A-hazy gold with a thin white head
S-strong scent of dark honey and syrupy malts. Smells strong, nothing like any witbier I've ever had.
T-comes in with a strong flavor as it smells, but it's quite nice and smooth actually with a slight hint of white Belgian wheats, but you got to look for them. The spices are strong in the after-taste with a nice wheat flavor actually. Not too much heat, but it's noticeable
M-thick body. Creamy medium carbonation with a semi dry finish
O-shouldn't be enjoyed as a witbier but rather as a higher gravity dogfish concoction. It's not a stand out in any other style and it's probably not something you'll ever crave, but as the very occasional beer to wind down with, one could do worse i suppose.

Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a hazy golden color with a slight reddish tinge and a one finger white head. The head faded relatively fast and left some nice lacing on the glass.
Smell – The smell is heaviest of yeast and a wine like grape aroma. Mixed with these, are smells of a citrus and dark fruit nature. Overall it is quite pleasant.
Taste – A sweet dark fruit flavor meets the tongue. The dark fruits are heaviest of cherry but contain lighter notes of prune as well. These dark fruit flavors are also mixed with a good presence of a grape flavor which combined to give this beer a wine like tasting body. While wine like, as the taste advances beyond the initial taste, yeast flavors as well as a light citrus flavor come to the tongue. Toward the end the alcohol makes its presence known and leaves a satisfying warming taste in the mouth.
Mouthfeel – For 10 % abv. the body is actually a little on the lighter side (although heavy in comparison to the average brew) and the carbonation level is on the higher side. Both the “lighter” body and higher carbonation are very fitting for the fruit and wine like characteristics of the brew and make it quite easy drinking even at 10 %.
Overall – I am usually not a fan of a beer that has wine like characteristics, but this one was quite enjoyable.

A: Half finger head on a hazy crimson and orange body.
S: light on the nose with orange, strawberry, corriander and a touch of lemon. Good retention and nice lacing.
T: loaded with corriander and peppery zest. Orange is late in the finish. Nice yeast character with well balanced tartness and sweetness.
M: light to medium body and high carbonation.
Overall: this is a nice beer. Not very witbier like but I assume that is the base and the corriander washes it out. Almost like an overpowered saison.

Had this beer at Sapsuckers in Huntington, New York. Poured into a brandy snifter with a medium pure white head, and a cloudy golden color. The nose has aromas of golden raisins & alcohol. The mouthfeel is thick & creamy with a slight effervensce that clears the pallette for the flavors you are about to experience. The beer has flavors of golden raisins, & champagne. This beer is excellent with a clean refreshing feeling that went well with the chilli with Mac n cheese.

First had: bottle from Joe Canal's, Bellmawr, NJ
This review is from a recent tasting on tap at TJ's, Paoli, PA
Saw this on tap and I thought I'd revisit it since #1 I hadn't had it in quite a while, and #2 I'd yet to have it on tap. Very heady, and it took about 5 minutes to settle to a servable pour. (TJ's tap lines strike again?) Murky orange-red color, the head was tan, ample, and very creamy. Grape and orange peel on the nose, citric acid and bread. First sip was...incredible actually. Maybe it was just because of the frothiness of the head, but it was incredibly smooth and creamy almost like a milkshake. With time, this died down a bit and mellowed to the usual taste and texture exhibited by the beer. Taste follows the nose pretty much, bready, yeasty, vinous, orange peel, wheaty bite. Medium body and some bitterness in the aftertaste. Crisp and tasty, and I liked it slightly better on tap.

I had this on tap at the DFH Alehouse in Fairfax.
A: It poured a fairly clear, Halloween orange color, with a mild wispy white head that stuck around for a while. Geez.... this thing doesn't look too high octane.
S: I got a lot of fresh filtered water upfront, with a touch of citrus and really not much spice at all. Very understated... much more so than I was expecting.
T: Ahh... there it is: DFH's: "signature" historic brew honey profile. Seriously, I taste honey in a lot of their brews these days, even when none is mentioned in the description. White winey, and with a good bit of orange peel. I will say though that the wine barrel aging is not that evident, but this stuff was much more flavorful than the smell dictated.
M: Dammit... I got honey on the texture as well! I've never really experience a Witbier this thick, but considering the unusual flair with this one (white wine? barrel aging?) it worked for me. There was little to no lacing left on the glass.
O: I've seen this one in the store, but had never taken the plunge until now. I dug this and wouldn't mind having a bottle floating around in my cellar.

On tap at O'Brien's
A: Copper color with a thin white head.
S: A lot of grape juice right away that sort of smells like Welch's. Some faint hints of wheat, yeast and red currant as well.
T: A bit of a heavy wit flavor upfront followed by a pretty big grape flavor. Faint wheat and a slight bit of hop resin. White pepper, yeast, some heavy malt flavors and a touch of bread on the finish. A little too heavy for me, but it's not a bad experiment.

