Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial Stout |  18.00% ABV

Availability: Rotating. bottle (1433), on-tap (105), growler (2), nitro-tap (2), cask (1)

Notes:
Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, World Wide Stout is dark, rich, roasty and complex. This Ageable Ale clocks in at 15-20% ABV and has a depth more in line with a fine port than with a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer.

Serving in a Palm 16oz Snifter after being in the fridge for 3 days. Review was made from out-of-the-fridge cold to room temp warm. Enjoyed over several cigarettes, a few episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and many losing games of Call of Duty (thanks dogfish head :P)

Appearance- black as night, edges are dark red/brown. Very little carbonation. not much of a head, but medium dark/tan bubbles. Decent lacing....don't care, let's drink it.

Smell- fresh dipped paint brush (that's a new one), slight cardboard, coconut rum, black cherry, liquor dominant. No chocolate or coffee like I'm used to in stouts/imperial stouts...none at all...mayyyybe dark chocolate...a little

Taste- Woooaahh-hoo-hoo....this is a slow sipper! Somewhat pleasant, but extremely unique. Definitely dark cherry/currant (the little red berry thing) and rum (still want to say coconut). I honestly taste paint (not that I've tasted paint before) like a tingly, pungent, funky-ness. There's a fore-front taste that I can't pinpoint, but semi-sweet, dark fruit. The thing to keep in mind though is how well the 18% abv his hidden. Definitely taste it, but not nearly as much as expected.

Mouthfeel- very sweet. Like drinking a very dark, lightly carbonated fruity-tropical mixed drink.

Overall- I'm almost afraid of this beer. Very unique. It's like a really cute puppy...you hate it when it craps on the rug, but there's something about it you love. I'm really glad I tried this beer. I'll probably buy one more bottle (for $10) and save it for an occasion. It's always worth buying one of the dogfish head Hazard cap beers...even if its 10 bucks for a bottle. This is not a stout in my opinion, but a different genre of beer altogether, compliments given to the brewers in that aspect. Try it. Cheers!

Finally got my hands on a bottle of this stuff. Poured into a snifter; oily brown pour, jet black in the glass with a very minimal brown head that fades into nothing very soon. Huge nose; roasted malt and bourbon, booze and dark fruits are everywhere. Taste is just as mind-shattering as my first sip of BCBS was; and I'd say this equals BCBS in taste, although it's a bit different. That sweet banana-bourbon flavor is everywhere, along with dark raisin-like fruit tastes, and alcohol plays a large role (no surprise, at 15%-20%). Finish is darkly roasted malts hidden behind the sticky sweet flavors on top. Mouthfeel is smooth, sticky and full. Stellar.

Poured from 12oz bottle into snifter glass.

A: Pitch black with very minimal head that left almost no lacing. This beer is dark enough in color that no light penetrates it.

S: Big roasted malts, fruits like raisin, date, fig mixed with chocolates. Partly reminded me of really nice dark bread. Alcohol is up front here also.

T: Roasted flavors dominate. Dark fruits, chocolates. Reminds me a bit of chocolate oatmeal. Alcohol is apparent but adds to the experience. Nice sipper. Lots of similarities to BCBS minus the bourbon flavors. A bourbon aged version of this would be an interesting compare.

M: Very thick and full bodied. Almost a bit syrupy. Very little carbonation but to be expected with the high ABV.

O: A very big stout. Lots of complexity to the flavors, and a texture that complements it. Not something I want to drink every day, but a really nice treat once in a while.
