Poured from the bottle into a tulip.
A: Dark orange/brown with a small, frothy head that doesn't hang around.
S: Not a ton of aroma... mostly getting the hops and a slight citrus smell that you kind of have to look for.
T: The hops are still up front. Lots of bite. Slight bitterness. Slightly piney but I have a hard time placing any other flavors. Def. getting the alcohol.
M: Medium/full bodied. Average carbonation. For everything that's going on w/the flavor, it finished smoother than I thought it would.
O: I enjoyed this beer - I think of it as great for the fall or early spring. Will definitely pick more of this up and possibly age it to see what happens.

Poured into a Delirium Tremens snifter. Says Bottled in 2011.
A- Pours a murky dark orange with a 1/4 inch head that drops down to just some bubbles on the edge of the glass and in a neat formation in the center indicating healthy yeast.
S- Strong hoppy, medicinal, slightly alcoholic fumes come off of the top showing that this is gonna have a nice punch. Smells of fermented citrus fruit that's heavy and pungent. To some, these may seem like bad things but I'm totally down.
T- Indeed. Sharp hop bite right off the bat with an alcohol kick. Upon more sips, I enjoy the wide variety of hops that were used in this variant of 90 minute. They all seem to work together nicely, maybe being a bit cluttered since I'm tasting sweet, spicy, citrus and bitter all at the same time but it's enjoyable nonetheless. The main thing that makes this very different from 90-minute in its original form is the lack of malt, but I'm not complaining. After a while the alcohol seems to be well-hidden but I think that may just be my palate going numb from all the IBUs. Either way, this is very drinkable once you get used to it.
M- Medium-high carbonation from the bottle-conditioning is what I believe makes this beer the best incarnation of 90-minute. Plus, since it's unfiltered, there's a thick viscosity to it but not creamy like 90 can be.
O- Kickass! Like I said, this is my absolute favorite version of 90 (compared to Randallized versions, Burton Baton and the original). You take an already great beer like that and you make it unfiltered and bottle-conditioned and it brings it right back to its primal essence. Bravo

2010 A. 750ml into a DFH signature glass.
A - Cloudy dark-gold body with a small white head. Some decent lacing and edging.
S - Piney hops, sweet malts, and some spicy fruit characteristics. Fairly subdued and light.
T - Rich piney hops and sweet caramel malts. The hops have definitely faded with aging, however there are still some notes to be found. Just the slightest bit of bitterness in the finish. Fairly flat and boring though. Medium sticky mouth feel and light carbonation.
O - This beer may just be in an awkward stage, where a hoppy IPA makes that strange transition to a malt heavy barley wine style beer. At its current age its just average. Still enjoyable, but it was just so much better fresh.

A: Pours a beautiful hazy copper with a creamy, lingering white head. Looks imposing. Looks the way a DIPA should.
S: Aromas of citrus (orange, lemon, and grapefruit), pine, spruce, caramel, and peppermint are present on the nose. As the beer warms, a bready malt aroma makes its presence known. Much subtler than expected, but still quite nice.
T: Opens tart and hoppy with powerful notes of pine, mint, spruce, juniper, lemon, navel orange, kumquat, and pink grapefruit with caramel, nougat, and cream peeking through before the finish. The finish is smooth and mellow with a combination of citrus, pine, caramel, and cream notes underpinned by prickly, peppery alcohol. Nice integration of flavors here. Very sophisticated.
M: Full-bodied, slick, and oily. None of the stickiness I normally associate with American DIPAs is present in this beer.
O: This is an excellent DIPA. I would recommend it very highly.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a Duvel tulip. Bottled in 20112A printed on bottle, whatever that means.
Appearance: Pours a clear copper color with orange highlights and a 3 finger fluffy eggshell white head. Nice lacing.
Smell: Sweet citrus, candied fruit, caramel malt and a hint of alcohol.
Taste: Resinous pine up front followed by grapefruit in the middle before ending with more resinous pine at the finish. The alcohol shows up throughout which detracts from the flavor profile. Aftertaste is bitter with a touch of sweet citrus.
Mouthfeel: Medium-to-full-bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. Very smooth.
Drinkability: Average drinkability. The alcohol isn't masked very well, which takes away from the overall enjoyment of this one for me.
Overall: Good beer overall. I wish it were more well-balanced, but it's still a solid DIPA. Worth a shot.

