Squall IPA - Dogfish Head Brewery

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a schooner glass. Brewing date lists 2011 3B - not sure when that is, but this stuff is hot of the presses!

A - clear amber, very carbonated, small (less than a finger) head dissipates after a few minutes. Little chunks of lacing left on the glass.

S - nose has a delicious pineapple/citrus hops element that really dominates.

T - lots initial hops bite with pineapple mellows after a second or two, but isn't really balanced by any malt. The sharp bitterness stays on the tip of the tongue, lingering but doesn't stick in the back of the throat. Definitely less of a "buttery" quality than the usual 90minute, with a sharper edge from the hops.

M - very light on the tongue with a lot less carbonation than the appearance would indicate. Just a hint of alcohol warming.

D - definitely goes down easier than a 9% beer should.

This is a nice variant on the 90 minute, though I'd say that it lacks a bit of the smoothness and finesse in the 90. It's got a very unique and lovely hop profile, but I think I prefer the regular 90!
