Fruit / Vegetable Beer |  6.00% ABV

Availability: Rotating. bottle (204), on-tap (26), nitro-bottle (1)

Notes:
For our first new 12-ounce 4-packs in nearly half a decade, we replaced the classic barley foundation of beer with a mild sorghum base. The hints of molasses and pit-fruit are balanced by vibrant strawberry notes and a unique complexity that comes with the addition of a malty buckwheat honey.

We believe health-conscious beer drinkers and the millions of Americans who suffer from Celiac disease can cut back on gluten while relishing the distinction and drinkability of this very special brew.

It has a fruity, wine-like nose of strawberries. The smell is very sweet. It tastes a bit odd up front (from the sorghum I'm assuming) but after that the taste of honey is definitely dominant. The beer itself isn't overly sweet like honey, but the actual flavor of honey is predominate and it sticks around in your throat, like you were drinking a cup of tea with honey in it. Surprisingly, I found this offering from DFH really good. I was wary because of the "gluten-free" thing along with a beer containing strawberries and honey, but its pretty good. I'd drink it again.

Poured with a strawberry red hue added to the malty amber body. Love the color but the head was borderline nonexistent.

The scent is quite pretty with a bouquet of sweet strawberry and sorghum, as advertised.

The taste is like a strawberry wine. Almost Zinfendal like in taste there's a bit of harshness. I don't detect much in the way of buckwheat or the sorghum, just strawberry sweetness.

Overall I can appreciate the effort but perhaps strawberry is not meant to be in an ale as the sweetness overpowered the rest of the beer.

This brew pours and orange-brown color with a small head which dissipates quickly;minimal lacing and lots of carbonation.

The smell is strawberries, honey, lemongrass. It is kind of funky, damp and syrupy.

The taste is strawberries, some honey, not enough, a weird earthy, potato like flavor; I guess it is the sorghum. The high carbonation kind of gets in the way of the taste. Strawberry dominates the taste.

The mouthfeel is strong with carbonation. I can't say much else about it.

This brew is okay on a hot day, I am drinking it on a hot day right now, but there is too much carbonation and not enough hops, like most fruit beers, for me to say that I would like to have this again.
