A - Light golden amber in color with a fluffy eggshell head.

S - Herbal, some citrus notes, sweet malts and caramel.

T - Malty and crisp sugary throughout. Lemon and citrus peak through at the end with a ho-hum bitter ending.

M - Medium body and carbonation. Really missing here. Seems like it should be tacky and the flavors persist, but it doesn't.

O - It's good if you like the DFH profile, which it seems to follow exactly, IMO.

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.

Poured a deep brassy hue with a two finger frothy white head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a lively herbal hop atop grainy sharp malts.

The taste consisted of an initial herbal element that was soon overtaken by a harsh jagged graininess. There was an agressive lingering hop spice.

The mouthfeel was toward the drier side of the style with a vigorous carbonation.

Overall an interesting beer that is unfortunately difficult to palate. A little too much going on I think. SN should steer clear of these types of projects.

on-tap @ Belmont Station.
taster glass : from notes.

Clear, golden body with a foamy white head and spotty lacing.

Sweet, caramel, malty wheat notes blend wonderfully into fruity, melon, citric and floral hops.

Medium+ body with bubbly, foamy carbonation. Faint hop oil feel at times.

A unique beer, I would like another chance to try this again and do a more in depth review.

Pours amber with thick white head.

Smell is fruity with lots of citrus and hints of sweet malts. Alcohol presence as well.

Taste is very malty and sugary. Hint of almost a molasses character to it. Lot so bitterness throughout. Very musty bitterness too.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Average carbonation.

Overall this is good. Would definitely get this again.

A - Opaque, clear as can be, golden, 2" inch white fluffy head, amazing lacing right up to the high beer mark

S - carmel, citrus, milder hop

T - initial: carmel, honey, lemon grass. finish: orange, grapefruit, bitter level (4/10)

M - real frothy, creamy, high viscosity

O - A bit disappointed. Taste is too mellow, nose is more grassy than anything. Appearance is awesome, mouth has everything you'd hope for in an IPA. But, didn't taste the wheat at all tho.

Cloudy orange gold body, topped by four fingers plus of snow white bubbly foam. Outstanding lace.

A fruit basket of citrus - grapefruit, lemon, oranges - mixed with some fresh pine to create an aroma which somehow says juicy.

Caramel core encircled by juicy fruits. Different fruit blend than your typical IPA. Pine. Bitterness lurks in the background. Very tasty. Non abrasive.

Creamy mouthfeel, a pleasant surprise in the style.

A different sort of IPA, different hops leading to different tastes, but highly enjoyable. Definitely worth trying one.

Appearance: orange in color with a 1/2" head that lingers around a while.

Smell: caramel, lemon and graprefruit citrus, and some bitterness comes through to the nose.

Taste: caramel, grapefruit, lemon, melon, some biscuit, and some moderate bitterness creates a well balanced IPA.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Crisp at the start, less crisp and a bit dry at the finish. The aftertaste is short lived.

Overall: This was an enjoyable brew that wasn't overly citric or bitter despite it is a DIPA. I found this to be very good and I am looking forward to more of this.

Served in 750ml bottle.

A- Bright, clear, amber-orange, resilient white head

A- Beautiful herbal, spicy, citrus hop presence bites the nose upfront awaking your senses in an addicting manner begging you lend the beer your nose for one more sniff.

T- Creamy beginning with a slightly hoppy ending, supported by a minimal representation of the aroma in between.

M- High carbonation, medium body, creamy, loosely dry.

F- Dry finish, but most of the beers flavor other than a slight presence of the grain rolls off the tongue.

If this beer tastes like it smelled it would be fantastic, unfortunately it does not. The Beer takes home the gold with smell and appearance, but dissapoints everywhere else.

750ml bottle split with Hopswagger
Served in a SN IPA glass

A - Pours copper/amber some suspended specks. 2 fingers of rocky meringue head sit on top and sinks into a dense collar.

S - Doughy caramel malts, sweet lemon and grapefruit citrus, pungent floral hops show up when swirled.

T - Bright sweet citrus against a sweet and clean caramel malt. Hop oils coat the tongue with notes of orange blossom and leafy hops. Lemon and grapefruit pith bitterness comes strong on the finish. Grapefruit oil is left on the aftertaste.

M - Full body, soft and smooth feel, oily at times, creamy carbonation.

Very bright flavors with clean bitterness, soft and creamy mouthfeel. Hops are showcased well. I'm very glad I git to try this.

P: Slightly fragmented but clear golden copper body. Creamy wet head that laces the edges gracefully.

S: Fresh sun kist grains, wheat, barley, orange oil, lemon and lime leaves. Clean and crisp.

