Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial IPA |  10.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round. bottle (1487), on-tap (79), growler (4), nitro-tap (2), cask (1)

Notes:
This oak-aged gentle giant has been gaining popularity over the past few years and is now available year-round.

For Burton Baton, we brew two "threads," or batches, of beer: an English-style old ale and an imperial IPA.

After fementating the beers separately in our stainless tanks, they're transferred and blended together in one of our large oak tanks. Burton Baton sits on the wood for about a month.

When enjoying the Burton Baton, you'll find an awesome blend of the citrus notes from Northwestern hops melding with woody, vanilla notes from the oak. The wood also tends to mellow the 10% ABV of Burton, so tread cautiously!

12oz bottle poured into a DFH Signature

Bottled 4/6/11

A: I’d describe the color as amber gold. Pours with a lofty 2+ finger head that settles to a nice cap with beautiful lacing.

S: Mellow oak and citrusy hops. Some grassy character is evident. Pretty straight-forward for the style as advertised. No alcohol odor present which is interesting for a 10% -bal DIPA.

T: Oh, this is nice. I’ve had this fresh and the oak flavor is way too dominating, but this has mellowed nicely. The remaining hop flavor is smooth as can be and excellently balanced with the malt profile. Plenty of citrus here with subdued bitterness. Alcohol is tucked away nicely.

M: Slightly more than medium body. Above average carbonation and it works for me. The drinkability is crazy for a 10% beer...I inadvertently drank more than half of my glass typing this up.

O: Wow. I haven’t had many regular DIPAs that were this well balanced, let alone a barrel-aged DIPA. Most DIPAs become cloying malt bombs. Eight months in the bottle and the Burton Baton has come together nicely. The standard for oak-aged IPAs.
