Notes:
In honor of the 40th anniversary of the original release of Bitches Brew, Miles Davis' 1970 paradigm-shifting landmark fusion breakthrough, we've created our own Bitches Brew -- a bold, dark beer that's a fusion of three threads of imperial stout and one thread of honey beer with gesho root. It's a gustatory analog to Miles' masterpiece.

P: 750ml bottle into a Dogfish Head Signature glass.
A: Black as can be with a huge creamy dark tan head that hangs out for a while. Nice lacing that remains throughout the glass.
S: The immediate aroma is caramelized sugars, followed up with roasted malt and coffee and exceptionally dark chocolate. Some honey that becomes easier to pick up and the beer warms in the glass. Very nice aromas, they calmly invite you want to take a sip.
T: Dark roasted grain with a oh-so-slight charcoal flavor in the finish. Bitter dark chocolate without a doubt, maybe a touch of the coffee that was present in the aroma but the chocolate is much more pronounced. Alcohol is hidden well and only becomes apparent as a warming sensation in the back of your throat.
M: Thinner in body but creamy on the tongue and the flavors linger nicely. Carbonation is moderate and comprised of tiny bubbles. Deceivingly smooth and drinkable for 9% ABV.
O: This is a really nice, complex, imperial stout, I'm sure the more I drink it the more I'll find in both the aroma and flavor. This isn't the first bottle of Bitches Brew that I've had but it's the first I've sat down and dissected and I think I'm even more impressed with it's complexity. I'm glad Dogfish continues to brew this beer as it's worthy of a year round release. Bitches Brew is highly recommend, please find a bottle and give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Pours very dark with a couple fingers of tan head.
Smell is light coffee and vanilla.
Taste is very smooth, coffee, oaky, almost sour, slight bitter, burnt taste.
Very rich and complex.
I don’t know that it sets itself apart from some of the other imperial stouts, but it’s decent enough.

A: Pours an opaque black with a thick, creamy tan head that takes some time to settle. Lacing is fairly heavy.
S: Strong aromas of dark chocolate, burnt toast, roasted grain, coffee, dried black cherry, and vanilla bean are joined by earthy, herbal, leathery scents. I'm not sure if these are contributed by the honey and gesho root concoction, by the hops used, or some combination of both, but this has a really pleasant, inviting aroma.
T: Notes of black cherry, dark chocolate, burnt toast, heavy cream, vanilla bean, coffee, roasted grain, caramel, molasses, fresh herbs, leather, and earthy, woody, floral spices swirl across the palate. The finish is delicate, earthy, and warming with notes of molasses, coffee, chocolate, and roasted grain supported by a late swell of mellow alcohol.
M: Predictably full-bodied and very dry. Carbonation is supple, but not intense. Alcohol warmth is present, but is neither prickly nor peppery. The beer becomes increasingly smooth and silky after entry. Dangerously drinkable for an imperial stout.
O: A very nice concoction. I've always admired Dogfish Head's adventurousness and eclecticism, but I'm not always a fan of their special releases. This one, however, really hits the spot. The tej-like aromas and flavors are fairly subtle, but that doesn't bother me too much. This beer is advertised as an imperial stout and that's exactly what it is. Highly recommended.