T/M: Toasted caramel malt forward, toast with honey, lime, lemon grass and fresh grains left in the sun. Bitterness presents itself in a stable citrus assortment creeping in toward the finish with an ever evolving profile. Timid persimmon bitters in the back of the throat. Creamy medium feel with a dash of perfected carbonation to create a creamy smooth pull.

O: The aroma is a powerful beast of beauty and grace. Smooth and relaxing flavors massage the palate and coax it into submission. The profile changes from sweet sunny malt to a assertive yet refined bitter dragon that creeps in towards the end. Enjoy!

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled on 1/28/2013. Pours lightly cloudy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with plenty of streaming carbonation. Aromas of orange zest, peach, lemon zest, grapefruit, pineapple, orange rind, floral, grass, biscuit, light caramel, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of hop notes with moderate malt balance; very pleasant. Taste of orange zest, peach, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange rind, pineapple, floral, grass, biscuit, light caramel, light pine, and floral earthiness. Light-moderate floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, peach, citrus zest, pineapple, floral, grass, light pine, biscuit, light caramel, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of unique hop flavors; with a very balanced hop/malt sweetness profile; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy, fairly slick, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice DIPA with unique hops. Very nice balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. Pretty tame for a DIPA, but I really enjoyed this one overall.

A: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a coppery color and a clear consistency. There was a two inch, foamy, long-lasting head. Excellent lacing.

S: An incredibly sweet and floral aroma, with some traces of hops as well.

T: Tasted of hops (a somewhat low amount for a DIPA), a citrus element, a floral quality and strong malt presence in the finish. Kind of unbalanced and unfocused. Too much malt and not enough hops for the style.

M: A decent amount of carbonation with a slightly slick finish. Medium-bodied.

O: An uneven beer. Some good qualities, but it doesn't quite make it.

Clear amber colored beer, nice almost perfect 1" of head on it, has above average retention for something with upper degree hopping. Aroma was far sweeter than I was expecting. Don't know if it was the malt additions or the hopping, who knows, this experimental hop stuff, I have no frame of reference for, so hey, it was sweet, from where, I dunno at this time. Aromatically, it just didn't deliver what an excellent dipa should in the nose.

Taste was again, sweet, there was an herbalness to it as well. I'm already thinking, hey, this is a lot more DFH than it is SN at this point. As far as hoppy beers (well almost all beers), that is kind of a bummer, I'd rather have a bigger SN footprint all over this. Minimal citrus inclusions. There's some spice aspect (coriander?) that doesn't need to be there either. Grassy, herbal, floral, but lacking hop punch quality. Sometimes, trying to go unique and reinvent the wheel isn't as impressive as just making something reliable and predictable that gets the job done.

12.99 a bottle? No way. Not gonna happen, I wouldn't pay $12.99 for a 6 pack of this.

Glass like transparency slightly off hue golden with thick fluffy head that is glued to the glass. Looks clean and fresh. Smell is pretty mild, some hops and pineapple with lots of bread, cereal and grains. Taste is interesting, a little more herbal and spicy than most IPA with lots of cereal grains. Honey, pepper, and fruits add some nice details. Feels full and sticky in the mouth, leaves some lingering sweetness and resin from the hops. Overall solid, but a bit of a disappointing beer considering it is a collaboration from two of my favorite breweries. Tasty, good unique qualities, but not something I'm going to go out of my way for.

Poured from a bomber into my DFH signature glass

A- pours a crystal clear copper color with a slight orange tint, a fast stream of bubbles rises to the surface, a fluffy one finger white head appears on the pour and retains well, Spotty lacing

S- not getting a lot of hops here, kinda sweet, caramel, vanilla, bubblegum, almost smells like a wheat wine

T- hop bitterness comes through on the palate, caramel, some oak, still getting some spices like clove, odd combination of flavors

M- medium body, decent balance of carbonation, finishes dry, solid

O- this was okay, nothing special, the taste wasn't bad but not a good representation of a DIPA, not worth getting again

LOOK: Pours a hazed orange, white head forms and leaves plenty of lace rings going down the pint glass.

SMELL: Honey, herb, bubblegum, candy sugar.

TASTE: Well balanced wheat sweetness, fruity yeast, and bright, semi tropical citrus hops. Herbal and pine notes, fairly resinous. Strong bitterness fights the sweet. Dig it. Medium bodied feel, decent carbonation. Light bodied for its strength, an there is little to no hint of booze.

OVERALL: A nice beer from Dogfish Head and Sierra Nevada. Split with my family and was enjoyed by all. Good stuff.

A - Firm, copper, lots of soapy foamy head, lots of lacing.

