750ml bottle poured into a New Belgium globe.
A: Clear brassy amber color. Two fingers of bone-white creamy head retains very well and leaves a network of web-like lacing in its wake.
S: Fruity and floral hop aromas. Wildflowers, delicate pithy and green scents, and mango puree. Apricot and cantaloupe. Soft, earthy touch of pine. Hints of pineapple esters. Equally prevalent wheaty and bready smells and a touch of honeyed granola make for a rather balanced nose.
T: Bitter herbal hops greet the palate. Leafy and earthy, green and planty. Juicy melon and melon rind tastes burst onto the tongue. Bitterness builds but never quite becomes aggressive. Candied, bubblegum sweetness. Honeyed bread. Hops lend peppery and herbal spice toward the end, as does a slight kick of alcohol. Tropical esters come out more as the beer warms. Dry wheat on the finish with fading earthy and melon-like hop tastes.
M: Medium-thick body. Creamy and very filling and round in the mouth. Light, tingling carbonation. Some hop astringency. Nice mouthfeel.
O: This is not at all the beer I was expecting, but that's not a bad thing. Lots of hop flavor at play, but the perceived bitterness falls shy of the hop-nuke I thought it would be. An impressive show of hop complexity.

Served from tap to glass. Has a light yellow color, with a nice thick head of about to fingers height. Has a bitter hoppy taste at the first sip with a sweet tastes and a smooth clean finish. Has a nice smooth mouthfeel, the sweet taste and bitterness dissipates rather quickly. Overall pretty good beer.

750ml DFH-embossed brown bottle, purchased from Whole Food SoMa in San Francisco.
Pours a pleasant bright orange-golden colour, with a fine, slightly filmy white head. Lacing is specked and intricate, falling away in great streaks down the glass. Body looks pleasantly fine, and holds misty, powdery carbonation. Overall, it's a good-looking beer.
Nose is less potent than I expected, but pleasant enough. Sharp, green hop characters give a resiny edge to the beer, while a rounded caramel character provides the bulk. There's some wheaty, husked grain characters which come through too, giving a raw, slightly rustic edge. The hops are present at least, but not particularly potent.
Taste is similar: big caramel malty sweetness provides the basis of this beer, while hops cut through a little but never become dominant. Light lemon-citrus characters, a musky, slightly salt-saline tone and some brisk peppery herbal characters on the back. Finish is dry, but with lingering medicinal herbal characters. It's not bad, but it's not really inspired.
Feel is light but smooth, kept in check by the hop character and a very fine carbonation.
Overall, this is decent stuff. It's quite well-balanced, pretty drinkable even for 8% ABV, and with a good amount of flavour. It is a little bit generic though, and in the end does feel a bit like a beer we've all had before.

eyes...
a little darker than golden straw, one nice finger of fluffy white head, good lacing, a mere smattering of bubbles populating the glass, pretty good looking, not much else to really say...
nose...
husky wheat aroma with some herbal/floral notes, a touch of honey, a lemony spritz thing going on, smells sort of musty almost like saison-ish, I don't love it... or hate it, it's ok.
taste etc...
sublime body, not quite silky, not quite prickly... all those things in harmony, a really great feel, full and malty, coats the mouth, the flavor is pretty mild, a nice fabric of bitterness and florals but a bit subdued, the ABV is absolutely hidden in this, this is pleasant.. and that is about it
verdict?
tough one, obviously this is well crafted, the ABV is barely an issue until later, it is balanced like mad... but... but... it just doesn't do it, something seems missing, it is not bad in any way but it just leaves me wanting something more, it finishes a bit better than it starts (some mango flavors I am noticing)... but... I dunno, this one falls a bit short for me
