American Double / Imperial IPA |  9.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round. bottle (2906), on-tap (336), growler (31), cask (10), nitro-tap (1)

Notes:
Esquire Magazine calls our 90 Minute IPA "perhaps the best IPA in America." An imperial IPA best savored from a snifter, 90 Minute has a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate.

90 Minute IPA was the first beer we continuously hopped, allowing for a pungent -- but not crushing -- hop flavor.

Dogfish 90 min IPA is a great beer has been for a long time. I was amazed at how well balanced it is. The smell is very hoppy and awesome, however the taste is balanced with big malt flavor. Even at 9% abv it is very drinkable and has a nice finish that wants you to go back for more. If you are afraid of IPAs and hops try this beer it will change your mind and taste.

On tap at the The Loft on the LMU Campus
a- golden, no head
s- a little malty and a little hoppy
t- cool sparky taste thats bubbly and sharp. Very hoppy and bitter but only lasts a second, which makes it half cool. Disguises the alcohol fairly well and minimal lingering bitterness.
m- its got a hard alcohol feel to it. Not very smooth.
o- Ultimately, no floral/ piny/ citrus notes. Which is the only reason why I hunt for IPAs. Not bad if you want a heavy alcohol beer with limited aftertaste.

Served on tap at the Ginger Man in South Norwalk CT.

Pours amber colored. Some foam rings around. Lighter on top. Can see through. Very faint smell, tough to pick up much. Hops if anything. All hop bitter taste - hard and long lasting. Some balance, but struggles to hold it. Juicy at first. Not sure this is better than the 60.

Draft at my favorite taphouse: Fishale.

A: deep copper, hazy, darker than a lot of IPAs. Creamy offwhite head.

S: spicy hops and caramel malt.

T: In my experience, DIPAs either lean toward a citrus fruit or caramel flavor spectrum. This one is a great (perhaps the best) example of the latter. Yes there are hops, but I feel like the malt character of this beer steals the show. It's sweet, rich caramel and fresh baked biscuits all day long. The hops dart playfully in and out but are never rude or overbearing. The alcohol only shows up as the faintest tingle in the throat. It doesn't get much better than this.

M: Creamy and satisfying, but light enough to drink with a meal.

O: One of my all time favorites. A masterpiece that I never get tired of drinking.

On tap at MacGregors in Amherst NY, poured into a 6oz glass

A: Golden Straw/Mild Amber Hue, Passes Most Light, White Head, Great Lacing

S: Floral, Sweet Bread, Mild Resin

T: Sweet Bread, Floral, Mild Resin, Mild Crackers

M: Great Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Sweet, Mildly Drying

Overall, the maltiness is a little sweet and the hops kind of get buried in the background but overall good.

"Perhaps the best IPA in America."

That is a very bold statement, yet it seems a case for Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA can easily be made. The brew pours a dark copper color, and is clear, with a creamy white head topping it off. Grapefruit
and other citrus aromas burst from the glass and are met with some piney notes as well as caramel and toffee. Malty sweetness greets the pallet, with hints of brown sugar and caramel leading the way before citrus and piney hop flavors superbly balance things out. Amazingly balanced, this brew is moderately carbonated and medium in body. Perhaps....

Cheers!

On tap at the Dogfish Head Restaurant BB on randle. The randle gives this an unfair advantage on this tasting. None-the-less this is a quality beer. Color is a deep brown with nice head and good lacing. Cascade hops in the randle - exteremely floral. Sweet taste - caramel, molasses, floral hops. This a great beer.

Not much that needs to be said about this one. I found this one to be remarkably smooth for an IIPA. The deep golden body and frothy white head look nice and the fruity, hoppy blast deliver as an IIPA should, but it's that silky smooth sip that makes this one extra nice. You're never going to pucker despite the high IBU. Great beer!

Orangish-copper in appearance with little head but some nice lacing anyway. There is a distinct fresh hop nose. This offering has a slightly sweet malt flavor upfront followed by a blast of hop bitterness that lingers long into the finish. This is a spectacular beer - the perfect combination of malt and strong hop flavors. My personal #1 DIPA - the only question is: do I like the bottled or on-tap version best.

