Had on-tap at the DFH brewpub in DE sometime around a year ago. Poured a deep, dark brown color with a very thin off-white head. Head receded into a ring of bubbles that left some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of coffee, dark/roasty malts, dark chocolate and spices. Taste followed the nose mostly, and I honestly did not taste the plantains. Perhaps a touch of brown sugar was in there as well.

Mouthfeel was roasty and dry, and on the heavier side of medium. A little too dry for the style...I would expect it to be smoother. Good, but not great.

First had: Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, Rehoboth Beach, DE

A brewpub exclusive, brewed with plantains and coffee. Poured opaque black into a stem glass, with a small tannish head. Malts and banana bread in the nose. Strong coffee to the taste, but mellowed out to a malty smoothness with some spice following up; not much plantainage in the taste, other than maybe a very subtle hint. Pretty dry finish with a mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Heavy-medium mouthfeel and pretty easily drinkable.

Ordered a half pint at the pub.

Opaque, black leather color with a wispy off-white lace. Spicing and coffee in the nose, cinnamon and nutmeg with a roasty backend. Crisp with a moderate sized body which does have a creamy element in the finish. Mild coffee flavor, bit of charred grain and faint burnt sugar as well. Modest hopping lets the spices through. Roasted flavor linger far into the after taste with dark unsweetened chocolate that melds well with the coffee. Semi-dry finish.

A solid coffee beer, roasted flavors are at the perfect level for the size of this beer. Definitely worth a go.

Thanks to Mike for bringing this to a recent tasting. Served in a snifter.

The pour brings a black-bodied beer with a good mocha head and a bit of lacing. The nose reveals its spicing as cinnamon and nutmeg come through along with some coffee and roast. It's quite roasty at the front, fading into spice and coffee as it warms. The taste isn't quite as spicy and leaves mostly just roasted malt and a bit of light chocolate. Disappointing as the nose was really nice and I liked the interplay. Body is a bit too thin. Overall, the nose was really nice and I liked the nutmeg and coffee combo, but the taste and body failed to deliver on the initial promise.
