A witbier bursting with good karma. Made with dried organic orange slices, fresh-cut lemongrass and a bit of coriander, this Belgian-style white beer is a great thirst quencher.

Pours hazy, almost turbid, pale yellow with a scant white head and no lacing.
The aroma is very subtle and would be undistinguishable unless in a neutral environment. There is light clove and coriander, even some honey, but all is just barely detectable.
The flavor is grainy with light coriander and a little muddy. Again, the flavors are all quite muted. The finish is rather messy.
Namaste has a medium to light body and is a bit chalky with no alcohol.
Easily consumable and thirst quenching. This is a fine beer for a muggy day.

On tap at Gaithersburg Alehouse. Served in a snifter.
Appearance: Cloudy hazy golden yellow. No head on top but plenty of lacing noted on the glass as I drank it down.
Smell: Surprisingly not any smell at all. With a good swirl I could just barely make out something, but it was so faint I really couldn’t say what it was.
Taste: Lemony, hint of spices (I’m guessing the coriander) and a good wheat/wit twang. Some piney hops in there towards the end as it warmed up, but not overpowering. Tasty.
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, cleanses the palate and typical for a wit.
Overall/Drinkability: Okay. Nicely spiced for a Wit but not the most drinkable wit I’ve ever had. Went well with crab cakes and I would have loved a larger glass, but I would have stopped at one. Lack of aroma disappointing though.

1 pint 9.4oz bottle
Served in a pilsner glass
A - The body is a hazy straw color. Three fingers of white head leave some decent lacing down the side of the glass.
S - I get citrus on the nose, lemons and oranges.
T - The taste seems to have more of a lemon influence. I get some sourness the more I drink.
M - Medium with a lot of carbonation.
O - I would not say this is my favorite of this style and would not buy a bottle of this again. It's not bad. I just don't think it's worth the dough.

Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a hazy light yellow colored brew with a one finger white head that had good retention. The head eventually faded to give a high level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is heavy of citrus lemon and some spices. The spices are the classic wit variety of clove and pepper with some other herbal and grassy smells as well. With these are aromas of yeast and banana as well.
Taste – A wheat body mixed with a lemongrass flavor are the first to meet the tongue. They are soon joined by some coriander and clove, as well as, a light banana sweetness mixed with a pepper taste. These tastes remain constant on the tongue till the end of the taste where the pepper and banana lose ground to some yeasty notes. This yeast flavor when combined with an increase in the wheat and lemon flavors, produces a lingering aftertaste to be left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the lighter side and the carbonation level was rather high. These characteristics were good for the style and made it quite drinkable and refreshing.
Overall – It was pretty good, but nothing too exceptional and not really something of only big bottle format.

A: Pours a transparent straw yellow color with a two finger thick, foamy white head that dissipates slowly.
S: Has a very earthy/spicy scent to it, definitely some orange and what I am assuming is the smell of lemongrass as advertised.
T: Taste is as expected from the scent. Has an earthy taste, a bit of yeast flavor up front, the lemongrass lingers throughout with a tart finish.
M: Light in body with average carbonation.
D: This is most definitely a summer beer, very light in body and has a low ABV. Although I am not a huge light beer fan, this is a decent beer, but I wouldn't recommend drinking it in the winter.

A- 4 What's lacking in color (almost clear but slightly hazy straw) is made up for in bubbly activity and a big white fluffy head. Very large bubbles, fairly smooth and slightly sticky lacing.
S- 3.5 The aroma of Namaste is of lemon and a bit of coriander spice. It's kind of earthy. It is sour primarily, though, and leaves much more desired from my sniffer.
T- 3.5 Unfortunately I wasn't treated to a pleasant surprise in the taste from what its aroma left me hoping for. It is predominantly lemon and thus sour. I get less spice here than from the aroma. It does have a hint of wheat, and as it warms I find it to sweeten up a little which slightly calms the sourness.
M- 3 This is over-carbonated for my liking. It would be light in body but the high carbonation makes it feel more like medium.
D- 3.5 Not well-enough balanced for me to enjoy much of this. I could split the 750mL but wouldn't want much more. It is a bit sour and over-carbonated. I can get some of the ingredients that were used and I appreciate that, but they just didn't work as well together as I had hoped they would. Worth a shot I suppose.

