NOTE: I have a cold. Just throwing that out there.
Served on-tap at Terry's Terrace at a pretty pricey $8.50 a pint.
Appearance: Not much to it -- a pretty light color with basically no head -- lacing is almost completely non-existent, though it's what I expected. Meh.
Smell: I don't usually get much on aroma in most beers (especially out of a shaker pint), so it's hard for me to give specifics, but I really just got a lot of herbal grapes without much else.
Taste/feel: Quite a bit like the smell ... but it's not as nice on the taste buds. Truthfully, an odd beer. Like I said, I DO have a minor cold, but I can still taste mostly fine. It just tastes like grape juice with herbs for the most part. That's just not my bag. I don't get much malt tastes specifically, just a lot of the fruitiness and sweetness. It's drinkable for sure, and the alcohol is COMPLETELY unnoticeable, but I don't think I'd try it again. The feel is solid with a nice carbonation, but it's never harsh, so the beer goes down easily.
Midas Touch is a beer I've been interested in trying, so I'm glad to have had it, but it's just too much for me.. I find that it almost drinks like a high ABV wine cooler. Drinkable, yes, worth the price, hell no. Of course, that's just one guy's opinion. If you're a wine drinker, you'd enjoy this one quite a bit. If you're in the mood for a BEER, then order something else.

Served on tap at Mugs Alehouse in Brooklyn, NY
A: Pours a clear straw pale yellow with a thin white head that reduces to a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light lacing is observed.
S: The aroma is very sweet, just shy of being cloyingly sweet. You can definitely get some hints of muscat grape - kind of similar in the sweet smell to a dessert wine.
T: There is a lot of sweetness in this beer, definitely contributed from the muscat grape and honey used in the brewing. In addition to the sweetness, I do detect a little hint of saffron.
M: Light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.
O: Too sweet for me - I guess this might be a nice dessert offering (like a dessert wine) but I'm not much of a sweet tooth. This is a beer that you only want/need to sip a small amount to enjoy.

Had this on tap at Coles in Buffalo, NY at their Dogfish Head tap takeover.
I like that this beer exhists and appreciate that a brewery went to the lengths they did to bring it to fruition.
When I was pouring this beer for samples I was surprised by how carbonated it was, being that so much honey was used and how complete fermentation is with honey.
This is an earthy beer with unexpected flavors: saffron, overripe fruit, and mead. It has a slicker mead like mouthfeel and has that initial sweetness but finishes dry and tidy.
Not an everyday beer but an interesting bottle to bring to a dinner party or to buy and ponder over.

Served on-tap and into a snifter glass.
A: Light golden hue, very minimal carbonation with a very light head.
S: The first thing that hits me is a strong grape like character with a hint of sweet honey and saffron.
T: Very smooth and wine-like. The grape and honey hits you right off the bat and then the buttery alcohol taste sets in a bit after along with the light spiciness of the saffron. The after taste is almost pure grape and honey.
M: Very light and wine-like as mentioned above.
O: Interesting beer. The wine-like characteristics really make this brew special.

Yellowish with a finger of fizzy head. Not much aroma to this offering. Fruit flavor up front and along with another sweet undertone that is difficult to place and slightly unpleasant. This is an interesting concept, but definitely NOT something I would repeat or recommend.

Just got the last 8 oz of a keg poured into a tulip. Had this beer last year in a bottle and was very impressed so expectations are high. Also, I experienced Chateau Jiahu that was a very enjoyable drinking experience.
A: Carbonation is excellent with a thick white head that won't quit. Stays for several minutes before barely thinning out. Cloudy haze of a orangish-yellow tint to the body.
S: Very potent wine aroma from grapes. Smells like it is going to be bubbly and fizzy on my tongue. Saffron is dominant as well which gives off an inviting spicy smell and I usually don't care too much for heavy spice but it seems more on the lighter side.
T: Oh my! I thought Chateau Jiahu was a delicious spice beer, but Midas takes the cake. Taste more like a beer probably why I like it while still maintaining some distinct wine properties. Sweet finish but lingers with dry notes making it even more enjoyable.
M: Fizzy carbonation comes at the very end of the swallow but only for a second before a rich sweetness takes over. A very light beer yet so complex in powerful flavors at the same time.
O: Excellent. If you have not had Midas Touch it is a must. Even if spice beers are not your thing or wine for that matter, this beverage is a must try.

Had Midas Touch 2009 on tap at Rattle-N-Hum in NYC; pours cloudy gold with a frothy 1 finger white head that faded slowly, leaving decent spotty lacing.
Smells of sweet malt, honey, caramel, light grains, alcohol, herbs, flowers and some floral hops; strong alcohol in the nose, which carried over into the flavor and was not very strong overall, unlike other Dogfish Head beers.
Tastes of sweet malt, brown sugar, honey, grass, coriander, hay, cinnamon, cumin, pepper and other earthy spices; there are light floral and citrus hops, but the sweetness makes this taste almost like a mead. The alcohol is present in the taste and the finish is on the tart and bitter side. It almost seems like this beer was aged in a clay jar, real old school style.
Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, with almost no carbonation, a heavy body and chewy heavy feel. This is a slow sipper, that was interesting and enjoyable, but probably my least favorite tastiing Dogfish Head beer to date. The aging may have made this even more like an old time beer, which while clever didn't do much for the flavor to me and made it almost seem stale.

