My bottle says enjoy by 5/5/13, however I'm liking the dryness of the porter with a matching leafy herbal pale ale...that seems to be what this beer is all about the porter has much more ruby highlights than normal, basically a pre bottled version of a black and tan (or pale/stout and pale/golden ale). Labels aside I see a beautiful dark beer with tan textured lacing, very dark body almost opaque nearly black but with ruby highlights from the blending of tow styles. Nose takes on some earthy pine cone scented hops marriage with a dark black ale, the blend of the two beers brings some decadent tones to my senses. Flavors embrace the palate with malt complexity and herbal hops that's basically what's happening here not a bad stick in the bunch love you guys.

Date seems to be smudged off (I hope I didn't do that, have no clue when this expires, sorry):

Into a pint glass:

A: pitch black body with a one finger foamy off white head, the head dies after about a good thirty seconds, a moderate amount of sporadic light clingy lacing appears and eventually spider webs

S: light roasted malts with an ever so light amount of hops

T: smooth roastiness with some hops trying to make their presence, but really stay subdued, roasty aftertaste, dry sweet finish

M: light to medium, semi-sessionable, carbonation seems spot on for the style and for me

O: always a super hard style for me to review, but figured better get 'er done, wishing I would have been more careful with that bottle date that got smudged as it could've helped me gauge how old this was, I'd probably have again, but the black & tan style though most of them are lower ABV-ed tend to be more of a sipper for me - could be just be, not sure what it is of these little beasts

Hits the Duvel tulip with a decent khaki hued head, large bubbled and settling quickly over a deep brownish amber colored body...almost Coca-Cola like in appearance. The nose isn't too spectacular: light roasted malt with some sweetness backing it. I get a fruity/dark malt first impression, mild hopping, light bodied. Drinks easy, light roastiness and hop floweriness finishes it out. Goes down quick, tasty. Nice dark session ale here.

On draft at TJ Finley's, Bayshore, NY.

Poured a black hue with amber edges beneath a one finger foamy off white head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured light roasted malts with a touch of hop spice.

The taste consisted of smooth roasted malts, maybe a touch of black malt and a springy hop spice.

The mouthfeel was creamy and smooth.

Overall a tasty concoction.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is an amber highlighted, dark brown coloring with a thin, frothy, light tan head that settles into a sparse filmy coating. Nose of roast coffee, light and smooth, with a touch of hoppiness. Flavors are roast initially, both coffee and nut sweetness to follow, with a sharp, bitter hops presence developing quickly at the end of the palate. The hops presence cleans the palate, leaving a slightly resiny but clean aftertaste. The carbonation keeps the body light, and the finish is dry and clean. Very interesting brew, and very dynamic flavors.

Cold 22oz served in tumbler glass. Beer pours a deep, dark red color topped with a nice thick tan head. Giant soda-like bubbles throughout. Smells like a middle of the road amber ale, with a faint whiff of yeast. Flavor combines the amber malt body with relatively aggressive hopping for the style. It's even a tiny bit citrusy. While the flavor in the front of the mouth is not particularly sweet, bitterness really comes through in the middle. I'd say the stout portion is a little bit Earthy, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it smokey. Drinkable but forgetable.

Pours a two-finger khaki head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Nice deep ruby color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is pine hops, flavor is mellow pine hops more like a pale ale than a stout. Moderate bitter finish. $6.35 for a 22oz bottle from Bert's Better Beers Hooksett, NH