It pours in a slight hazy yellow color.
The flavor is lemony and wheaty and quite refreshing. Hits mouth with slight flavor and then goes away and goes down really easily.
Lacks flavor, but makes it up as one of the most addictive beers I have had. Maybe that's a bad thing though. It lacks complexities from the German and Belgian wheat beers. It tastes almost like watered down lemon drink at times.

Poured into a snifter. Bottle says Bottled in 2011.
A- Pours a golden color with a 1/2 inch head that doesn't retain long before dropping to an 1/8 inch ring around the glass's edge. Super thin surface foam and nice streaks of lacing.
S- You can definitely smell the coriander along with a fume of alcohol and faint Belgian yeast.
T- Clean and light with notes of orange and mild spice. Especially easy to drink. Not much going on.
M- Snappy and bright as well as thin and borderline watery. Medium carbonation.
O- Not a bad tasting beer, just nothing special. Dogfish should stick to the extreme brews IMO.

Had this on tap last night at the DFH Brewing & Eats - Rehoboth.
Scored this one for free as the server brought be the wrong beer (ordered Theobrama). I'm always up for a free beer!
Look: Had a clear yellow appearance - almost like lemonade. The head was a thin white film. Lacing was sporadic. Carbonation bubbles were minimal.
Smell: A typical Witbier aroma. Peppery coriander, clove, some faint banana. Nothing special was in the nose.
Taste: Again, very typical to the style. The coriander hit first with hints of sweet banana making up the middle. The finish was a long lasting mango or kiwi that faded into a clean aftertaste.
This was a textbook Witbier in my opinion. I would say that Flying Dog's Woody Creek is probably a good comparison here. I've had others that were very similar, but the level of quality is probably what sets this beer apart from the others (plus it was fresh from the brewpub).

So, having a coupon for bombers and 750mL bottles at Total Wine led me to this release from Dogfish Head. I don't find the Witbier style to fit my tastes very often, but when I'm in the mood, a good one can be quite nice. My general problem is that they feel too light or the orange and coriander flavors often found in the style don't make it very refreshing. The description for Namaste noted that it was a very refreshing beer, and Dogfish Head is a name I can trust, so I went for it.
It was crisp and light, but unlike some Witbiers, the spices weren't overwhelming. Unfortunately, beyond that it seemed to be a typical Witbier with nothing in particular standing out. Perhaps it's a bit above average though, as I did find it more drinkable than a few I've had recently. I wouldn't pay the usual 8 dollars for a 750mL of this ever, but it wasn't wasted money especially with that coupon.

Served on tap at the Gaithersburg alehouse.
A: Cloudy pale straw colored body, no head. Served in a sniffer.
S: Pretty tight nose. Light spice.
T: Pretty light by any standard which is extremely light by DFH standards. Kind of like a good version of a macro wheat.
M: Very wheaty. Low carbonation.
D: Disappointing for DFH. Decent by other standards.

Shared this bomber with my girlfriend. Poured from a 750ml bottle into two tulips.
A - Pours cloudy gold in color with a super light and fluffy white head. Lots and lots of carbonation covers the glass.
S - Smells like wheat and lots of citrus. Tons of orange, a hint of grapefruit, some spice and maybe some lemon. Smells sharp and spicy.
T - Taste matches the nose. Lots of citrus up front and at the end. Kind of a alot of bittery citrus notes. Orange zest and peel? Wheat also comes through. This is a great summer beer but I'm dissapointed it didn't appear in my local store until after our first snow.
M - Mouthfeel is really light. The carbonation is high. Lots of little bitty bubbles. Once again a great summer beer.
D - If it wasn't 40 degrees out and was instead summer I'd be able to have a few of these and enjoy it.

