A - The Dogfish Head Squall pours into a chalice a very foggy gold color, with a tan colored head after it settles.

S - diacetyls, alcohol, malts, some fruity esters

T - Oily diacetyls work the palate in the front; then, sugars and malts ... followed by some hop bitterness. There is a complex "bundle" of flavors to be sorted out here; takes a while for a tart hop taste to break through.

M - As mentioned above, this brew starts with some oils ... very smooth from the first sip. It has a heavy body, and lots of carbonation.

D - It's a sipper, skipper. The alcohol and diacetyl presence give this brew a big-beer and "extreme beer" character, and instant "warming" effect. "Squall" is such an appropriate moniker for this brew. The beer drinker is inundated with a barrage of flavors from yeasts and fermenting spin-off flavors to genuine sugary malts and hop bitterness.

Interesting brew. Big brew.
