Dogfish Head Brewery
Style | ABV
Limited (brewed once).
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.
An industrious, delicious porter that pours dark under a beautiful creamy head and drinks smooth with hints of licorice and dark, earthy notes throughout. This beer was devised and brewed by the tour guides and tasting room crew of the Milton Brewery - they were inspired by the recent installation of The Steampunk Treehouse outside the Tasting Room windows. Made with Marris Otter, Chocolate, Roasted Barley and Crystal malts, Warrior and Vanguard hops, licorice root and lactose to smooth the whole thing out.

A :: The glass was presented at the table with the deepest, dark brown liquid and an everlasting thin, tan head. The thin foam never truly disappeared during the entire visit.
S :: On first approach there was a sharp toasted, bitter chocolate. When this was approached again, a faint earthy undertone presented itself. The roasted character played the main role in this one. This one is not complex and presents itself as such.
T :: The aroma did not lie here. The taste closely followed the aroma. This started with a roasted milk chocolate style flavor that transformed into a dry, almost cocoa powder profile. In the finish there was a faint licorice bite mixed in with a slight hoppy bitterness.
M :: Starts off a little thin and expands with a carbonated creaminess that fills nicely. The beer ends dry and makes you want more just to destroy the dry feel.
D :: I was able to put down a few of these during dinner. It seemed to come out a little on the cold side, so letting it sit for a few minutes definitely did some good. I'll be back soon and if it's still available, I'll be having some more.