Transcribed from notes on 12/12/10
$10 for 22oz at Pilgrim's in Coeur D'Alene, ID.
Poured to tulip.
A: Straw colored ale with low clarity - light shines thru, but as a glow, not a obvious light. Nice, white, loosely packed head dissipates early on. Nothing fancy here.
S: The scent, although strong, is sweet with grain and florals. Lemongrass, rose and gardenias make this a beautiful note to the beer.
T: Medium strength sweetness accented with corianderesque belgian yeast and lemongrass.
M: While carb seems excessive up front, foams out in mouth and leaves a nice, smooth, slick finish.
D: This is a good beer. Fits a niche desire. Although subtle, offer a complex variety of experience. Don't pass up, but don't expect a big beer. This is a slow, grows on you kind of beer.

Sampled March 2011
This beer arrives from the tap with a one finger thick, pale, white head (that even leaves some nice lacing on the sides of my glass) that sits on top of a lightly hazed, pale straw-gold colored beer. The aroma smells of watered down orange juice, musty malt, bright slightly earthy coriander (that largely escapes the more herbaceous / earthy notes that coriander can sometimes have). There is quite a bit of pale malt character that contributes an earthy grain and clean cracker like malt character. As my nose gets used to it, I am noticing a fair amount of clove-like phenolics in the finish.
Dry tasting up front, though there is a hint of malt sweetness in the middle and the finish is very dry with some accentuating notes from a carbonic bite, dry citrus zest, pale grain cracker notes and a touch of hop bitterness. Also lingering in the finish is a supporting, slightly grassy, earthy coriander spiciness as well as a touch of fermentation phenolics that provides touches of clove. The coriander all of a sudden got quite distinct with a lemon like character that it can often have; this plays a huge role in the flavor profile in the end, as it warms up even more it becomes even more like coriander taking on that sort of grassy note that coriander has. This is nicely light bodied and refreshing, and it has just enough body to not be watery or overly light.
A pretty nice example of a Wit, the coriander character is actually pretty aggressive, but somehow I am enjoying its presence in this beer.

S - Has the usual kind of spicy wet wood smell, but faint.
T - Tastes... pretty normal. Decent tang. A little more bitter than expected but in a not unpleasant way. The bottle says it's brewed with coriander, orange, and lemongrass, but it's pretty subtle. Just a hint of citrusy sweetness that bleeds into what I would call more like cardamom.
M - Starts soft and finishes crisp. Fresh and nice.
O - Well it's a refreshing wheat beer, perfect for a warm day. It's the basic characteristic taste you're looking for, so it makes the cut, but it isn't particularly notable. It was slightly more bitter than I'm used to. I can't tell if that was a welcome twist or a distraction, but I'm OK with it. Bombers are often ripoffs and this one is no exception. It's definitely not good enough to justify the $10 I paid. On a cost-per-ounce basis, a sixpack of this stuff would be over $28, which is triple what it's worth. FFFUUU bombers!

The Packaging was better than the beer, web site is pretty cool too. We will be trying other beers from this brewery. Pleasant enough nothing bold here. a seemingly average ale. We paired it with dinner, Thai chicken peanut salad, a good compliment... flavors then melded nicely. 5.0 abv

Built like a Franziskaner or Paulaner Weissbeer but many times the price! A letdown in terms of value for sure.
The cloudy creamy color, frothy lasting head and fresh citrus cues are there. Its soothing and easy to drink on a warm spring day. However, this one does not stand out from the style in any way for me.

Appearance is a nice foggy blonde color, with a pure white and thick and foamy head.
Smell is everything a wheat beer should smell like, oranges, a hint of spices, some lemon, and a hint of fresh baked bread.
The taste is a little weak. Coriander is the flavor that dominates, but besides that it is water, and weak. So lots of coriander, and a hint of lemon and orange juice, but besides that not a whole lot going on.
Mouthfeel though is decently thick and creamy, and seems to coat well.
Overall its an easy drinking beer, nothing to write home about though.