Pours a gold color w/ a bubbly two finger white head. Good carbonation, good lacing. Nose is very citrus based. Tangerine, orange, grapefruit, hops, and some malt as well. Taste is the same profile as the nose, and pretty tasty. 9% ABV isn't really noticed at all- fairy well masked. Feel is citrus sweetness/bitterness/smooth malt. Good, but I'd like a little more bitter. Overall, this is a solid brew- I'd have it again.

22 oz. bottle, bottled in 2011 printed on neck, purchased from a good bottle shop 7/2011 and stored in temperature controlled conditions since. Unfiltered, bottle conditioned ale.
Poured into a Corsendunk Tulip.
Pours a nice thick ½” head, which slowly reduces to a 1/8” cap which lasts thru the pour, decent lace.
Attractive honey amber color, with excellent carbonation, a constant stream of “tiny bubbles” travel from the bottom of the glass to the head.
Rich golden malt smell, some light citrusy hops, bread/yeast, quite pleasant but wish the hops were more distinct. As the ale warms you do notice lemon and orange citrus aromas, though you have to search for them. In the end the malt/yeast is the dominate smell.
Rich malty flavor, some hops but not all that much, still there is a “bite” here, lots of bready yeast, great mouth feel from the excellent carbonation (fine, champagne like) and the full bodied malt. As in the smell after this ale warms a bit you taste some citrusy hops, and the malt becomes more intense.
A good finish of predominately yeast and bread, with some very light citrus hops.
Overall this is a very pleasant ale, and quite easy to drink. The 9% ABV is not noticeable at all. This is a very enjoyable, if somewhat mellow Ale, easy to drink. Reminds me of a bottled version of a “cask conditioned” Ale. That being said I expected a more aggressive hop character considering the label states that this is a bottle conditioned 90 minute IPA. Even though the bottling date is 2011, I believe there is a chance that this bottle is past its prime, at least you would have to think so considering the lack of distinct hop character, then again I do not know what the brewer was trying to accomplish. It was worth trying.

2010 vintage. More mellow (hops) and less abrasive than the last one i had about 6 months ago, this being aged around a year. Still very sweet, with east coast hop profile. Would be much better if paired properly with food. I enjoy the viscosity and look of the beer. It's a sipper of an IPA though.

Enjoyed on 9/12/11. 2011 vintage. 750ml bottle. Taken from notes
A - Poured into a Dogfish pint glass. Mellow rich gold color with very white head. Very hazy, shows the unfilteredness and I like it. Good retention and lacing.
S - Great hop scent. Sort of yeasty which is pleasant. Doesnt smell that overly hoppy. Smells more like a big Belgian IPA than a American version.
T - Very good. First thing that came to my mind. Not overly bitter. I actually expected more hops but now that I keep drinking it Im glad its what it is. Can definetly taste the unfilteredness. Like the style. Not like a normal large American Double IPA. More reserved. Lingers well. Yeasty and good.
M - Definetly feels unfiltered. I like it for an IPA. Its somewhat different.
O - Great offering from Dogfish. Good balance and the style. Im for sure going to go get some more bottles and lay them down for a year or two since they are bottle reconditioned and then see what they taste like.

Nice white head of fluff on this one, plus lacing that hangs around well. Cloudy, dark gold color. Aroma of fruity hops and noticeable malt. Lots of citrus/pineapple.
Taste isn't nearly as hoppy as the nose; the malt is much more forward as well as tons of booze in the finish. As another reviewer wrote, tastes almost like a barleywine, more than a DIPA. It's simply sweetly malty, then boozy.
Medium short finish, not super drinkable because it's way too strongly alcoholic. The hop character is pretty subtle and buried under the malt and booze. They're all in the nose and not too noticeable when you drink the beer.
In the end the aroma is the best aspect of this beer. It's simply too much for me, not very enjoyable to drink. Booze bomb.

