A collaboration beer brewed by Sam Calagione, Bryan Selders, and the Alström Bros at the original Rehoboth Beach Dogfish Head brewpub for the 2009 Extreme Beer Fest. Brewed with maple syrup, chestnuts, green peppercorns, Korean Corn tea (Oksusu-cha), Fawcett's Maris Otter base malt, MFP kiln coffee malt, Liberty and Vangaurd hops, and DFH's Raison D'Etra yeast strain. 8.0%

The name is an ode to The Konami Code (cheat code) on the Nintendo Entertainment System in the 80s; submitted by BA thequeue, the winner of the collaboration naming competition.

For a 10 year old keg this is pretty tasty!

Beautiful caramel pour

Caramel, maple syrup, toast on the nose with some cardboard oxygen too.

as the other reviewer mentioned in the review that a festival is not the best place to take review notes on a beer especially EBF, however this was one of the first if not the first I enjoyed on this occasion.

The color and appearance are standard and the aroma has a pleasant amount of malt with toast notes and slight yeast ester. The feel while stronger than most brown ales does not come off as too hot.

The taste is where this beer shines in that the many ingredients do not seem to become muddled rather each element is used in a way to showcase the flavor well. I have never had corn tea, but the nuts and coffee malt seem to dominate this with pleasant malt foundation and enough hops/spice to add to the complexity. Overall this was a lot better than I expected it to be considering the sum of the parts on paper -well done BA/DFH!

Any review of this is a bit skewed, I guess, as it was only available at EBF.. so even my review isn't entirely reliable.. A full review with notes on all 5 aspects isn't really possible (nor would it have been fun to take out my iphone and start typing at EBF) so just a general idea of what it was like is all that can be offered.. I did, however, make sure that it was one of the first beers I tried all night (and I had at least 5 pours of it) so I could really remember it and it was certainly awesome.. In a lot of ways (appearance, mouthfeel, etc) it was similar to Palo Santo.. even slightly in the flavor, however there was the presence of both the maple syrup and a slight presence from the peppercorn in the end of the sip. It's medium bodied and didn't have too much weight to it (again, I was able to have many pours throughout the night), to compare it to Palo Santo, again, it had less of an overall sweetness and a slightly lighter body to it, both of which worked really well for a beer to serve at a fest.. It was a bit crisp. Like a (slightly) sweetened brown ale with a strange (in a good way) aftertaste which set is apart from other beers, though it would be hard to put your finger on what it was without knowing the ingredients.
Truly upsetting that it won't be available year round, let alone ever (?), but it was definitely awesome to have it..
