Notes:
My Antonia (named after the Willa Cather read), is a continually-hopped imperial pilsner. This lager for ale lovers is citrusy, sweet and refined.
My Antonia started out as a collaboration beer when Sam brewed it at Birra del Borgo (hope you can read Italian) outside Rome, Italy, with owner/brewer Leonardo DiVencenzo in October 2008. In 2010, we began brewing My Antonia here in Delaware for U.S. distribution.

A - Pours a cloudy golden-orange color with a finger of frothy white head atop. The head fades down pretty slowly leaving behind some thick lace.
S - Aroma is a mix of strong citrus and tropical hops with lots of grapefruit and a bit of pine alongside some pilsner malt and a bit of lager esters.
T - Starts off with a mix of tropical and citrus hop with a bit of bitterness and some pilsner malts. Through the middle some pine hops comes through with some bitterness alongside a touch of lager yeast esters. The finish is a mix of grapefruit hops flavor with a touch of pine and some pilsner malt.
M - Medium-plus bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and bitter finish.
D - Very drinkable. Really nice hoppy Imperial Pilsner. The balance is really nice between the hops and malt and the finish is really nice and clean.

Just finished off a bottle with my neighbor.
Appearance: golden with a nice set of carbonated bubbles. Head is perfect.
Smell: earthy citrusy and interesting.
Taste: malt up front with citrus to follow. Crisp and dry. With some hops to finish up.
Mouthfeel: crisp as stated above and a bit thick ( creamy) for a pils. Interesting setup here.
Overall: I'm confused with this one and will have to have again as my first beer of the night. Tonight it followed some bigger beers.
Definately a good beer. How good, I'm not sure.

A. This is a clear gold beer with lots of bubbles. It has a bubbly head with lace. Man, there are a lot of bubbles.
S. Some bit of rye scent. Vegetable.
T. There's an interesting grape and dark fruit kind of taste. It has a bit of a hop taste. It is more dark fruit, even watermelon.
M. Bubbly and interesting.
O. Very nice beer. Interesting. As a pilsner, this has a very unique taste.

A beautiful yellow honey color. Little murky. Great head. Finger or more
S sweet. Fruity. Malty. Batter
T golden raisins. Brown sugar. get a sense of pancake batter.
M smooth. Hoppy but not too much. Good balance on the palate
O good pilsner. Dont usually appreciate a pils but has good amount of hops puts in another league with complexity.

Appearance: 25.4oz bottle poured into a standard pint. Colour is a pale yellow-wheat with a head that is a whopping three fingers in height, composed of many bubbles. There are very slight amounts of visible carbonation.
Smell: The bitterness and floral flavours are strong. Sweet, bready malts bring a nice balance to the aromas.
Taste: Light in comparison to the smell. Malts are first and foremost, followed by a bitter, floral bite.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body, finishes sticky, and has a vivacious amount of carbonated bite.
Overall: This is quite tame for Dogfish Head but I like it a lot. It's clean, crisp, and flavourful in a reserved kind of manner.

I've tried some different examples of pilsners' in my time, and I must say, though dogfish head is able to make your mouth feel like it just got punched with flavor, this time around I dug the hit. Mouthfeel is thick, and the hops are bitter , and yet sweetness is slight, but the bitter isn't bad, You can taste that they used some quality hops in this brew. I wouldn't reccomend to someone who's used to lighter pilsners due to the fact this flavor is so intense it might turn off a possible convert. But if you're looking for a pilsner thats gonna give you some bang for you buck, this isn't bad.

Had been debating on what DFH to try this trip to the beer store and i've seen this winking at me on the shelf for awhile so I bit the bullet. Here we go.
A: Nice yellowish pilsner color with the cloudy hazyness of a wheat beer. Just under 2 fingers worth of head, mellowed down to a nice thicker then usual amount of lace that stuck around and clung to the side of the glass.
S: Very floral. Orange, honey, pear and apple on the nose. As the beer warms, they become more profound. Also detecting hints of grass/grain once it warms but they are very mild.
T: Taste of bready/yeasty malts, then some excellent fruit flavors. Almost like some sweet tropical fruits, kind of hard to distinguish each and every but im picking up parts of tangerine, grapefruit and apple. Follows up with the bitter/floralness of the hops but that is very mild and enjoyable. Im enjoying this more as it warms. More flavors seem to be coming at as it gets lower in the glass.
M: Mild carbonation helps bring out the flavors. Left with a mild creaminess on the tongue and then a dry taste in the mouth.
O: Def. an enjoyable DFH beer. Nice fruit flavors mixing with the floral hops flavor and ending with a crips bitterness. Overall another great beer.

