Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial Stout |  18.00% ABV

Availability: Rotating. bottle (1433), on-tap (105), growler (2), nitro-tap (2), cask (1)

Notes:
Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, World Wide Stout is dark, rich, roasty and complex. This Ageable Ale clocks in at 15-20% ABV and has a depth more in line with a fine port than with a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer.

Pours a viscous like black with an inch or so frothy tan head, which takes its time subsiding into the big dark body. The traces of lacing are not significant, but very thick and there is also a constant, thin head that lasts throughout the beer.

Smells. . . . intimidating. OK, seriously, holy cow, big time coffee aroma, barley, perhaps a hint of something woody, and a big sweet alcohol aroma.

This beer kicks you in the mouth, but oddly. . . you want to be kicked again. Big sweet, dark fruit flavors, like dates mixed with the sweetness of dark chestnuts. Again a big roasted coffee aroma, becoming more noticeable as it warms, and as the bottle promises, generous barley.

This brew is thick & chewy, with a mean, yet sweet alcohol burn on the back of the throat, and after all of this, I'm not sure where the carbonation even falls. This is really an awesome beer in terms of having a diverse palate that challenges the senses, and is truly unique.

Drinkability is certainly questionable. It's an absolutely great beer in a weird sort of palate masochism kind of way, but I'm certainly not drinking more than one (in one sitting). If basing scores on creativity and enjoyment, this would be an A+, but regardless, this is a must try, a few times.

Finally got my hands on a bottle of this stuff. Poured into a snifter; oily brown pour, jet black in the glass with a very minimal brown head that fades into nothing very soon. Huge nose; roasted malt and bourbon, booze and dark fruits are everywhere. Taste is just as mind-shattering as my first sip of BCBS was; and I'd say this equals BCBS in taste, although it's a bit different. That sweet banana-bourbon flavor is everywhere, along with dark raisin-like fruit tastes, and alcohol plays a large role (no surprise, at 15%-20%). Finish is darkly roasted malts hidden behind the sticky sweet flavors on top. Mouthfeel is smooth, sticky and full. Stellar.

Poured from 12oz bottle into snifter glass.

A: Pitch black with very minimal head that left almost no lacing. This beer is dark enough in color that no light penetrates it.

S: Big roasted malts, fruits like raisin, date, fig mixed with chocolates. Partly reminded me of really nice dark bread. Alcohol is up front here also.

T: Roasted flavors dominate. Dark fruits, chocolates. Reminds me a bit of chocolate oatmeal. Alcohol is apparent but adds to the experience. Nice sipper. Lots of similarities to BCBS minus the bourbon flavors. A bourbon aged version of this would be an interesting compare.

M: Very thick and full bodied. Almost a bit syrupy. Very little carbonation but to be expected with the high ABV.

O: A very big stout. Lots of complexity to the flavors, and a texture that complements it. Not something I want to drink every day, but a really nice treat once in a while.
