Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial Stout |  18.00% ABV

Availability: Rotating. bottle (1429), on-tap (104), growler (2), nitro-tap (2), cask (1)

Notes:
Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, World Wide Stout is dark, rich, roasty and complex. This Ageable Ale clocks in at 15-20% ABV and has a depth more in line with a fine port than with a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer.

This is nice! Pours a really deep opaque coffee brown leaning slightly towards red. an actually really unexpected nice dark tan head as well that recedes pretty quickly leaving clouds on top

Smells heavily of dark fruits and dark chocolate. almost "belgian-like" in the fruity notes. moderately heavy alcohol hitting the nose as well. Smells incredibly flavorful, and incredibly unique as well.

Wow, tastes like some kind of massive chocolate stout-quadrupel hybrid. Super-intense dark fruits wrapped thickly in smooth chocolate. Quite a lot of sweetness too, and the blend between sweet fruits and bitter chocolate/roasted malts is just beautifully executed. I don't know if I'm crazy but it tastes very belgian. Alcohol is certainly present to a desirable level, but how they managed to tame it to this degree is amazing. It burns at about the level of an average belgian quad. Very, very good taste. There is nothing else out there like it!

This is just an incredibly smooth and thick beer and yet the carbonation comes through wonderfully. It is both thick and dark, crisp and refreshing. Regarding drinkability-- you'd better only have one of these. However, it is such a rewarding experience to drink that yes, I do consider it extremely "drinkable!" There is seriously nothing else like this beer that I've experienced. I will be getting several more of these when I get the chance!

A-I won't make any metaphor for how black it is. Can't get any darker. Head is fizzy and starts big but dies down to a thin crown of tight bubbles. Thin webs of lacing.

S-So much roast and charred molasses. Smells like port almost. Dried figs and what not. Like a big, boozy Raisinette. I swear it smells a bit like barbeque sauce. Chocolate is secondary to all the other aromas...age did this well.

T-The flavor is just a blast of Port, dark fruit, char, coffee, chocolate and BBQ sauce. I love how the fruity flavors are so stressed. The age has made all the flavors coexist and morph into a syrupy, sweet, complex explosion of flavor.

M-Legitimately heavy on the tongue. Sappy, chewy, sticky. Carbonation is fading. The booze has integrated very well after nearly four years.

O/D-Glad I tried this with some extended age. Its really cool and very unique. Don't think I'd like this fresh. However, now this is one hell of a beer. One of the best DFH beers.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled 11/17/09.

Appearance - Pours black and a but transparent at the edge. Lots of chunks at the bottom of this bottle. Very leggy.

Smell - Super vinous. Raisins, port, deep red wine. Lots of sugars. Slight chocolate roast. Boozy.

Taste - A lot more chocolate than the nose. Still very fruity. Winey. Like port and chocolate. Raisins and oxidation. Sweet and boozy.

Mouthfeel - Surprisingly dry. Sweet as hell and medium low carbonation.

Overall - Never loved this fresh, but this is really good. Complex port and red wine flavors.

2007 Vintage and I had a similar experience as a previous reviewer had with this 2007 aged till 2013.

appearance: solid black no head to speak of and no lacing

smell: raisins and a little spice, it reminds me of a bad jail-house mead I made a few years back

taste: pretty sure this has gone south, sweet upfront followed by raisins and astringent, little (very little) alcohol bite on the way down, nothing redeeming at all and its getting worse by the sip.

mouthfeel: thick and coating, little bite towards the end

overall; I know this is a good beer, I have had them aged before but only a year or two, 6 years + has done this one in, I would say of you have one that's hitting the four year mark I would pop it. The higher overall rating is because I know this can be a good beer, just not aged for over 5 years.