Had an '09 on tap at Rattle and Hum's special DFH NYC event.
Served into a wide tulip.
Appears a golden color with a touch of orange. Some foamy head remains as fi rests against where it has subsided. Nit Belgian la e though... It's painted to the sides.
Smells fruity and of honey. Light smelling - not too much at all. A tiny bit of citrus creeps in with more tropical coming through.
Tastes of honey and candied fruits. Rather sweet - sweeter than 120 which gets knocked all the time by others.
Mouthfeel is crisp and clean. A nice sweet fade-out.
Overall really nice. I enjoyed having an '09 that's had a little time to cone into it's own.

Had gotten this beer for the first time on tap a tthe brewery after the tour. This beer poured out as a crystle clear golden yellow brew with a pretty nice looking head on it. The lacing was minimal but not bad. The smell of this beer had a lot of fresh white grape aromas in the nose, it's very sweet smelling. The taste had the same sweetness on the nose had some very subtle spice flavors throughout. The mouthfeel is medium bodied I think. Overall this beer could be seen as a Braggot or something similar. A spiced ale is fitting as well. I really enjoy this beer, but in small quantity. Very tasty stuff.

Churchill's Pub & Grille

A deep orange with a very thin white head. Not a lot of lacing, but still a pretty beer.
I smell white grape and a sugary sweetness, but little else. Pleasant, but simple and sweet.
Where the nose doesn't quite live up to expectations, I think this makes for an incredibly delicious beer...errr,wine,...or whatever we're calling this! It's a beautiful combination of white grapes and honey; though I don't taste any coriander, I'm not sure I want to. Regardless of whatever style this beer is, it's a delicious drink.
A relatively, thin wine-like mouthfeel. Not a ton of carbonation.
I really enjoyed this beer; I thought it was delicious. While somewhat thin in body and not overly aromatic, I thought it was delicious and a pleasure to drink.

A- medium gold with a one finger off white head that quickly goes away. Good carbonation, below average lacing. Very light colored.
S- Fruit, hops, malt, spice. Very underwhelming in the smell department.
T- Saffron is overwhelming. Not a bad tasting beer, but I'd like a little more complexity and alcohol in this brew. Nice light finish. Deceptive at 9%.
M- Very light feel to this brew. Fairly smooth, could drink several of these before the alcohol got me.
O- Decent brew, although not my favorite from this brewery. Worth trying out once though.

Enjoyed this beer @ Dogfish head Alehouse in Gaithersburg out of a snifter
A: A crisp hazy golden color ale with a very small white head that turns into a wispy white lace.
S: Hints of grape, honey, and saffron all blended together. A unique yet mild aroma that neither offends nor appetizers the nostrils.
T: A mildly sweet beer, with the honey, grapes, and saffron all present here. This beer starts off smooth and has a bite after about 5 seconds that stings with wonderful alcohol. I
M: Full body and light carbonation
O: This beer doesn’t disappoint. It has a unique flavor with a kind alcohol punch. A nice sipping beer.

Pours a light copper with a foamy white head. Lots of carbonation. Smells much like a saison or some other lighter spicy brew. There's saffron, grapes, and honey. Very light for this level of ABV. Hops are on the sweeter side. Interesting, but not my deal.

Had on tap at The Pickled Pig Pub
A: The beer is perfectly clear golden color with a small white head that dissipated quickly. Not much lacing left behind.
S: Honey, grapes, some spice, a little lemon. Very sweet.
T: Very sweet, a little overly sweet for my liking. The oney comes through as do the grapes. There is a little bit of spice, but that part is relatively faint. I can taste a bit of alcohol, more so as it warms.
M: Medium bodied and medium carbonation, relatively crisp, but cloyingly sweet. No alcohol heat, but could taste it a little.
O: Just not really my kind of beer. Have had this a few times and just can't get over the flavor/sweetness combination. It does taste a little better with some food though, probably because the food mutes some of the sweetness. I give DFH some credit for making this though, I really do like the concept behind it.