This was my first dogfish head beer I've ever tried. It was not disappointing at all. I made a trip to Seattle last weekend and managed to find some dogfish head brews. Which was a very exciting moment for me because I'm from Vancouver and The company no longer ships to Canada. That being said I've never had a chance to try any of them, but heard lots of good things.
I'm still developing my taste for hoppy beers, but I found that this one had a really good balance of hops and sweetness I like from higher alcohol beers like a tripel. I also got some apricot flavour. The smell was very enjoyable but didn't jump out at me. overall I was very impressed and can't wait to try some of my other dogfish head brews.

First I must say that I am not a big fan of hoppy beers, but I consider DFH 90Min an exception as there is enough backbone to even still challenge the multitude of hops that Sam throws in there, so I hope that this version will be no exception. Let's find out:
Appearance: Pours a very slightly hazy yellow golden color with a small 1/8" head of off white bubbles after a pretty aggressive pour. The head faded back into the beer within about 45 seconds to leave a small ring where the beer meets the glass. There is no lacing left on the glass after drinking.
Aroma: My initial impression of the aroma is that it is quite a bit different than the aroma on the original 90Min. This version is a bit milder with much more emphasis on the earthy qualities and the citrus is playing a more supportive role. The alcohol is already coming out in the nose adding mostly spice with a very mild solventy quality. There is some sweetness from the malt that is coming across more like Vienna than anything with some toasty sweet notes and everything else is pretty reserved. The yeast is also taking a back seat, so the beer must have been fermented a little on the cool side.
Taste: The flavor follows the aroma pretty closely in that the hops are the predominant factor in the beer, and they are much more earthy than the original 90Min but they are coming across as a bit oxidized in the flavor where I didn't pick that up in the aroma at all. The overall balance is slightly toward the hops in the finish, which is characteristic of the original beer, but the sweetness from the malt is coming out much more in the middle of the profile. The mouthfeel is medium to a bit full as the carbonation is a little bit low for this beer. The finish is a tad watery due to the lack of carbonation, but the oxidation and bittering hops make sure that you don't lose focus on the beer at hand.
Opinion: This is a pretty decent beer overall. Of course, it blows away a host of other IPA's, but not the original 90Min. I was a little disappointed in that fact as I hoped that this one would be remarkably better. As it is, the oxidative notes are so strong that I am going to make myself finish the beer. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed in this beer and would MUCH rather stick with their normal 90Min going forward.

Thanks to JLindros for sharing this verticle.
*2009*
A (3.5) - Pours a clear dark copper almost orange with very little head. Some swirling resulted in nice clouding.
S (3.5) - Most of the hops have long faded, in its place are sweet carmel malts. Smells more likea barley wine.
T (3.5) - Tastes like a barley wine too. No hops, carmel sweet malts. Not boozy. Its good, but not what I'm looking for.
M (4.5) - Really, really good carbonation here. Stuff is spot on. This was the best carbonation of the bunch.
O (3.5) - It was nice, but at this point it isnt a DIPA anymore. Now if it was labeled as a barleywine I'd be all over it, but this, not so much.
*2010*
A (4.0) - Nice one finger head atop a crystal clear lighter copper pour
S (3.5) - Same lackluster hop aromas as the 09, just without as much big malts.
T (3.0) - Not doing it for me. Its not hoppy enough to be a solid DIPA, and its not malty enough to be in that barley wine stage. Not a fan.
M (3.5) - somehow, the mouthfeel in this was worse than the 09. Not enough carbonation.
O (3.5) - Again, this is in some weird in between phase. Not a fan.
*2011*
A (4.5) - A nice light clear copper body with a creamy two finger head that leaves nice side lacing. This is more like it.
S (3.5) - Even fresh, the hops in this are lacking. More malts than I'd like.
T (4.0) - Not a bad DIPA here, the hops are there, not strong, but they are there. Not bad malts either.
M (4.0) - Decent enough carbonation here. Not that bad.
O (4.0) - Not a bd DIPA at this point, still not nearly as hoppy as I want though.

