355ml bottle served in a mug.
A: Pours a dark amber to brown clear color (nutty color) forming a medium yellow aired head which dissipates quickly. Only few lacings left
S: Smoked malts. Toffee, caramel, caramel malts. Bready yeasts
T: Follows the nose. Sweet upfront. Toffee, caramel, caramel malts. Biscuity. A bit tart. The roasted malts bitterness is really considerable and pleasant
M: Medium body. A little bit molasses. Good carbonation. Sweet upfront and mild roasted bitter aftertaste
O: Good drinkability. Excellent Eisenbahn specimen. Very tasty and pleasant

Appearance: Hazy amber-brown, ok head.
Smell: Smoky meats, not too strong.
Taste: Moderate smoked meat flavor backed with bready malt base.
Drinkability: I could have a few of these since the smoke is not overpowering.
A single I picked up since I liked the weizenbock I tried from this brewery and smoked beers are interesting. This is a pretty decent smoked beer/rauch. Not overpowering in the smokiness, but gives a nice smoked sausage flavor. Worth a shot.

12 oz bottle poured into tulip glass
A: Very nice dark caramel color with ruby accents, but also a lot of visible sediment. I'd be more put off by that if the color wasn't as attractive as it is. Head disappears quickly, leaving a thin cream-colored ring around the brew.
S: First things first, the smokiness of this beer emerged as soon as I started pouring, which is a great sign for me and my terrible sense of smell. On closer inspection, I smell the expected smoke - like in your peatier single-malts - but also pungent hops. Smells almost like a smoked double IPA.
T: tastes like it smells, really - smoky at first, but then the bitterness kicks in...but then there's that peaty smoke again. The only thing I don't like is that the smoke makes the character of the hops hard to pick up, past the general bitterness.
M: good. Effervescent to start, and once the smoke comes out in the taste, it coats my tongue and top of my mouth very well.
D: it's rauchbier, so I'm not drinking one of these every day - or two in a sitting - but for all that it's pretty smooth going down. I think the conditioning aids the drinkability a lot: this beer's crisp enough to refresh the palate from sip to sip.
O: I bought this in a mix-a-six because my daughter liked the picture of the train on the label. Glad she did. I didn't pay attention to the cost of the bottle or of a six-pack, so I don't know if it was worth what I spent, but I think so. I think this is going to be the Thanksgiving-dinner six-pack this year.

The Eisenbahn Rauchbier was available a Figiera Restaurant in Sao Paulo. I tried this beer after the Pale Ale. The Rauch or smoke beer was ok. The appearance was a rich clear amber and a decent white head was present. The scent was somewhat smokey, but not dominate. The taste was decent, malt and grain present with tinges of roast/smoke. The mouthfeel was slightly downgraded because Alcohol was definitely present. Overall a decent beer and worth a try.

Thanks to my brother for sharing this beer. Always excited to try new smoke beers.
Batch 04.
The beer pours an amber color with an off-white head. The aroma is very nice. I get a lot of toffee malt with some smoke mixed in. The smoke is present, but far from overwhelming.
The flavor is very similar. The first and main flavor that I get is a meaty smoke, but there is also a strong caramel and toffee malt backbone. As the beer warms I start to get some dark fruit notes that mix very well with the other components. Very easy to drink.
Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Mine's called 'Defumada' Smoked Lager, with a depiction of an old train engine barreling through a tropical jungle. Oddly enough, it's also called 'Malt Liquor' on the label...
This beer pours a hazy, cloudy dark amber colour, with one finger of fast-disappearing soapy beige head, which leaves some very sparse lace in its wake. Its smells of light smoked wood, grainy malt, deli scraps, and mild grassy hops. The taste is smoked, woody grain, a bit of caramel, savory charred flesh, and floral, weedy, practically refreshing, hops. The carbonation is quite sedate, the body medium-heavy in weight, and smooth, in that campfire-tinged mountain air kind of way. It finishes with still a fair bit going on - caramel sweetness, latent meaty smoke, and light, ethereal, meadowy hops.
A nice, solid, surprisingly clean offering, with more of a tendency towards a visceral, subtle meatiness, than sinus (or palate) searing smoke.

