Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial IPA |  9.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round. bottle (2919), on-tap (337), growler (31), cask (10), nitro-tap (1)

Notes:
Esquire Magazine calls our 90 Minute IPA "perhaps the best IPA in America." An imperial IPA best savored from a snifter, 90 Minute has a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate.

90 Minute IPA was the first beer we continuously hopped, allowing for a pungent -- but not crushing -- hop flavor.

4.5/5  rDev +4.9%
look: 3.5 | smell: 5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5

Highlights:
-Beautiful golden/amber color
-Excellent hop nose. Perfectly floral.
-Bitterness is evident but not overpowering at all. The aftertaste is sublime- relish in the hops.

Additional Notes:
-Not quite as bitter as I expected. This beer is more hopped for the aroma and flavor than the bitterness aparrently. It might even seem closer to a hopped up barleywine than an IPA for me, but perhaps this is the definition of an Imperial IPA.
-Head dissipated and left no lace, hence the 3.5 on appearance. I think appearance is more of a bonus factor when reviewing beers, this one just didn't grab that bonus, other than the beautiful color, it was not spectacular.

The bottom line:
A must try for those who love that the sweet nectar of flowery hops.

A - One of the darkest IPAs I've ever had. Amber, with a reddish hue. Solid two finger head with very good retention (1/2 finger head even to the end of the glass!). Beautiful lacing all up and down the glass. Translucent.

S - Very mild for a DIPA. Citrus and hops, but no strong grapefruit or orange peel like I'm so used to in an IPA.

T - Super smooth and malty; wow! Yeah, it's a hop bomb, but the balance is maybe the best I've ever had in an IPA. Huge, huge malt profile, but nothing undesirable at all. Creamy. Citrus and pulp. Absolutely amazing.

M - I repeat: smooth and creamy. A bit of alcohol and carbonation sting, but very drinkable. Cloying as the beer warms slightly.

O - This beer surprised me. I've had DFH 60, and I kind of expected a hoppier version. While technically true, the amazing balance with the huge malt load absolutely shocked me.

Bottled 5/30/13, so pretty damn fresh!

First review so went with what is easily my favorite "easy to find" IPA.

A - Amber with Golden Hue, great clarity with nice thick head.
S - As expected, Big Hops but not all hops..some nice sweetness in there. A deep breath brings a pleasant tang to back of throat that makes my mouth water.
T - Nice and hoppy but also very creamy with citrus kick.
M - To me the feel is what makes this IPA better then so many of the other, really good IPA's that are out there right now. Like drinking whole milk at the perfect temp, this beer is to easy to drink to much of.
O - Great IPA, the very best you can expect to ever find sharing space with the masses in a grocery store.

Poured in draft into snifter.

A: Dark golden color with nice fluffy white head that leaves nice lacing behind.

S: Lots of hops and earthiness mixed with light sweet malts.

T: Pine and citrus flavors from the hops balanced nicely with the richness and sweetness from the malts. This is my kind of IPA. More going on here than just hop bomb.

M: Nice body and good carbonation. Refreshing to drink...

O: Fantasic beer. Makes me reconsider drinking IPA more often.

I don't consider myself a beer reviewer, but I figured I would put down my honest opinion as it seems to be the thing to do. Bear in mind this is my first day on BA.

To be honest I don't care for IPA's, most of the I don't go back for a second one,the only reason I am drinking them regularly these days is in the hope of "refining my palete." That being said I find myself enjoying this beer enough to the point of helping myself to a secnod one.

The main problem I have with most IPA's is they linger to much on my palate with a bitter aftertaste, 90 minute doesn't do that. It's bitter up front then tapers off leaving me wanting another sip.

All in all, I will keep drinking this beer and I think it will make a good stepping stone for me to keep drinking IPA's.

Edit: originally made reference to 60 minute, meant to write 90. Fixed now.
