Had lunch today at Moonshine and tried the sampler platter. The Able Danger was the best beer home brew they offered. The beer poured a nice copper/orange color with thick white head that laced. The smell included oine and bitter citrus. The taste was a good pine with grapfruit blast that was balanced by a good malt. The mouthfeel was medium in body with sublte carbonation. Overall the beer was good and would be the pick of the litter for me.

Grabbed a growler to share with my uncles on Christmas day.
I tried this brew six months ago, but I was anxious to revisit & review it. It poured a bit more blonde in color than i remembered, but it has a nice citrus hop aroma. The taste is pleasantly a bit stronger citra-hop than the aroma would indicate. The profile minder me of Stone Ruination a bit, just stepped down a notch. I really enjoyed this one. It hits my sweet spot: citrusy/piney hops with a slightly sweet finish. Well done!

This is an excellent, well-balanced IPA. There's a bit more sweetness in the flavor than you find in most IPA's. I'm not sure what the difference is between this and some other IPA's I've had here (such as Truth IPA and Fuzzy Dunlop IPA) but they were all very good. Perhaps Fuzzy Dunlop could explain the differences.

Sampled a pint served cold on draft at the Moonshine Brew Pub on Division St., Chicago, IL
A) Unfiltered but smooth glowing dull brass haze. Small white lacy head.
S) Summer wheat citrus & spice. Bitter and malty molasses sweet
T) Very distinct bitter hops combine with smooth, refreshing orange & grapefruit unfiltered ale. Very light considering an unusually high alcohol content for the style
M) Thick and satisfying. Ample carbonation, medium body
D) High alcohol (7.5 ABV?) limits me to one or two

Sampled this recently at Moonshine. It seems they have revamped their beer lineup, they had completely different names than my last visit in Dec. 2008.
Served in a nonic pint, this IPA glowed a saturated golden orange. It had an ample amount of lacing that collared the edges. Retention was good and the head lasted awhile.
Pungent citrusy aroma, slightly sweet with pale malt coming through a little. It smelled great, and very fresh to boot. Grapefruit peel and some orange sweetness, leafy green and moderately bitter. Dry in the finish with some malty traces in the aftertaste. Body was on the lighter side of medium, with ample carbonation. Easy to session, but at 7.5% (currently 6.9%) it's almost a double IPA. A worthy growler candidate, give this a try.
After writing off Moonshine completely, it seems they have now turned things around with a few solid beers in their lineup.
