and melons and such, when there are no ''note'' present as this in this lager.
ITAIPAVA is just a crisp, foamy, malty, hint of grain, easy to drink, ice-cold beer.
It is nothing more and nothing less and a tasty VALUE, To Boot!!!

Pours a clear gold color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of strong adjunct, pale malt, hint of sweet malt, and slight Euro yeast. Fits the style of an American adjunct lager. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong adjunct, pale malt, hint of sweet malt, and slight Euro yeast. Overall, an average AAL.

Pale yellow straw. Grains, possibly corn. Watery and pretty much absent flavor, very below average for this style. Crisp and carbonated. Funky smell. A very forgettable beer. AVOID!

For the record which accompanied me in opening match of Brazil... I had no choice (or had been forewarned and were not taken by the emotion of the moment)... Yellow corn in them, Brazil!

269 ml can in Brazil consumed right after purchase and several months before date stamped on the bottom of the can.
Poured pale yellow-gold with a weak white head.
Feel: watery light body with medium-high carbonation. Slightly astringent.
Flavor: Very mild and slightly sweet flavor with only a hint of hops and an unidentified odd semi-fruity component.
The aroma is somewhat unpleasant and very weird for a "pilsen". Clear notes of cereal grains.
O: Avoid.