a crisp clear golden yellow pour with a perfect looking 2 fingers fluffy white head. smells hoppier than any pilsner i've ever had and am looking forward to tasting it! aromas of grass, bread, honey, orange. bitter sweet hoppy taste up front with slightly sweet malty backbone. the hops come back for the aftertaste and make their presence in this wonderful display of a pilsner. a nice light bodied beer with a crisp finish. i give this a high overall score because it makes me actually enjoy a pilsner. usually, they are lacking flavor and aroma but not this one! if it weren't for the fact that i haven't enjoyed any of the birra del borgo beers, i'd want to actually give their version of this a shot.

Pours a clearish yellow body with mucho head that stays around forever and is very clingy/sticky. A strong pils malt aroma with some sweetness as well as a grainy, grassy hop aroma. Good clean pils taste - the igher than usual ABV doesn't deter from an easy drinking beer that is hoppy and grainy and has a good sweet edge to it. Simplitsic but very enjoyable beer this is easy to drink on a warm spring day.

A: Golden orange, fluffy white head that gradually fades and leaves behind strong lacing.
S: Citrus, grapefruit and other tropical fruits, very juicy and ripe-smelling. Some malty caramel-type aromas too. Really distinctive and not at all what you'd expect from a pilsener.
T/M: As with the smell, the taste of this hybrid beer is totally unique. Really rich grapefruit hops, slightly bitter, with a sweet undercurrent of malts and fruit accents. Also a hint of spiciness that adds to the unique taste of this heavily hopped pils.
O: A really amazing, interesting beer that takes a totally fresh approach to the pilsener, adding tons of hops that give it a rich, layered flavor that's unlike anything else. It's very original and delicious.

Excellent gold color; lively carbonation; thick and sticky white head--great lacing...
Sweet and citrusy aroma. Grass-like with soft, earthy notes. Very pleasant smell.
Taste is an odd yet interesting. Bitterness hits you right from the go with a slight astringent quality. There's a classic malt goodness riding the backbone, too.
Mouthfeel is medium, solid and wet.
An intense yet enjoyable beer for the style. Bold and delightful. Nicely balanced between grains and hops for such a big beer. I'll hate to see this bottle gone, so I may pick up a few more bottles in the near future...gotta have more...

Pretty surprised to see a Lager from the Dogfish Boyz. This one did not disappoint.
A: Poured from a 750ml bottle into a Pint Schooner. Very effervescent head, even after multiple pours. Light golden, almost green straw color with a fair amount of turbidity.
S: I did not get a big hit on the nose, a little citrus, a bit of hops.
T: This is not your normal Pils. There is a lot of Noble Hops coming through here with a very crisp and tight taste. Malt up front with a bit of citrus at the end. Alcohol is very well hidden is a quite refreshing quaff with a crisp, dry finish.
M: I like it, very smooth and creamy for a Pils, with still a nice crispness and astringency in the finish.
O: I'm not a huge Pils drinker but this is a nicely made brew. Very drinkable and a good , well rounded beer.

Review from 1/2011 notes. Poured into a Nostradamus flute glass. Pours a light orange amber. Moderate white head that lasted a little while; nice lacing. Aroma of citrus, light fruit and hops faint floral notes. Citrus, hops and light malt, with a dry middle and hops bitter finish. A mild off flavor in the bitterness in the end, otherwise a nicely balanced, good tasting imperial pilsner.

On a bit of a pilsner kick this Spring. Decided to revisit My Antonia. Pours a lovely light clear gold with a fluffy head. I really can't put the aroma into words, other than to say that it smells like it's going to taste crisp and delicious. And it does! There's a slightly bitter, strong alcohol bite that follows the crisp pilsner taste. A little bit of tangy citrus there as well. This is the only imperial pilsner I've had, so I have nothing to compare it to. Even so, it's a great beer, for sure.

A - Pours a slightly hazy gold/straw with massive head, even with a gentle pour. Head has great persistence and leaves a lot of lacing behind.
S - Bready malt, a bit of citrus, grass and some spiciness.
T - Bready malts up front give way to a considerable amount of hops.
M - Mouthfeel is medium, smooth and very creamy with a bit of dryness on the finish. Very nice.
O - This is a nice, unique take on the style and I would have this again

Appearance: lots of bubbles, pale gold and translucent color
Smell: A very pleasant "mustard" hop; slightly sweet
Taste: This was very suprising to me in a delightful way. I was skeptical on the whole "hoppy" pilsner and did not know what to expect but it was enjoyable to say the least; light, mouthful, tastefully hoppy, not too much bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: light and bubbly; what one would expect from a pilsner style beer
Overall: Good enough that I am buying another bottle and taking it over to my friend's place tonight.

