Notes:
Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, World Wide Stout is dark, rich, roasty and complex. This Ageable Ale clocks in at 15-20% ABV and has a depth more in line with a fine port than with a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer.

This brew finally made its way to Northern California and I was more than happy to shell out the nine bucks to get a taste! Poured from a 12oz bottle into a beautiful Surly Darkness tulip.
This beer poured deep deep brown, really more black, but not as motor oil as I expected A small crown of tan bubbles were on top and proved to have significant legs as I drank the beer down.
I must admit, I'm a little put off by the nose. The maltiness is overwhelming, making for an almost acrid soy sauce blast. Though, to be fair, I do get a hint of vanilla sweetness that maybe hints at the true character of the beer.
Near perfect mouthfeel! I love a thick, chewy stout and this one doesn't disappoint. On that note, however, the thickness isn't overwhelming and makes for a pleasant experience. The carb bite is minimal, and really complimentary for the overall enjoyment of the beer.
After the nose on the beer, I am frankly surprised at how sweet this beer is! There is a caramel hit immediately impressed and that soy sauce that I suspected was nowhere to be found. After the sweet, the roasted flavors came through and that toasted barley made for a wonderful drinking partner. There is some heat from the alcohol but it is surprisingly mild considering the ABV.
While this guy is definitely a sipper considering its mind numbing ABV. It also is particularly easy to quaff. Maybe all that booze is going to my head, but I think I'd like another.

Finally got my hands on a bottle of this stuff. Poured into a snifter; oily brown pour, jet black in the glass with a very minimal brown head that fades into nothing very soon. Huge nose; roasted malt and bourbon, booze and dark fruits are everywhere. Taste is just as mind-shattering as my first sip of BCBS was; and I'd say this equals BCBS in taste, although it's a bit different. That sweet banana-bourbon flavor is everywhere, along with dark raisin-like fruit tastes, and alcohol plays a large role (no surprise, at 15%-20%). Finish is darkly roasted malts hidden behind the sticky sweet flavors on top. Mouthfeel is smooth, sticky and full. Stellar.

Poured from 12oz bottle into snifter glass.
A: Pitch black with very minimal head that left almost no lacing. This beer is dark enough in color that no light penetrates it.
S: Big roasted malts, fruits like raisin, date, fig mixed with chocolates. Partly reminded me of really nice dark bread. Alcohol is up front here also.
T: Roasted flavors dominate. Dark fruits, chocolates. Reminds me a bit of chocolate oatmeal. Alcohol is apparent but adds to the experience. Nice sipper. Lots of similarities to BCBS minus the bourbon flavors. A bourbon aged version of this would be an interesting compare.
M: Very thick and full bodied. Almost a bit syrupy. Very little carbonation but to be expected with the high ABV.
O: A very big stout. Lots of complexity to the flavors, and a texture that complements it. Not something I want to drink every day, but a really nice treat once in a while.