On Tap at Hulmeville Inn
Red & White comes in the glass not looking red but more of an IPA look with a shaded golden hue with some marks of deep orange. The foam on top is semi tight, white and lasting leaving little streaks.
Smell is basically the Pinot Noir juice with orange peel squirts. The malt backbone is just that, a backbone, just some faint pale/pilsner malt. Oak does not shine through but im enjoying the Pinot. This smells not like your average wit.
This is quite pleasant. Off the beaten path of the same ol coriander/clove witbier. Taste is orange with pinot juice and maybe some cherry. The coriander used barely makes a dent but probably rounds out the over abundant pinot. Oak once again, not here. Tasty stuff.
Feel is at about medium and totally defies the style guidelines. A bit syrupy yet not overkill. A semi tartness on the end. Carbed up nice yet goes down smoother for a strange reason I cant pinpoint. I enjoyed this one. A 10% witbier, naw, this is a 10% I don't know.

Poured into 5 oz tasting glass as part of a 5 beer DFH flight at the Brewpub.
A-Deep red and orange color. Nice looking beer but it's all downhill for me from there.
S-Fruity but a bitter kind of fruity. Not really noticing anything in particular which was a sign of things to come.
T-Definately taste the woody grape flavors of the Noir and the Malt in the beer, but the combination of the 2 did not mesh well. Even had a medicinal like taste. Not what I expected at all but I think it may have cured my cough.
M-Syrupy feel in the mouth and warming going down.
O-I love Pinot Noir and I love beer but the 2 tastes together were like a science experiment gone awry. I am a huge DFH fan and give them credit for taking more chances than most breweries but I can not endorse this one. Sorry Sam!!

Pours amber with a decent amount of head. Smell is pretty much as advertised. Grapes, wine, nice amount of coriander and some presence of orange peel. Also some alcohol present in the smell. Taste is slight tartness up front, followed immediately by an intense sweetness. Wine characteristics (tart dry fruit, some tannins) come through once the sweetness subsides. Some subtle bitterness on the finish. Interesting, but it doesn't seem to come together, and the sweetness is a bit overpowering. I'm glad I tried this, but I probably wouldn't have it again

Served from the tap into a 4 ounce taster.
Appears an orange brown. Slight foam ring remains.
Smells of wine... Is that pini noir in the house? Pleasant grapes!
Tastes of noir grapes with a touch of honey. A little doughy malt as well.
Mouthfeel is a limited experience. Warmth brings out mOre of a wine finish.
This definitely crosses the bridge between wine and beer.

A- Has a nice deep red to orange color to it.
S- Has hints of spice, malts, citrus and some grape notes as well
T-Has a orange peel flavor up front followed by a big grape flavor and then finish's with some spice and sweetness
M-Light to medium bodied. With ok carbonation
D-overall i was hoping for alittle more. I didn't feel the flavors balanced as well as i would of liked and would of liked alittle more complexity from this beer.

DFH Red and White is a delicious witbier with hints of wine. The combination really worked well in my opinion.
A: Red/orange colour and a head that goes away. 4
S: Hoppy with a hint of something fruity. The wine? 4.2
T: The taste is creamy and delicious with some hops. The wine flavour is noticeable through the middle and in the aftertaste. This is a really delicious witbier. 4.5
M: Not especially thick with some carbonation. 4

A - The pours reveals a body of copper with a slight pinkish hue. A surprisingly competent almond-colored head exists briefly, but gives way to a smattering of soapy bubbles.
S - Subtle cherry and white chocolate appear in the nose, and perhaps even almond. The nose is not particularly interesting or pleasant, however. Notable taming of alcohol.
T - Flavor is soft and subtle, continuing the theme of the nose; nuances of petit fours come to mind. There is a marked presence of alcohol, which is not the case with the nose, leading to a lingering burn. The alcohol, while too hot, seems to intensify the cherry and whatnot, which is a good thing.
M - Feel is medium-full, pretty suitable for the brew.
O - Pretty good stuff, but I can't help but feel that this brew underacheives.

Served from tap into a sampler tumbler. Poured a slightly hazy red-orange with a minimal white head. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, banana, citrus, and sweet alcohol. The flavor was of sweet malt, banana, citrus, citrus hop, cream, and sweet alcohol. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew but not really my style. The alcohol aspect was definitely present like crazy on this one. The flavor was a little bit better than the aroma gave off, but that's not saying too much. Worth introducing to your palate at least once, but that is about it.