On Tap at the River rd tavern.
Pours a deep amber color with a fluffy white head that persists for a while. Smells of hops, lots of pine and citrus with a solid bready and caramel base to round things out. Taste is pleasingly bitter with lots of bitter citrus and pine atop a solid caramel malt base. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick resinous mouthfeel. Nice IPA, a bit on the malty side, but very nice going down the gullet.

Had on tap at Cafe Za in Alfred:

A-Beautiful orange with head that lasts like a pillowy cloud of awesome

S-Citrus, pine all in line

T-Off the charts, this is it for me in the DIPA category

M-Amazing, perhaps my favorite aspect of this beer is the mouth

O-There aren't many guys I'd leave my lovely wife for, Brad Pitt, Tom Brady, Springsteen, but Sam Calagione is quickly rising up the charts

A: White head stays there forever! Otherwise hazy light amber.
S: Floral notes come through. Not overly complicated but not bad.
T: Really great taste. Floral, sweet at first. A nice bitter warm finish.
M: Perfect mouthfeel. Sits with a good body, no harsh flavors or aftertastes, and the perfect amount of carbonation.

Overall just a really great brew. For an IPA it had the perfect amount of bitterness combined with other flavors.

Nice looking DIPA. Low carb and small head. More pine than others, and def balanced. Powdery sweet malt, and a slight dryness from somewhere. Way more balance than I was expecting. Reminds me Great Divide Hercules, but more hops. The hops lean toward pine, but flashes toward citrus. Pine needles take over the grapefruit.

Had this on tap at Trinity Brewing in Colorado Springs...

Body was amber with a white head.

The aroma indicated citrus hop smells and malt notes.

The taste came across with a malt sweetness with a bitter bite. It finished clean and dry with a noticeable alcohol character.

Overall, this is highly respectable IPA.

The 90 Minute IPA from Dogfish Head is simply fantastic. Having a pint of it, it was a very nice amber color with a thick head. The aroma is very complex, some definite citrus hops up front with a strong sweet caramel malt hint. Very smooth though. Easily one of the best IPAs I've ever had. Maltier than others I've had, but I found this to be a good thing. Warmed me up, highly recommend trying it on-tap.

A: Poured a nice hazel brown that had nice head and left behind some nice sticky lacing down the whole glass.

S: Huge hops, some nice piney notes. Smells like it has a nice malty base that mixes in some sweet caramel.

T: Nice hops as the nose leads. Nice piney resin with great bitterness, nothing overpowering. extremely well balanced with the sweet malts and caramel.

M: Medium bodied, well carbonated with execptional balance. Great bitterness and resin mouthfeel.

O: Great IPA, hard to believe this is 9% because there is no boozey taste to this. Nice blend of hops and malts. Great showing for the DIPA

On tap at DFH Alehoise in Falls Church.
Nice golden crisp looking with a bit of head.
Great citrus pineapple aroma.
Taste is of crisp hops with a bit of citrus. Nice bitter hop bite.
Smooth finish and high abv makes this a great DIPA. I have had this so many times, so its about time to review; although this review doesn't do it justice. Seems like the entire world has had this by now, and rightly so. Cheers!

Lovely lacing from my 16oz pour. Deep golden amber body. Looks like a glass of cream soda with tight carbonation.

Earthy/citrus hops all up in this hizzy. Bready malts are substantially there. Resinous and green. Very benign, yet most dee-lish.

Big hop zing with a spice note. Dark bread, a little grapefruit, some burnt sugars. Bitterness is medium-high. Some buckwheat honey sweetness intermingling. Nice touch of alcohol in the finish.

Creamy mouthfeel with a sudsy tongue-scrub. Solid.

A well-respected DIPA (for good reason) that will never disappoint. I prefer it in bottle. Always hard to pass up.