750 mL bottle poured into a Brewer's Art chalice.
Pours a hazed pale golden color with a nice long lasting white head and little lacing. Aroma is very mild, slightly tangy and citrusy with some lemon and fresh cut grass. Flavor starts off initially extremely tangy, exacerbated by overly active carbonation. Middle of the body has some more typical wit characteristics before a strong peppery and lemon grass finish. Mouthfeel is fluffy and medium thick, initially dominated by over active carbonation which distracts from whatever is going on with the flavors. The finish is a little more spicy and peppery than I like and doesn't seem well integrated with the rest of the flavors. A nice, refreshing beer, but not particularly well balanced or pleasing; this is a definite pass for me.

a hazy straw yellow pour with a little too much head (looks over carbonated), lots of lacing due to head. smells of bread, pepper, zesty citrus (lemon mainly). a slight punch of initial bitterness of dirt followed by a sweet citrusy orange flavor, as well as some citrusy tang. not really all that much there. light bodied with way too much carbonation (comparable to a freshly opened bottle of seltzer, i actually got gas bubbles up my nose).
overall, this was really an average beer. a good session drink, and a good summer lawn mower/yard-work beer. i don't see a reason why they would put this in a bomber and not just sell it by the six pack. very average flavors and smells, but at least it LOOKED nice. i think maybe there was a problem with this bottle being over carbonated that took a bit away from everything.

Pleasant but extremely light-bodied Wit-like beer. Pale, hazy grayish golden in color. Modest foam in the glass, and spritzy mouthfeel.
Light flavors with just a touch of orange. Not much evidence of the lemongrass supposed to be in the brew, but that's probably a good thing. More of a seltzer water taste. Light bit of malt sweetness is the best feature-- sort of a watery Hefeweizen flavor.
Overall it's pretty anemic, though inoffensive in flavor. What's offensive is the price of a bottle.

750ml bottles shared by Ari - thanks!
Pours a slightly hazy, bright golden color with a one-finger white head. Head retention is light and lacing is minimal. The aroma is dominated by lemongrass and coriander. You also can pick out some yeastiness and a little orange peel if you search for it. As with the aroma, the taste is almost entirely lemongrass and coriander with ligher hints of orange and yeast and virtually no alcohol noticeable. It's a fairly clean taste, but I'd really like to taste the base beer more and the adjuncts less. The body is a bit light on this one with moderate carbonation and no alcohol warming. Not overly drinkable because of the dominance of the lemongrass and coriander and the relative lack of complexity. It doesn't help either that I'm not a huge fan of witbiers. This one is probably not worth the pricetag unless you really love lemongrass and coriander.

Big ol bottle poured into a Lancaster Brewing Company pint glass. Got this one at Whole Foods for $8.50, it's a expensive wit but the proceeds go to help Armand from 3 fontaines in his time of need, so I can dig it.
Namaste pours into the glass looking bright hazy yellow with somehazy yellow and specs or squeezed orange. It gets darker towards the end of the bottle with the yeast. A nice bright white head with good retention but no stick, semi thick looking. Smells include wheat, coriander, lemongrass and orange peel. I get alot of sweet cereal like scents kinda like honeycombs. It's off putting. Taste starts off great with wheat mixed in with coriander and lemongrass. Squeezed orange makes for a push but is overpowered by the lemongrass which rules the roost. In the middle banana comes out to play. With warming things turn downhill, this gets a bit to sweet for me and the cereal comes through and a bit artificial tasting. Adding the yeast at the end did not make things better, even sweeter. The feel is above light bodied and is quaffable and refreshing to a degree, it's carbed up as well but fades with warming leaving for a thicker coat for a sec. I liked this for the 1st 12oz or so but grew tired of it and poured the rest out, it's just not my type of wit. It's to style but not incredibly balanced. Good for a gander.