Appearance - Looks quite crisp and refreshing. Appears heavily carbonated with many bubbles rising to the top. The froth seems to clump to one side. It has poor lacing. Golden yellow.
Smell - Smells of light pink grapefruit; almost a bubblegum hint. Heavy notes of floral and slight hops as well. Quite a different smell.
Taste - It tastes like I am eating grapes and has many wine qualities. A slight berry taste that also has lager characteristics. Slight notes of pineapple as well with grape juice becoming towards the finish.
Mouthfeel / Drinkability - Light to medium bodied. Quite mellow tasting and the 9% ABV is hidden very well. Has qualities of wine and champagne.
SECOND REVIEW NOTES: On-tap once more at 101 Laundry.
Much more of a delicious malt to this offering. It's been a good six months since I've had this beer on tap. The malts and grains here are delicious and I get less of that grape taste. Still, it proves to be sot of a berry/wine type beer. I updated my review for taste on this one.

poured cold from Finch's tap to a 10oz goblet a semi translucent honey'd gold with a single finger off white foamy head lasting just a bit with nice lace.
big sweet, floral aroma, slighty citrus and lemon rind with a bit of spice.
spicy forward, sweet honey follows along with hints of tart citrus.
smooth and creamy, slick on the tongue with a bit of heat on the way down.
drinkable - yep.
one of my favorite beers, and interestingly a bit more spicy on tap that from the bottle.

A - Poured golden-yellow with a thin white head that hung around for some time. Definite stickiness left on the glass.
S - Sweet malt, honey, white wine grapes and golden raisins. Very unique in the beer world.
T - Quite sweet, with lots of honey, herbs, grapes and saffron. Again, so unique, you really know you aren't drinking a "normal" beer.
M - Slightly syrupy with a medium-heavy body and low carbonation.
D - Well, you aren't going to throw back a ton of these, it's definitely a sipper. Still, I really like this beer and applaud DFH for taking a chance on this amazing brew.

On tap at Gaithersburg alehouse.
A - White wine with a thin head. Very odd looking. Not what I expected.
S - Very sweet grape soda, with a touch of honey.
T - Sweetish grapey white wine flavor. White wine without the subsequent dryness. Honey, and perhaps a slight herbal taste from the saffron but that could be my mind filling it in.
MF - Somewhat syrupy, light carbonation.
D - Could have a few but probably would switch.
Absolutely must try this at least once. Very interesting - however, I struggle to call this a beer. It seems more like a low alcohol wine.
Also, I'd probably up the saffron as I cannot really detect it.
Very interesting, but I would never choose to drink a six pack of this or anything like that.

This is what I call a landslide beer. It starts great, but declines as the experience goes on.
first off, this is an ancient ale from the tomb of king midas, but that is not completely accurate, as a lot changes had to be made to make it a beer and not a slop. This makes the beer better than people were drinking thousands of years ago, but I think we should be drinking better beer than people who didn't know that yeast existed.
The color is a great golden ruby color with a good head.
It smells a little sweet, but very alluring with the grape smell coming to life.
It tastes a little too sweet for a beer, but still quite good, and the flavors are very prominant of honey and muscat grapes.
It is a little winey with a little alcohol burn. This gets worse if you get it in bottle, since the aromas aren't allowed to escape unless it sits a little while.
It is not very drinkable, because due to the sweetness and alcohol, if you do not take this with food, you may be choking down the last gulp. Lastly, DO NOT LET THIS BEER GET WARM!! It turns into a beast.

Pours a clear dark yellow and golden color with a thin white head that doesn't last very long
Aroma is of sweet malts, honey, floral spices and alcohol.
Taste is sweet upfront with lots of honey and some herbal/floral notes. I also get some white grapes and other faint citric notes.
Mouthfeel is very delicate and smooth, with a dry finish. Carbonation is on the lower side.

Excellent beer! Served with a nice, foamy, frothy, white head that lasts and good lacing. Color is a clear amber. Aroma is malt, sweet, vineous, Flavor is like nose, but far more rich - really pick up on the honey and grapes, saffron not so much.... perhaps a little in the bitterness. Body is full and lush with perfect. Finish is like flavor and actually fairly long, with the alcohol mellow.

Pours a hazy orange yellow color with a thin white head and good lacing. Smells of muscat grapes, saffron, white wine, malts. Godly. Tastes sweet from muscat grapes, saffron, some citrus. Hops are there but they only lighten the sweetness just a tad. Mouthfeel is exceptional and drinkability is insane. One could drink half a gallon. Not good for your liver that it tastes so awesome.

A: On tap from my local Dogfish Head Alehouse and served in a snifter. I couldn't accurately gauge how long it took for the bubbles to calm down or the head to level off since i wasn't actually able to watch them pour it, but there was still a finger of creamy almost-white head. Color was a rich golden copper.
S: I almost thought I had a glass of wine in front of me, thanks to the prominent hearty grape aromas. I can't say exactly what sort of grape, but it's comparable to some fine Shiraz I've had in the past.
T: Sweet and multilayered, this is not a beer for chugging or something to down in a few gulps. Take a small sip and let it play over your tongue so you can try and pick out what flavors present themselves. This isn't terribly bitter, but its alcohol content does feature prominently.
M: Clean and light, with no off-putting after-textures.
D: Midas touch occupies a space that straddles beer, mead and wine, and this is a great alternative beverage if you're accustomed to drinking those three and want a change. Not something I'd drink on a regular basis, but it's mighty tasty. An excellent choice for your next viking funeral or D&D match!