N - Bubblegum, wheat, old banana, medicinal, estery; nose definitely points toward a hefeweizen, orange peel, vinous, grape skin.

T/M - honey, molasses, bright and aggressive hopping, peaches, astringent, soap, table salt; thin, oily mouthfeel, there's this unwanted bitterness in the finish, kind of a mess.

Feels like competing styles between a wheat beer and a IPA are colliding together in not a good way here, too much astringency.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – Pours a medium amber color golden color with a nice one finger pure white head. The head has very good retention, slowly fading over time to leave a great level of lacing on the sides of the glass.

Smell- The aroma was not all the heavy but consisted of a nice blend of fruity aromas as well as some other lighter hop smells . The fruit was a mix of melon and some tropical notes of tangerine and mango with the hoppy notes being mostly of a nice mix of grapefruit, floral, pine and herbal smells.

Taste – The taste begins with a mild hop flavor of a grapefruit nature and a fruity flavor. The fruit flavors are mainly of a melon nature creating a rather sweet and lightly hopped flavor. As the taste advances other hop flavors begin coming to the tongue as well the melon lightening to a small extent. The hop flavors that begin taking over are of a more herbal like nature with the melon now being replaced by some flavors of honey and a light tropical fruit flavor. Toward the end, more hop flavors of an herbal and grassy nature dominate the hop taste to leave a moderately sweet and “green” flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the more syrupy and thick side with a carbonation level that was rather average to just above average. The syrupy feel actually complemented the melon flavors quite nicely in my opinion giving it a more chewy yet slick fruit watery fruit like feel of a melon. The carbonation being on the average to just above average side was furthermore both nice of the melon as well as made for a quite easily drinkable beer. While the carbonation was nice for the melon flavor, it did hide some of the hop flavors, so… it is sorta a toss up on the mouthfeel.

Overall – A fairly melon sweet but overall quite drinkable brew with a good hop blend. While I would have liked a little more hoppiness, it was overall a quite enjoyable drink.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass, bottled on 1/28/13. Pours s bright orange, with a two inch fluffy white head, that leaves webby lace. Smell is apricot, tangerine, cut grass, and mango. Taste is similar, apricot standing out and followed by a medicine flavor, that is a little bitter, but also strange. Body is medium large, enough life, not really dry, and easy drinking. This really disappointed me, two great breweries making a sub par imperial ipa, with a odd flavor.

A - Bright orange gold with a thick, dense, one fingered creamy, frothy white head and lots of carbonation. It's a pretty amazing looking IPA in the glass.

S - Earthy dankness, biscuity malt, vinous, light on the pine with lemons and floral - all very subdued. For an IPA, it's a very unique aroma.

T - Very balanced and unique taste for a D-IPA. Earthy, green vinous, melon, lemon, pine, and finishes on the sweeter side.

M - Medium body with a slick, viscous feel and almost creamy character on the tongue. Finishes with almost cloying sweetness.

O - This beer is just plain odd but I tip my hat to Sam and the gang because that's what they're known for, not one of my favorite DFH beers and worth a try at least once to say you tried it but wouldn't have it again.

had this one on tap and it was decent, but the bottled version seems a bit better.

a beautiful clean light caramel/gold hue with 2 fingers of fluffy detergent-like white head which dissipated slowly and gave off great lacing. smells mostly of hops, herbal grass notes, pine/soap, grapefruit. the flavor again is all hop. there is a nice bitterness up front almost of a garlic spice flavor, followed by earthy bitter notes, slight soap taste, finishing with a sweet/fruity flavor coming from the grain bill. medium body with high carbonation makes this a very refreshing beer. the alcohol content is almost un-noticeable.

this is a pretty good dipa, but i was honestly looking for something mindblowing from a collaboration of these two breweries. if you're just expecting a good, fresh tasting, refreshing dipa - then this is for you.

Poured into a large snifter. Glass of water for sipping on the side.

The beer pours out a nice dark copper color with a 1" thick light tan or off white head that slowly dissapates leveing behind patches and speckles of lacing. Early on sipping leaves lots of lacing but as the beer warms and goes down there is less.

The aroma is an interesting blend of wheat and hops that has a slighly soapy character to it. As the beer warms the soapy character is replaced by a warm wheat smell supported by the underlying malt.

The flavor of the beer is rich mouth filling. The wheat shows in the background and the hops have a nice early character that trails off into bitterness and dryness, making it easy to take the next sip.

The mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side with active carbonation that persists throughout most of the beer.

Overall I'm enjoying this beer but it isn't one I'll make a point of seeking out in the future. I'm glad to have tried it but there are many others I think I prefer more. Especially given the price per oz. of this beer, which seems on the high side.
