22oz into tulip
A- Its dark-brown, most definitely not black, with a clean tan head which dissipates at a moderate rate
S- Alcohol sitting on-top of a roasted malt body. Almost toasty vanilla with oak, i guess theres a bit of chocolate and coffee, but not what dominates it for me
T- A mocha with vanilla syrup. Reminds me of the brown oat bread you get at some steakhouses (even Outback...) with butter. Smooth, roasty and yeasty.
M- It's just fine; the liquid wants to be syrupy but the millions of bubbles won't let it
It's a good beer, one I would drink again if it was poured for me. Not one I would go out of my way to order or buy, unless it was on sale. Not bad by any means, but really doesn't hit my "world-class" mark.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a dark brown color, with a thin beige head that fades quickly and leaves a thick and spotty lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, some dark fruit and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out with a hearty roasted malt character followed by mildly sweet flavors of coffee and chocolate. The hops presence is mild but brings a decent balance. The after-taste consists of a dark chocolate mild bitter-sweetness.
M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, strong kick, good representation of style, it’s a solid stout to drink for a while but there are better alternatives within the style.

Quick tasting after work.
Dark brownish-black color with a thin head that lasts longer than expected.
Smell gives a lot of roasted, almost burnt, coffee and chocolate.
Taste starts sweet, faint molasses, turns burnt grains and malt. Undesirable.
I thought it was more black ale versus stout. Thin to light-medium body with decent carbonation.
I would try one more, as I thought it was a bad batch. Glad I split one beer with two other people.

After working, sitting on the porch and now cleaning, I decided I needed a big ole mama-chicken stout. Here it is. Let's see...
Well, pours black yet not "thick". Off tannish head almost reminds me of the famous Yeti pour...but it isn't, and that becomes apparent quickly. But, to dismiss this beer b/c it doesn't look like Yeti would be stoopid. Looks good, a bit oily lacing
Rich roasty aromas. Coffee and burnt toast come up front. Raisin and dark plum next. And a deep inhale gets at the chocolate and caramels
Roasty flavors, too, although not as deep or rich. Molasses comes and goes right off the bat. The raisin and plum turn to prune and baked caramel. Dark chocolate is faint and gives it a bit of dryness. Tiny hint of leather.
drinks well for 8+

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.
Appearance: Pours pitch black with a moderate amount of bubbles. About two fingers of tan head that slowly fade into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.
Smell: A rich and very roasty aroma with lots of chocolate and coffee hints. Dark roasted barley malts upfront with good hints of dark chocolate, coffee roast, toast, cookie dough, burnt caramel, toffee, grains, biscuit, yeast, and nut. Hints of sweet molasses and some anise licorice spicing. Subtle hints of dark fruit raisin, plum, and prune juice. Subtle hints of earthy hops in the background. A very roast and chocolate forward smell.
Taste: Follows the nose with a rich and roasty taste driven by chocolate and coffee notes. Sweet dark roasted malts upfront with tasting notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, toasted bread, dough, cream, grain, caramel, toffee, yeast, and nuts. Sweet notes of molasses. Some noticeable notes of anise spice giving a slight dark licorice flavor. Subtle dark fruit presence with undertones of prune, plum, and raisin. Light notes of earthy hops towards the finish. A pretty solid roasty stout taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very creamy and smooth. Fairly chewy and slick. A little alcohol heat is felt.
Overall: A pretty solid stout. More like an imperial stout with a pretty rich and roasty profile.

A - Pours black and doesn't seem thick. Creamy tan head that lingers around.
S - Roasted malts, a faint smell of licorice and along with expresso & semi-sweet chocolate.
T - Roasted malt dominates with every other flavor playing backups. Some notables are coffee, creamy chocolate and lingering dark fruits.
M - Light bodied with high carbonation. Has a dry finish and nothing in cloying about it.
O - It's a good middle of the road stout. Nothing fancy here.