Poured from a 500 mL. capped bottle (no date) into a snifter glass.
A vigorous pour yields a 1 1/2-finger cream-colored head that slowly recedes after a few minutes to a thin, clumpy dusting and thick foam ring. The body is a hazy peach amber with small, lethargic carbonation bubbles. Good lacing can be seen clinging to the glass throughout consumption.
Citrus hops aromas carry notes of mandarin oranges, pineapple, and mango. Some pine hops and sweet, caramel malts aromas are also abundantly apparent, though not at the front of the nose.
Sweet caramel malts start each sip with a strong citrus sharpness and slight notes of apple juice. Once the beer is swallowed, a slight pine flavor and more citrus flavors take over. Notes of orange rind, pineapple, and apple juice are prominent. A mild bitterness rests on the middle of the tongue. A slight alcohol warmth is also noticable in the back of the throat.
Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, this beer is both sippable and drinkable. The body is somewhat thick as it has a somewhat syrupy mouthfeel and slight stickiness. The carbonation is not overly apparent and could use a bit more strength to help cut through the thick body.

Got this one in N00b BIF 4 for my buddy Crabbicuss. Thanks a lot!
Poured a hazy copper orange color with quite a bit of head and great lacing.
Smell was fairly balanced - caramel malts with quite a bit of citrus and pine hop aroma.
Taste was really great. Nice citrus hop flavor throughout with some sweet malts upfront.
Mouthfeel was light-medium. Went down very smooth.
Overall I really enjoyed this beer a lot. I really wish that Dogfish still distributed here in Wisconsin.

Bottled in 2011
Squall pours a hazy golden amber with a head that fails to build much but which does leave oily lacing on the glass.
The aroma is more malty bready than hoppy but the hops are present with a mild citrus scent.
Big malts, bready and caramel in character, with a nice backiing of piney citrusy and somewhat earthy spicey hops. Definitely gives the impression of being malt forward. As with regular 90 minute the alcohol is fully hidden. The finish does manage to be slightly dry despite the big malt body and also finishes with a lingering bitterness on the palate. There really is a big hop presence but with an equally big maltiness that balances things. The flavors really begin to shine as it warms, with the hop and malt flavors really becoming much more balanced.
The mouthfeel perhaps suffers from a lack of adequate carbonation. It is full and medium but fails to be quite creamy in texture. It is very smooth however and as with the flavor improves as it warms in the glass.
While unique and quite tasty overall I'm not quite sure there is much to recommend Squall over regular DFH 90 Minute IPA. To be honest I'd need to drink a few 90 minutes again which I have not done in a while. I do recommend this as a very good Double IPA.

I poured this into a tulip glass. On the initial pour I had a lot of head, and on the subsequent pours I continued to get pretty good amounts of head. This lead to copious lacing. It made from a pretty good looking glass.
The coloring on Squall was a coppery, orange with a decent amount of cloudyness (no surprise considering the lack of filtering).
Off the top I get hops and booziness. It smells like a good drink to cap off the evening. The taste is also pretty boozy. There isn't burn on the pallatte. I just get some burn in the back of my throat.
It was nice to sip this beer and enjoying a summer evening. This beer is definitely one of a kind. I recommend it if you like hops and booze flavor in your beer.

A - Unfiltered deep orange with about a finger of head that dissipates to a thin layer of white bubbles. Little lacing is left behind.
S - Intense burnt caramel malt with earthy and citrus hops.
T - Sweet malt and leather at the beginning with some citrus hop bitterness toward the end. It finishes with a hint of black pepper and a light alcohol burn.
M - Light to medium body with quite a bit of carbonation. Almost a bit much.
O - This is a pretty good beer from DFH. It could be a bit more hop forward (I know it's bottle conditioned, but it is dry hopped with several varieties, after all). Carbonation could also be a bit toned down and chewiness toned up, as it drinks more like a barleywine. I know there are similarities between the styles, but I just expect a different feel from a DIPA, even if it is bottle conditioned.