On tap at The Owl House served in a Duvel Green tulip.
Pours a beautiful light ruby tinged with purple with bubbles abound and a strong 2" head that formed into beautiful lacing. Smelled of grapes and a faint hop scent, and just catching the orange peel and spice in the back. Taste was so crisp and grapey, mild citrus hops and a delicious yeast with faint corriander barely detectable, probably the closest thing to wine I will drink. Mouthfeel is crisp, dry, bubbly, and light. Overall a very pleasant surprise from Dogfish Head. Hell yes to this big burley witbier.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy dark amber color with a half inch of head. Some lacing. Aroma is fruity and boozey. Orange peel, lemon, and grapes. This beer does have some qualities you expect in a Wit along with more fruit flavors. More grapes in the taste than the smell along with some orange peel. Boozey aftertaste. Definitely reminds me of wine. Overall its an interesting beer and worth grabbing but I would think a bomber may be too much.

I drink a lot of the Dogfish beers but I don't often have their specialty or historical beers. But this was on tap somewhere so I felt I had to try it. I don't think it was described as a witbier but I'm not surprised. For a witbier I'd almost say it's tame.
The beer was light in color with a frothy head but it not quite as active as you'd expect from a typical witbier.
Aroma featured a lot of spices as well as a bready aroma.
Flavor was similar to the aroma, except the strong alcohol presence definitely added to it. Kind of surprising, based on the aroma expectation, which hides the alcohol.
Overall this is a very good beer that I'll have on tap again if I see it but I probably won't get a 750 ml bottle.

From Notes:
A wonderful red/orange with a lovely fluffy pink head, nice lacing.
A whiff of coriander, some grape and a large dose of blackberry....odd
Wow its more like sangria then a beer, big dose of sweet red wine mixed with some orange kool-aid.
The beer is sticky and almost syrupy,
This beer is all over the map, not worth another try

Light ruby with a bit of haze. Sticky streaming lacing left on my snifter. Little head and or retention which is to be expected.
Aromas are surprisingly faint but begin to come around as it warms. Strawberries and resist dark fruit are present in both smell and taste. The coriander comes out at the end as well as the yeast to me. The oak takes the edge off some of the more Belgian flavors I'm used to and is very drinkable.
Mouthfeel is better than average for the style.

Served to me in a goblet.
A - A thin layer of head. Lingered for a bit. A nice ruby, amber color. Slight carbonation.
S - Sweet and alcohol smell. Cherries and grapes.
T - Tasted like cherries with a slight alcohol taste. The alcohol taste is really light considering it is a 10% ABV.
M - Medium light body. Nice carbonation.
D - I really liked this beer. Sweet but not over powering and it has a serious about of alcohol. I wouldn't have more than 1 or 2 considering the ABV, but it is definitely a beer you should try.

A - Served with a murky red-orange body that had some clarity to it...the head was thin from the start but showed nice retention...it fell to a spotty cap and left a few traces of lacing
S - The nose is rather fruity with grape juice standing out...Belgian yeast and slight spices are noticable
T - Caramel actually stands out first to me...it's paired with undertones of dark fruit (probably dates and cherries) but there is lighter fruit (apples and grapes) also...the grapes present themselves as winey because they leave a little tartness...the malt and the yeast are only slightly noticable in the middle...no alcohol burn
M - Medium bodied but sometimes coming across thin...nice carbonation
D - When I ordered I did not realize this was 10%, but the alcohol is masked very well...nice flavors with the pinot standing out more than the oak...just watch the price tag and the abv

Pours a hazy reddish color almost like a fizzy wine with a slightly off white one finger head and little lacing. The aroma is pungent of grapes, cherries, oranges, and lemons, like a fruit salad. The taste is of some lemon and orange but a majority of white grapes, cherries, and red grapes, there is a wine like feel to the flavor. At the back end I feel the grapes are very present. The mouthfeel is well carbonated and slightly stingy. The drinkability is very high, this was a weekend staple on our visit, a very easy smooth drink. The alcohol is well hidden and you can easily have multiples of this.

Pours a clear amber-orange color with a small white head with not much retention. Lots of lacing as I drink it.
Aroma is of perfume/red fruits (possibly from the yeast), grapes, coriander and a very light orange peel note.
Taste is stronger than the nose but similar: wheat/sweet malts, orange, lemon and coriander finish. Also a lot of red fruits (mainly cherries, grapes and strawberries ). Not much of an oak character despite the barrel aging.
Body is medium with high carbonation. Not as much drinkability as expected from a Belgian white.
Nice imperial wit with lots of different an unusual flavors for the style. But I think it is a bit too much as Witbiers should be more simple and straightforward.

Had this on tap at Pony Bar in New York City. Pours a hazy orange colour with thin white head, minimal lacing. Smells quite spicy, I don't know if I originally picked up the wine, but upon knowing it was there I could smell it. Sweet Belgian yeasty flavour. Nice smooth mouthfeel. I really didn't realize this was 10% alcohol, hides it nicely.