Pours a nice amber color with a thick white head. The aroma is very complex, some definite citrus hops up front with a strong sweet caramel malt backbone and a touch of smokiness. This glass/keg also had a bit of diacetyl which the server warned me about. I can detect it only because he alerted me to it's presence, I probably would have written the butterscotch off as hops+caramel. The taste is very smooth and complex. The hop forwardedness of the nose is balanced on the palate with the strong malt character and a touch of warming alcohol. The mouthfeel is silky smooth and exactly what I am looking for in a DIPA. Overall this is a really nice beer, a bit maltier than other DIPAs I have had (Pliny, Mycenery) but very nice.

On-tap at By the Bottle in Vancouver, WA.

appearance - amber/orange, transparent, medium head, generous lacing

smell - sweet caramel malts

taste - big flavor profile, sweet malts with layers of hop complexity mixed in, pine, grapefruit, spice

mouthfeel - full body, medium carbonation

overall - after years of drinking craft brew i had avoided this in favor of west coast style hop forward ipas, however having got to try this on tap rather than a bottle for the first time i gave it a shot, amazing brew!

I have this beer on tap and it is great. I am not usually a big IPA kind of guy but this beer I really like. Usually hops on an IPA will hit my stomach and I cannot keep drinking them. This beer is different.

A-small head but nice lace on the glass

S-It has a nice hop aroma without being too bitter. Good balance

T-Similar to the smell - good balance. Not to harsh like some IPA's

M-Ignoring the taste the feel is just a bit above average.

Overall I really like this beer (hence why I have it on tap)...I can't say enough about the taste of this beer.

Have had on-tap and in bottles many times. First had when I was not even legal drinking age. Pours a lovely dark golden color with a red hue on the peripheral. Small off-white head that fizzles away quickly. Ring of bubbles stays, but not much in terms of lacing. Aroma of citrus, pine, grass and light spices. Tastes of citrus, earthy hops, resinous pine and a slight bit of sweetness.

Mouthfeel is medium in body with a dry finish and bitter profile. Lingers on the palate. Moderate carbonation. I am sure I will have this many more times!

On-Tap

Appearance – Slightly hazy copper colour with a large size fizzy off-white coloured head. It's hard to make out the level of carbonation and there is a good amount of lacing. The head hung around for longer than average.

Smell - Malts, hops, caramel, grapefruit, pineapple

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel, and hops. There is also some grapefruit and pineapple flavour. I can pick up on the booze as well. It ends with a sweet pineapple and bitter hop aftertaste.

Overall – It would be nice if the alcohol was a little more hidden and it was a touch less sweet, but it's still a fantastic DIPA.

A- ohhh wow. Yeah this is a pretty 2x ipa. It has a deep, clean orange body and tight white head that last for 2 minutes or so then makes its way to the edge of the glass. TONS of lacing!

S- definitely some pungent hop aroma going on here. I would guess columbus and simcoe. Slightly astringent smelling, it has some over-ripe lemon and cannabis elements to it. There's a touch ofalcohol in there, but not a lot. This barrel was aged 6 months, or so I was told. Lots going on, but its slightly too chaotic and has a little trouble melding together.

T- nice, powerful flavor right away. Very bitter body with some immediate caramel malt sweetness. The hops take over the middle and end with notes of old pine, sour apple, grapefruit, and a slightly off catty-like flavor. This is often due to the use of simcoe hops and isn't for everyone. I don't mind it much. This has some nice flavors. Could be a little more hop flavored than bitter, imo.

M- medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. It has a very slick, oily mouthfeel likely due to the alcohol and hop resins.

O- this has always been on of my favorite 2x ipa's. While it may not be the most complex, it certainly isn't one dimensional. Slightly over hyped, I think, but still a classic.

Enjoyed at a local college bar with a few slices of pepperoni pizza.

A - Two finger head that sticks well. Lovely amber, hazy color.

S - A pungent, bitter aroma. Hops are very up front.

T/M - Sweet and hoppy. This is the kind of feeling I have come to crave, and I tend to use Dogfish Head as an exemplar for other beers in its class. Wonderful mouthfeel; bitter and strong.

O - My foray into IPAs has been a promising one, and this beer has kept me interested. Order a glass, a slice, and some CCR on the jukebox, and you're living in bliss. Just take heed if you're a skinny guy. This beer will catch up fast.

Currently in search of the 120 Minute.