Defumada!
An old favorite style since the great success of our homebrewed Mentholated Laser Jaw.
Clear, amber, low carbonation. Moderately smoky aroma, sweet malts. The smokiness lingers but isn't punishing. A refreshing and delightful experience. Stays sweet until the smoke begins to dominate towards the end.
An interesting mix of sweetness and smokiness. Definitely got smokier as the glass warmed, or, alternatively, as more smoked malt in liquid alcohol form was drank (a cumulative effect, as it were).
A nice beer, would surely try again.

Pours a clear, rust color. 1/2 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and slight lacing. Smells of smoke, sweet malt, slight roasted malt, and a hint of grain. Fits the style of rauchbier. Mouth feel is smooth and clean with an average carbonation level. Tastes of smoke, sweet malt, slight roasted malt, slight earthy malt, hint of grain, and a hint of hops. Overall, a lot better then the Dourada. Good mouth feel and blend.

Source/serving: 12oz bottle.
Source/Serving: Slightly charred sweet potato, freshly toasted caramel, lightly burnt apple pie. An ash pit the day after the fire. Light almond. Faint smoked ham as it warms. Overall quite sweet and very rich.
Taste: Really full bodied up front...thick and fairly sweet with light campfire smoke in the background. Syrupy caramel with a tinge of apple and pear cider. Fields of grass come to mind as it warms. The middle is juicy apple cider - lots of ripe tree fruit actually. Some sweet potato. Fairly clean at first which transcends into moderately heavy smoke on the way to the finish. Finish is very sweet potato.... And tastes remarkably true to the vegetable especially as it lingers. A smoky edge gives a lightly charred character. A slight mineral, almost rust, note.
Overall: Sweet, rich malts and caramel very nicely balance the moderate smoke in this which creates decent complexity and interest. For a smoke beer, especially one as sweet as this one, this is highly drinkable and enjoyable.

Pours a bronze colour, quite clear with minimal head, sinks to a thin ring of off-white bubbles. Leaves some unimpressive lace. Hmmmm... not very impressed, a bit blah.
Nose is quite amber-malty with some dark characters as well and hints of currants and cherry, then emerges this slight dark wood smoke, a lot of smouldered oaky notes, with a hint of cola lurking behind. Slightly subdued smoke-wise, but not bad, has a bit too much sweetness though.
Taste is sadly a let-down, very malty and sweet with brown sugar and some weak citric notes, then gets a slight smokey flavour at the back but dominated by a medicinal overtone and the smoke comes through as more of an afterthought. It may well just be diminished from being old though, it does retain a shadow of its woody, smokey past but it's a pale imitation of what it could be and what other Rauchs are.
Thin and untextured mostly, a bit syrupy as it goes down, actually quite unpleasant texture.
Fairly unimpressed with this but will happily give this a second chance with a fresh bottle if anyone from Oz wants to import another batch.

Pours a clear amber colour, looking rather flat and limp, with a mildly filmy, fine-bubbled white head. Some lacing in nice curtains as the glass empties.
Light sweetness on the nose, with a very subdued but definitely noticeable smoke character. Very much merely a slight woodsmoke note; none of the big smoked meat characters. Even a little pine resin creeping in. Not bad though.
I do like the fact that there is a very noticeable smoky character on the palate. Round enough on the front, and not very full-bodied, which is rather suitable, before a smoky-sweet flavour permeates and stays till the end. It's again rather muted, but I love the effective smoke here.
Mouthfeel is thin, which again, is perhaps suited to the style, but it feels a little disappointing.
Gets slightly cloying after a while, with the sweetness raising its head once too often. It doesn't strike me as a particularly good rauch, but it has its moments.

Rusty amber with a quarter-inch, creamy off-white head that remains.
Smell is smokey malts and very faint hops. Some very faint sausage and caramel as well.
Taste is again smoked malts, with some sausage being a little more present than on the nose. Hints of barbeque as well. Finish is slightly malty.
Mouthfeel is mildly crisp, with a little bite halfway through. A bit watery overall.
Drinkability is very good. This is a nice one to have when you'd like a little smoke, but not too much.

12 oz twist off "Defumada" bottle.
Pours a red amber with a 1 centimeter white head that dissipates rather quickly.
The smoke scent is incredibly subtle with dark malts in the forefront.
The taste is rauchbier mixed with doppelbock and it works really well. It has hints of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. All of it is well balanced.
It is a pretty good rauchbier.
