A - Opens with a pop and pours a molten gold stream until it forms a beautiful 3-fingered, cavernous, bubbling head. Retention is okay, it built more head than I thought and held onto it just how I expected for the alcohol. Body is a light copper with orange highlights, definitely harkening back to an IPA in that sense. Thanks to the head, it actually has a ton of lacing which is a nice extra touch.

S - Smell is certainly interesting... it's a bit confusing as IPAs are usually recommended fresh, so picking up oak and vanilla notes mixed with the IPA offerings is a bit unusual. The predominant smells with this beer are actually the oak, vanilla, and smoked flavors, with the citrus hops taking a back seat. Getting a bit excited for this...

T - The taste doesn't fail to deliver either. It's a bit interesting, as it kind of reminds me of a hoppier barleywine. The malts up front are very sweet, and the oak and vanilla linger. Getting some hints of honey in the aftertaste, where the bitterness shines. Getting little of the citrus found in the nose until the very end and it is apparent in the finish. I really like how this one came together.

M - Mouthfeel is heavy with medium carbonation. The finish is sticky and coats the mouth while many of the flavors come through in the long finish.

D - Drinkability is moderately high. The mix between the flavors keeps everything fresh and complex, while the 10% ABV is hidden incredibly well. The only thing I could see detracting from this beer is the overly sweet front-end.

A: poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass, dark orange colored with a large yellow white head that lingers leaving good lacing, clear

S: oak, wood, vanilla, pine hops, citrus, leather, earth, heavy alcohols and esters

T: slightly sweet up front with a nice malty quality, quickly changes to dry oak flavors, wood, vanilla, cherry wood, heavy piney hop finish of a DIPA

M: full bodied, slightly oily, alcohol well hidden, good carbonation

O: this fusion of styles is cleverly obtained by blending two beers instead of sacrificing qualities of one or the other, an intriguing version of a style that sets itself apart from others, barrel aging a DIPA sounds like a bad idea but DFH found a way to make it work well

Bottle Poured in a tulip shaped glass

A: Dark amber with a thick white head when poured aggressive. The lacing is maintained when tilting the glass.

S: citrusy, hoppy, floral, earthy,

T: Notes of Oak Wood and vanilla with a strong hop presence.

M: moderate carbonation and medium bodied.

O: Overall, this is by far one of my favorites Imperial IPA. It has a nice rich and complex taste blended very well. For a 10% ABV, this is a very smooth beer. Each sip I discover different tastes, and its very, very smooth. I still can't believe its a 10%. IF you see this, BUY IT & TRY IT.