Forgot I had this one, picked it up a couple months ago, finally got around to drinking it with a buddy last night.
Wildly cloudy deep copper orange color, obviously bottle conditioned. This one sports two fingers or so of rocky khaki colored head, that lingers around and isn't shy about dishing out some glass decoration.
Nose isn't quite what I bargained for, a combination of bursting caramel malts with mild grapefruit, pine and hops. Seems a bit subdued actually, more like a barley wine than the 90 Minute IPAs I'm used to.
Taste follows the nose, falling more into the sweeter and maltier side of the spectrum. This is almost overwhelmingly sweet, rendering the hops nearly absent. There is hints of fruit citrus, but they are to rather subtle. Finishes semi-bitter with a moderate alcohol burn. Again, not really what I went in looking for.
Medium bodied with a sticky consistency. Sugary and well carbonated; I still think this is more of a barley wine. Not quite a sipper, but I didn't drink this with the speed of an Olympic sprinter either.
Overall, I went into this with set expectations and was met with a rather different, but pleasing surprise. As an IPA, this isn't what I prefer, but I have to wonder how this one would hold up over time, given that it leans toward maltier aspects. I'll probably grab another bottle to experiment with, but I'll stick to west coast breweries for my IPA needs.

A: 2 fingers foamy creamy head that recedes slowly, it is a copper-amber orangey colored beer. Hazy and foamy as hell, you can tell this one's bottle conditioned. Great Looking beer.
S: Caramel and bready/biscuit malts, mixed with citrus and some grassy/floral hops, Light fruits. Somewhat different form 90 minute.
T: definitely some nice citrusyy hops, a ton of malts, the same bready and biscuity malts from the aroma. Front of the tongue is hops, middle/back is bready malts. Defintely some fruits and pineapple, mango in the background
M: full bodied beer, this is really heavy and carbonated, really nice, i love bottle conditioned beers. The bottle Conditioning gives it a lot of personality.
O: was a decent beer but didnt blow me away. I expect a lot of DFH right or wrong, and this just didnt do it for me

Pours a very hazy, reddish amber color with a medium, off-white head that diminishes quickly. Scent is somewhat similar to 90 Minute, but with less malt aromas. A lot of apricot and melon in the nose with subtle hoppiness. Taste is initially mellow malt flavors with a lot of apricot and a bit of citrus. Some bitter hoppiness...but nothing compared to that of a west coast ipa. Subtle booziness and hop resin flavors. Mouthfeel is full bodied with a creamy, yet refreshing finish. Drinkability is high. Overall, I'm pretty sure I prefer this over 90 Minute (would have to do a side by side). This is a tasty brew, even though I prefer my ipas to be a little less malty.

Poured a hazy auburn w/ good, frothy head that lasted a few minutes and died leaving a lace ring. While this is light to medium bodied w/ a sharp slickness, the hops are very pronounced yet also the beer maintains a good balance between fruit flavors, sweetness and overall body. So I get citric to the point of grapefruit and floral notes, but also a dry snap to the beer from spices, hop bitterness and a touch of breadlike malt and the ABV poking around. Yet there is also a sticky, syrupy caramel and sugariness in the background for a sweet counterpoint to this hoppy dryness and it balances out well. A beer to sip on that will give you a punch as you drink and then has a great dry finish that leaves you wanting more.

Bottle thanks to a generous kingkong.
A: Hazy dark orange with a big white frothy head. Really good retention and lots or lacing.
S: Sugary caramel with a heavy bready malt profile. Hops impart orange flesh and tangerine, but they're not as pronounced as the malt characteristics.
T: Orange blends with prominent bread and caramel notes. The malt is sugary and sweet. This is malt heavy, with a subservient hop profile. The beer has a lower moderate bitterness.
M: Medium body with upper moderate carbonation.
Overall: Not my type of IPA. Heavy on the malt and very sweet with feeble hops.
