On tap at Gaithersburg Alehouse. Served in a snifter.

Appearance: Clear amber color. Barest amount of head across the top with some lacing.

Smell : Very unusual. Spicy, herby, quite savory. Sage, oregano? Really unexpected but interesting.

Taste: Again, very unusual – very savory for a beer not much sweetness or hop bitterness, just lots of other flavors. Spicy, roasty, strong herb flavors. At times I thought I was drinking something that had come fresh out of a mediterrean restaurant oven – I really must emphasize the savory nature of the beer as that is was stuck out the most, not bad – just quite different but that’s the point of this beer, isn’t it? Not sure if I liked it per se, but I will give it points for being one of the most unusual tasting beers I’ve ever had.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, slick, just right carbonation. Coated the mouth nicely and went down really easy.

Overall/Drinkability: A very unusual beer. Glad I tried it but I can’t see getting it again. A beer worth expanding the palate with, and maybe with a pizza rather than the crab cakes I had, it would work even better, but by itself, just interesting to see an potential take on an ancient style, but not an everyday drinkable beer. However, I will again give it points for being such a creative and palate challenging beer.

Dogfish Head Brewery - Ta Henket - 1pt 6fl oz bottle

Look - Pours hazy golden-orange with a full fizzy head that dissipates quickly. Moderate carbonation.

Smell - Subtle fruits and bready with definite chamomile. Spice throughout.

Taste - Light and fruity, chamomile on top. Crisp and refreshing.

Mouthfeel - Rests on the palate almost like a tea. Good drinkability but a bit sweet.

Overall - Interesting brew, not really my bag but unique as hell from my perspective. Worth a shot. Tastes as advertised.