Bright pale straw color with great clarity and a massive sticky off white head. Freshly kilned grain on the nose with some earthy and piney hops. Some dry biscuit scents come through as the beer airs out a bit along with very mild undertones of bright fruits but other wise the nose is quite subdued.
Creamy mouthfeel. Bright and clean. Easy drinking. Incredibly hoppy but has a lingering sweet after taste. Initial dry bread crust up front followed by tart citric sweetness which is rounded out by the big clean hoppy finish. Some sweetness lingers.
A really good beer that I've been in love with lately, not the best I've had of this style but I do like a bomber of here and there. Incredibly clean for such a big beer.

Bomber bottle date of 2011 - 2 which I assume means second batch of the year. Pours a mostly clear golden color with significant carbonation. A nearly three-finger head that has decent retention an leaves bits of lacing.
Smells like a Pale Ale with citrus notes and a substantial amount of sweet malt notes. Just a bit of lager yeast.
Unusal flavor for pilsner for sure. Deep maltiness and a balance of citrus hop flavors. The malt flavor is very similar to other DFH beers but the blend of hop flavors seem to push this more toward an ale than a lager. But, I can't complain about that.
Medium mouthfeel and very drinkable. Great take on a pilsner. Another great experiment from DFH.

S- Some dried light fruit in the malt, floral and pine hop
T- Floral hop to start, some bitterness, a light malt with some fruitiness, dry and bitter finish
M- Highly carbonated, light in body and dry
O- More hoppy than I figured it'd be, a little more carbonation than I like as well, good flavors though and worth picking up

Poured unto a wellington glass. Why?, my favorite glass for drinking beer.
Appearance: Semi cloudy gold-amber, white head comes off the body maybe 1/4. Looks something like your darker wiesen.
Smell: Hops slight yeast.
Taste: Rich flavor of malts and slight yeast. Has a slight hoppy feel to it and to me slight sweet can't exactly pinpoint but it is complex done the right way.
Mouth: Medium carbonation, extremely smooth with an after taste that needs a steak to go with it.
Overall: A pilsner at the top of the food chain. Tasty, full-filling and can't honestly complain about anything else. Salud!

Had this one at the Dogfish Head tap takeover at
Coles in Buffalo, NY.
This was one of the last beers I tried and had no expectations for it as the thought of a pilsner doesn't interest me much. This beer is a game changer for pilsners, or at least a mind changer.
The grains get a chance to shine in this beer and the hops are there to balance things out. There is evidence of hops in the aroma and flavor but they are not the star. The higher alcohol helps dry out the finish for a nice overall experience. What struck me the most about this beer is the grains create an almost unsweetened ice tea like quality.
Very drinkable, a bit sessionable, and very very enjoyable.

A: dark straw orange color with one inch head and good retention.
S: citrus, grains, and bitter hops
T: light taste of bitter and earthy hops along with some of the citrus taste. Very grainy and neither dry or sweet.
M: thick for a pilsner, and it struggles with medium to medium light carbonation.
O: good beer, but poor drink ability for a pilsner. Not sure I like the mixture going on here.

I had this beer poured on tap at Mr Goodbar in Buffalo NY, into a pint glass.
A: Hazy Golden Straw Hue, Passes Little Light, White Head, Decent Lacing
S: Oranges, Cinnamon, Pine
T: Oranges, Piney, Black Pepper
M: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Spicey, Mildly Dry
Overall, mine was very spicey and with the orange taste, didnt really remind me of an imperial pilsner at all. A good beer but doesnt really follow the style as listed.

Served in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Pours a nice golden color with a light off white head. The head fades with moderate amount of lacing.
Smell – A sweeter citrus aroma meets the nose. As the smell advances floral and some maltiness and a bit of more piney hop aroma become detectable.
Taste – A crisp taste of citrus flavors are upfront, just as in the nose. A more bready malt flavor works its way in and mixes in with some citrus and pine hop flavors. Toward the end, a little bit of yeast flavor that comes into play; mixing well with the other flavors to round out the taste experience.
Mouthfeel – The body is of moderate character with a slightly higher than normal carbonation level. The body and carbonation are very fitting for the crispness of the taste; delivering a rather exciting experience for the tongue.
Overall – This is one nice beer. It is crisp and refreshing yet packed with quite a bit of flavor. One I will surly do again.
