A: The beer is hazy amber brown in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high light beige head that gradually died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles on the surface, a collar around the edge, and lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of sweet caramel malts and fruity yeast are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the overall taste is rather malty with flavors of caramel and toasted malts, bits of sweetness and notes of fruity yeast.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate to high amount of carbonation.
O: This beer tastes like a maltier version of a bière de garde and is relatively easy to drink.

Beer bottle (75 cl.), Bières & Chopes tasting session nov. 3 2012.
Appearance : amber brown color, with white foamy head.
Smell : slightly roasted caramel aromas.
Taste & mouthfeel : light toasted malty with beautiful fruity flavours.
Drinkability : a good beer in the French style "Bière de garde".

Sampled on tap 7/16/2012 at the Blind Tiger Ale House, NYC.
Reddish amber in color; malty but only slightly sweet on the finish; reminds me of a stripped-down Unibroue Maudite. Surprised to learn that the abv was over 7%.
Overall, I’d say the draft version is just average, but I’ll reserve final judgment for when I try the bottled version.

A-Sold in 75 & 33 cL bottles. I opted for the big 'un, equipped w/the standard cap and one of those pop-top sealers if you aren't sharing and want to save some for breakfast. Pours a clear but dark reddish-amber with beige head, okay retention.
S-Almonds, nice toasty malt backbone, bits of red apple, tea, herbs and spices.
T-Same as aroma, slightly sweeter than I expected. A good drink throughout that would benefit from a touch more hops. The aftertaste is a bit like my mom's sun tea...light and just a touch of sweetness. The toasted malt is good, since oatmeal is on the list of ingredients, I imagine that is where the extra sweetness comes from.
M-Medium-bodied, and an interesting mouthfeel with the wheat and oatmeal in addition to malt. Moderate carbonation that could be amped up just a tad IMHO. Slight alcohol warmth. I scored this down a bit thinking that the addition of hops would provide for a more balanced drink...the sweetness is good, but a bit more hops could make for a great beer.
D-Damn fine beer that I will buy again. It's a combination of a red ale and barleywine with wheat. Goes down smoothly and easily.
