Notes:
This oak-aged gentle giant has been gaining popularity over the past few years and is now available year-round.
For Burton Baton, we brew two "threads," or batches, of beer: an English-style old ale and an imperial IPA.
After fementating the beers separately in our stainless tanks, they're transferred and blended together in one of our large oak tanks. Burton Baton sits on the wood for about a month.
When enjoying the Burton Baton, you'll find an awesome blend of the citrus notes from Northwestern hops melding with woody, vanilla notes from the oak. The wood also tends to mellow the 10% ABV of Burton, so tread cautiously!

Bought fresh, while this particular bottle was tasted about a month and a half after purchase.
Pours a hazy burnt orange with a 2-finger white head. Retention and lacing is superb, as expected.
The nose, like many have said before, it a touch 90-min-like with its malty bready caramel vibe. In fact, with the 6 weeks of age it has, it has become even more 90-min-like than when I remember having it fresh. I think, though, that character is hitting a peak and the beer will turn into something entirely different with more months of age. Filling in the voids are moderately aged hoppy tones of dry fruits- apricots, mangos, pineapples- a bit of booziness, some oakiness (showing more than when fresh) and lots of floral character.
The palate is full-bodied and creamy, with loads of toffee flavor soaking the big bitterness with hoppy flavors of dark citrus and ripe leaves (think autumn time when the leaves have fallen and are slightly wet and rotten, sounds gross but is a totally good thing). Even better is how the toffee sweetness is the biggest up front and dries out through the long finish. As it fades to a light caramel, the texture shows more of the slickness and resinous hoppy character, while the caramel becomes lean and oaky on the drier finish with more flavors of earthy leaves, oaky spice and baked tropical fruits with a lingering mouthwatering, oaky bite.
All I can say is that I can't wait for this to age even longer. Structurally awesome with very interesting flavors that will only get more refined as it sits. I'm coming back to this one in a little more than a year.
